    It's this bit I was commenting on;

no one in Ireland would look at this as anything other than a moronic comedy show..

There's plenty that will believe every bit of his nonsense and it'll be repeated on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 873 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

That was mostly done for the US audience. Mcgregor is still an asset and it's good to keep his profile up.

Going down the right wing direction was definitely planned. It's what gets clicks. I doubt he knows much about politics tbh. He's fairly uneducated and almost certainly brain damaged. Not to mention being a rapist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,263 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

Exactly! It's not like in the U.S where money and social media/TV fame can elevate a hideously unsuitable person to high office..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,225 ✭✭✭✭My name is URL

His idiotic attempt to fool dumb americans into believing that he's been prevented to run for office should be kept well away from this thread about him raping a woman. Just my opinion

I get what you’re saying. Through no fault of posters I guess commentary on McGregors wider life has entered the thread- it’s not unrelated in that his “downfall” can be directly traced back to the incident under original discussion - everything he has done since the trial is in my view, attempting to keep on board public followers and remain an income generating entity. A separate thread won’t stop posters commenting on the trial , mentioning the victim (especially considering there’s an appeal ongoing) as well as whatever he’s doing now. Maybe simply taking the name of the victim off the current thread title would address the issue you’ve highlighted, which in fairness, I agree with.

You are right actually. It's just the idea that so many eyes will be on Irish discussion boards now following the interview. Can't be easy for his victim seeing it

They are the type of people who said on the lead up to the general election that they were the 'silent majority'.

Turns out they were a very loud 1% or something very small.

This interview is for the yanks as they seem to think we are under some kind of strict dictatorship that Mcgregor is exposing. Carlson will interview absolutely anybody with a mental view or story like the fella that claimed to have oral sex with Obama

And so it continues- of course not a word about rape in this interview but of course, plenty on traffic violations and how it’s “a money making racket “

That’s funny McGregor, in that there are well documented cases in America where certain towns who depend on traffic fines to keep their local republican and racist administrations in business, have been known to target out of town ethnic minorities and fleecing them -a bit of an own goal there McGregor, wouldn’t you say? Hmmmmm?

“The garda traffic unit is ‘stressing people out’McGregor, who has several convictions for road traffic offences, claimed the Garda’s traffic unit was a “money racket”.“It is the most successful, and it has caused untold stress on to the people of Ireland,” he said.“I wonder the amount of suicides, the amount of lives lost and families destroyed over the stress of the traffic corps.“Caught driving without tax or, you know, no NCT – it’s all a money racket.”Last year, McGregor was convicted of dangerous driving. He was disqualified from driving for two years, fined €5,000 and given a five-month suspended prison sentence.“

Watched the first 90 seconds. Car crash stuff.

What with the accent he puts on for the Americans. He's a fraud.

After reading what he did to Nikita Hand he should be shunned by the media. They are only using him to earn money and push their agenda through him, and that is his get out of jail card.

I think it's a concern among most but they've seen/shown it's not the all encompassing major issue that McGregor's ilk will try to frame it as but I think we should learn from the UK on it. The rhetoric and populist, simplistic argument was allowed to go unchecked and was dismissed as "far-right nutters and racist's"; the NF then the BNP, Tommy Robinson etc. McGregor's rambling was filled with lies and inaccuracies yet people will lap it up. Plenty get their information from soundbites and short social media videos that are easy to repeat but completely lacking in depth.

Populists used the issue of immigration to bolster their careers but the like of Farage was crafty enough to know extremists like Robinson won't cut it with the electorate; he didn't focus on Islam like Robinson et al but used migration numbers overall whether good/bad. Having a German wife was as convenient as Gareth in the office "I'm not homophobic... Come around, look at my C.D collection. You'll find Queen, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys. They're all bummers." It's a way to power that's been used and abused before and we aren't immune to it.

I'd agree with your "silent majority" (who weren't very silent but continue to tell us they're being silenced) being a self declared 'majority'. It's a dangerous road to be dismissive of this issue; there's nothing racist about wanting some sort of control over immigration. If an electorate with reasonable concerns aren't listened to, unreasonable people will fill the vacuum & the way these people sell the message is dangerously simplistic and easy to swallow.

i am no fan of McGregor. He is a thug, uses bad language and slurs, a convicted rapist, and he used violence and aggression to get where he is.

But…I sat down and watched his interview with Tucker C. McGregor is not the most articulate of speakers but what I will say is he has balls of steel to say in public what so, so many Irish people are thinking.

i am the most unlikely of people to support him or MMA but a lot of what he said made sense.

Ireland is heading down a really negative path and so much needs to change.

I see huge anger boiling under the surface especially in rural Ireland but also dublin has been absolutely ruined and there is fierce anger and a feeling of betrayal for the politicians who have ruined our once great country.

I am not saying he should run for President but with his money he should bankroll a new movement. He personally is not popular but he could support a movement of more polished, well spoken people who can try at least to get us out of this mess.

Of all the populist right-wing bullsh1t that came out of his mouth and leaving aside the many mistruths, what did he actually say that made sense?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,042 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

    Some issues that hit home for me;

The sense of the Irish becoming “second class” citizens in own country.

The huge focus by the politicians on foreign issues like Israel-Palestine and Ukraine. To the extend that Irish society issues are almost an after thought.

it is like the politicians run a mile away from the harder more awkward questions facing OUR country and instead waste time and effort meddling in foreign issues.

People especially in rural Ireland feeling absolutely swamped and over run by non nationals.

However I didn’t like him criticizing the road traffic unit of the guards - felt like a personal rant/gripe and not on same level as the far more concerning issues facing Ireland he mentioned.

I saw a trailer for this on YouTube. Carlson asking McGregor about sorting immigration, and if he would deport Rosie O’Donnell as President ! Jesus wept. Did this guy not do any basic research into the Irish Presidency ? McGregor coming across as a moronic ape as usual - actually, scrub the ape part, that’s unfair to an intelligent creature.

If those are the issues that are hitting home for you then you really need to inform yourself on current affairs from more reliable sources!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,042 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

I’m very well informed thanks. You can sneer and belittle all you like, just be aware that McGregor said what a huge amount of Irish people have been thinking.

And that’s coming from an Irish Times reading liberal who has little time for him, as I said in my initial post.

That's crazy and personal stuff for CMcG re his jibe at Roads Policing here. If he thinks Irish roads policing is heavy handed, he should try his style of driving in the USA. He/Irish drivers would not get away with most of the common traffic offences that go undetected or ignored by AGS every hour/ every day.

he has balls of steel to say in public what so, so many Irish people are thinking.

It doesn't take balls of steel to spout populist nonsense and tell outlandish lies in a planned soft ball "interview" with no one challenging him. How you could think that embodies bravery is baffling, he made the right noises so you're willing to forgive the more serious lies of his moronic ramblings.

The utter lies he told and the need to bring the Garda Traffic Corp in to it should be enough to show this useful idiots stage managed opinion piece for what it was; simple populist vanity.

I must be living in a different country.

I'm seeing none of these issues. Rural areas overrun. Give me a break.

I don't read social media. Maybe that's the reason for not seeing it?

The biggest scumbags in the country from my experience is good ol born and bred Irish.

Remember who is pushing this stuff. A coke head, brain damaged, old man beating, rapist.

A lot of people falling for that rhetoric nonsense. People should get off social media and get exercising. Social media is way too negative. A lot of people are waking up to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,042 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

You talk about real life vs social media.

The local GAA club WhatsApp group the response was overwhelming to paraphrase “don’t like McGregor but he is on to something - he is saying what people are thinking.”

    Mod Edit: Warned for trolling

I've had more sensible and eloquent discussions on the subjects McGregor spoke about with a Taxi driver, at least they're just making conversation.. Instead you have a "celebrity" spouting off a slurred jumble of populist lies, misinformation and disinformation just to make money and boost his popularity in the media.. If a coked up rapist multi-millionaire with a string of convictions speaks to your values… well there's nothing more to be said to that!

Just ignoring McGregor for a minute, how can anyone watch Tucker Carlson in this video and come away not knowing he's the fakest gobshite there can be in media. Fake and all as he is, he's an intelligent man and there's no doubt in my mind he thinks McGregor is a complete moron but he's putting on a fake show for his audience demographic.

This guy who is a convicted rapist and assaulted an old man in Ireland claims people coming into this country are a danger to the Irish public’s safety.

Does he even realize it’s him who is actually the danger!???

    That problem isn't Nikita Hand.

The problem is you and the far right racists that you associate within the GAA.
