Today is day 4 for me, temp isn’t as high, taste is back to normal (tea tasted dreadful for the last 3 days) still low energy and feeling tired although not as bad. Only thing worse is the cough.

Have it now , started coughing Christmas day evening, was in bed most of the day yesterday no energy at all, didn't eat just panadol and cough syrup and plenty of water.

Out of bed this morning abit more energy alot less coughing will try some tea and toast.

I did find the cough painful on the chest.

Exact same for me. I always work back about 3 days from when symptoms first appeared to try work out where I picked it up. Could have been anywhere. Picking up the turkey, Christmas shopping, afternoon Sunday pints.

I’ve had the worst cold I’ve ever had in years for the past 10 days. Definitely not flu but coughing until I nearly threw up. No energy and it’s still hanging in there.
I haven’t had a flu Jab since 1988 when I was so ill after it I wanted someone to put me out of my misery. It was the same with the Covid vaccine but I couldn’t avoid those in all honesty.

Really bad over xmas, Bad dose not had one like this in years. Feel like one giant muscle pain death warmed up feeling even though temp is normal. May think about going doctor if it lasts another say 1-2 weeks as prob just pick up something else while in there. Still cant believe were talking about covid. It's like we forgot about the flu and must be something else.

Did you test for covid,? A few in the neighbourhood are sick at minute, nobody testing at all

Really bad wheezing with my flu. Like having a squeaky gate in my chest when trying to sleep. Very annoying more than anything else.

Covid isnt really circulating at the moment. It’s all flu and RSV. Flu has a very short incubation period so if you catch it you can develop symptoms within 12 hours.

We had something in week before Christmas. Kids had temperatures for three days. Adults just had sore throats muscles aches and fatigue. Might have been flu or something else. We are all vaccinated against flu. We got over that dose quickly whatever it was anyway.

I’ve had one awful dose of flu ten years ago. Don’t take any chances now and get the jab every year.

By the way walking pneumonia is another illness entirely - caused by mycoplasma. Had that this year too!

A few around me are sick enough, nobody testing for covid, my sister was telling me there about 5 people near her though have tested positive for it. I'm planning on doing a test for the children tomorrow

Yea there's different things going around, definitely covid too though,. Don't think its any harm doing a test

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,150 ✭✭✭jackboy

What's the point of doing a test though? No matter what it is you need to ride it out.

I actually wouldn’t mind getting those tests that can detect flu or RSV as well as Covid I’d love to know if it was flu we had. I really really do not want to get a bad dose of it ever again.

I'd like to know. Alot of people out and about talking about being sick, coughing, etc, maybe if it's covid at times, they'd be more cautious

It is flu season in fairness. COVID was around in the summer and never heard anything about everyone suffering.

Had both jabs anyway so pretty sure it's the lurgy.

Why though ? Covid is old news just another thing in life now. There are no lockdowns coming back. Sure the gov band covid masks in certain settings. Go the doctor if you feel you must to or ride it out like most have done before the big covid experiment. You would not have much of a life worrying about others health thats a them problem not you. it's a really odd throw back people seeming to think they have some kind of right not to exposed to normal life and demand a bubble.

My sister went back stateside with COVID, my mum ended up in GP ten very sick days later, COVID negative, GP said 7 strains of flu at the moment, none covered with jab, it's a wicked wicked dose she got, worse than COVID.

have it a week today.started off freezing on my left hand and right foot.morning after absolutely floored.45 yrs old feeling like in my 80’s.the soreness for a few days unreal and especially when coughing trying to get up stuff in chest.

Did anyone use a mask at all?

I had to go out to the shop and thought about using one but remembered the time I was laughed at for doing that.(when Covid was over)

I used one at home as soon as this thing came on but it didn't stop the spread and as I get better now others are leaning into it.

Yeah the word "flu" seems to be seen as a generic term for bad respiratory infection. The 'flu - actual influenza - is crazy though, you can barely walk with it. There are some utterly miserable colds, which no doubt could develop into severe infections if neglected, but the 'flu is different. Another dimension.

I have a head cold since Christmas Eve but it's thankfully mild.

I do when I am sick, I had someone cough on my neck in a supermarket, she didn't even apologise, kept coughing, didn't even cover her mouth or stand a bit back, even after Covid, some are just ignorant selfish a××holes

If I have to go out when sick, I'll use a mask, yes you get the looks but I don't want to spread it if I can

Get the leg swelling checked out, could be heart or blood pressure related, I've never heard of leg ankle swelling from flu

There's a fella with a beard, 25ish, works in Downeys Centra Portlaoise. He lets these massive loud coughs and his body shakes. He never makes an attempt to bring his elbow to his mouth, or even the old reflex of covering your face with your hands.

And to make matters worse out of about 15 staff in the shop he's far the most curt and ignorant there. I went into the shop and heard him coughing yesterday, I turned on my heels and headed for Clelands😂

But yeah, some people are desperately ignorant with their germs!

Felt half human today, able to move to the couch for most of the day. Still no appetite mind you. Had a bath there, felt dizzy, temperature back up to 38.4.

Taking the p*ss at this stage.

Two small bowls of milky porridge and two chicken burgers is all I've managed in two days. Had to force them down.

Up and about and out a bit at least.

Hospitalised for 3 days with Influenza A a fortnight ago. Needed a wheelchair to move me a small distance for a chest xray. Would be a fit person. This hospitalisation was preceeded by 4 antibiotics and 3 steroids doses, since 1st November.

Hospital cleared everything up. However, I've a sore throat and fatigue back again and wondering if it's another flu strain.

    This country has gone soft.

Never seen as many snowflakes as over the last week.
