Dacia Jogger - cheap 7 seater or bad value?

    THe Dacia Sandero came 13th in 2024 sales, that's not too shabby to be honest considering the QASHQAI came 16th and the T-Roc 15th.

    The Jogger came 62nd the id3 came 60th and the Enyaq came 65th.

    Interestingly there's only 1 VW, the Tiguan that came in the top ten at 6th which is surprising considering the cheapest one is 51.2 K on the road.

    The local sales man said it's hard to keep the jogger in stock so judging by the sales numbers I'd assume there could be a supply issue.

    Oh actually beside the jogger sales it shows a -45% sales decrease for 2024 but many models are similar if not worse.

    Enyak - 57.4

    Interesting a small car like the Fabia is + 43%

    ID4 -48%

    Octavia +75% seems like people might be going back to hatchbacks ?

    Duster - 22%

    Model y -42.3%

    Kuga -21%

    Interesting , the Sandero was Europe's best selling car in 2024, the Clio 2nd Golf 3rd place, I would have assumed SUV/Crossovers would have been the top selling but thankfully not.

    I'm finding it hard to find where the Jogger sits, not even chatgpt can help me lol.

    While I was looking for a spin in the Jogger, I had a look at the Sandero, it's pretty decent inside to be honest but I don't get why they didn't have a proper layout for the radio instead of a hole for a phone on the dash for the basic version, that bugs me because the basic version would be all the kit I need in a car.

    Cars in general are far too over powered now in Europe, due to the refinement of many cars today many people refuse to obey the speed limits because they feel as if they're not moving at 80-100 Km/h and why the 50 Km/h limit is mostly ignored, because people have no clue how fast they're actually going or how fast they're getting there these days in much heavier cars than back in the 00s especially EV with their sheer weight and instant torque, people of all powertrains speeding on roads not fit for 50 Km/h all around where I live and it's unacceptable and it's all ages, Male and Female.

    It's only when I got on a motorbike last year for the first time did I realise how fast 80 Km/h actually is.

    I never spotted in simi data jogger sales down 45% but that's the case with a good few models,

    Well, I was persuaded to actually look at one and take a test drive. Now I was looking at the hybrid 1.6 litre one with a few goodies like rear view camera, and auto box.

    Now climbing into the rear two seats was a challenge, and they do take nearly the whole boot when deployed, and half of it when folded away. So you can forget getting furniture from Ikea.

    Driving the car was good with steering as it should be. Engine power was OK, but test was limited a bit. I would need it for a week to be fully satisfied, but it is certainly a maybe.

    I think €33 k with 3 year hp with 0% interest, and 50% deposit or trade in. Did not pay much attention because did not expect to like it.

    I'm still waiting on a test drive from the Carlow dealer. I don't know if I'll get to bring her on the M9, might do Dacia dealer to M9 Heading for Castledermot then at the M9 Junction head south For Tinryland and back in the Enniscorthy/Carlow road back to town. That would be a decent spin. Kind of sorry I didn't take the rental Jogger the Brother had when he was here.

    The hybrid has a 1.6l engine as well as the electric one. The 1.0l engine is quite underpowered I would think, and that is quite a difference.

    There was a touch of the 'slam' rather than the 'clunk' when closing the door, but apart from that did not look cheap. The screen does look like an after-thought though. There is a strong upselling element too.

    I'm driving a 1.0L 3 cyl 120 Hp car now, granted it's smaller and lighter but I actually enjoy it a lot, it's not fast either but fast enough for a family hatch, it's got decent torque once the turbo spools up but I'd rather a 1.8l petrol without a turbo and lag, but that's the way it is now. It did surprise me how the little 1.0l is able to pull me up decent size hills without much fuss.

    Mazda still make very good petrols, but they're expensive.

    Not sure I'd pay 5,500 more for the hybrid to be honest and it's got that absolutely horrible CVT box and CVT are bad enough at the best of times but the experience is even worse with lower powered engines, the hybrid setup isn't that powerful @145 Hp , if there was a sort of fixed gear ratio setup it might not be so bad like the last generation Audi Multitronics before they went Dual Clutch, not sure that would be possible with a Hybrid with the leccy motor in the mix.

    Kawasaki make a hybrod motorcycle and it has proper manual gearbox too giving a more normal riding experience, even with the electric motor, you still get manual gears in EV mode.

    The RRP of the basic Jogger is 26,090 and the Hybrid is 31,600, not a hope in hell I'd pay that much extra for the Hybrid, for what ? 30 odd more Hp and a crappy CVT ? no way !

    I'm actually looking forward to the test drive now.

    I drove far slower yokes in my day, diesel vans that could hardly get above 100 Km/h with roof rack and ladders and took maybe 20 seconds to get to 55 Mph ffs, lol. and the older I get I couldn't care less about power and 0-100 times. Now-a-days I just want cheap A to B transport.

    Have a Jogger for the past 2 years, 1 litre engine. Engine is fine - often drive it on Eco mode, on full power its pokey. Remember the car is 1200kg so light. Have driven it fully loaded with 4 bikes on the roof.

    We needed a car that could fit 3 car seats across the middle, most of the others can't outside of the 5008. They were 50k new, or 35k for a 4 year old. The jogger was 28k with a 5 year warranty. Given previous history with car reliability this was a deal maker for me.

    Its got everything you need, and unlike previous Dacia's (which I've test driven) doesn't feel too basic - climate control, sensors front and back, wired apple CarPlay. It's bright and airy inside which is nice. It could do with some more sound insulation. On the discussion of value dropping, if I paid 50k, after 5 years I'd be lucky to get 28k as a trade in. I reckon the jogger won't drop that much.

    Thanks for the info, didn't know it was that light, should make a difference alright, My Kia Cee'd 1.0l is 1300 Kg I think strange that the Jogger is a bit lighter.

    Thanks for confirming, yeah I had a good idea the engine in the Jogger would be fine considering I drive a 1.0L Turbo, it has 8 more Hp so not going to make much of a difference, these little 1.0L Turbo engines have a decent amount of torque.

    All the kit I need at the end of the day is AC, Electric windows and mirrors and rear parking sensors. Don't want or need anything else. It's a car at the end of the day.

    Did you buy the Dacia in the end OP ?

    I'm looking to do something similar.

    The 161 Citroen Grand C4 is getting to the stage where we are wondering if putting more money into it is the best option.

    Even though I've good credit I don't want a big long loan or get into any PCP infinite loop.

    Plus to us a car is a car, don't care for styling or the look and feel, as long as it can do what it's supposed to do.

    So we are looking at trading the C4 for a Jogger 2022 and later.

    Is it a good idea?

    No, I did not change my car, but I know someone who bought the Jogger hybrid and is very happy with it. Went for PCP with 0% interest but 50% deposit. Sold their old car privately at a good price(a lot more than the dealer was offering) so is happy out. Only had it a few weeks though.

    I think it is a good car and looks smart and - most important - has 7 seats. Now it has rear view camera and is quite well equipped.

    I think €35 k is a lot, but it is as cheap a 7 seater on the market new, and three or more year older before the competition is cheaper.

    If I was determined to buy, I would look at the Tiguan Allspace or the Skoda Karoq or the Seat Terraco but they hide the prices too well, and their are not many 2nd hand. Also, I do not like the VW marketing approach very much.

    €50 grand is too much, so will stick with the Tiguan I have for the moment. €15 grand is a lot to find to better the Dacia Jogger.

    The raised edge rubber mats look great in the Jogger and should help a lot to keep the floor clean. Not sure if every trim comes with them but well worth it.
