Didn't read the article in the paper this morning about a wife complaining that her husband is boring now because he quit drinking .Is it more of an issue with the man not drinking as opposed to his wife or partner not drinking .

Yeap I gave in last year but my wife still drinks. Lost over 2 stone in weight and feel 10 years younger. I could care less if people think I'm boring now as I'm definitely happier.

Hmm I was just reading the other day that people with low dopamine levels are susceptible to alcohol abuse because alcohol can supply the body with dopamine (with side effects!)

In other words, some people become chemically dependent on alcohol to stimulate and bring out the 'exciting' side of their personality.

So when they give up alcohol, especially in the immediate short term, they might seem particularly flat or dulled. Until they can raise dopamine levels naturally (e.g. former habitual drinkers turned fitness enthusiasts).

I've socialised with couples where the man doesn't drink and others where the woman doesn't.

Never made a bit of difference to me.

As far as I'm concerned if the company is congenial that's all that matters.
