Here since maybe 2006 under various names.

I joined to read the R&R stories. Nearly wet myself laughing at some of them.

"My roommate is a filth wizard, friend only to the pig and rat"

Just checked on that forum. Last post was 5 months ago. The decline of boards.ie is sad to witness

Here's a link to the most famous thread for anyone with access

I was voted poster of the year on R&R a few years back. Pinnacle of my Boards career. It's also nice to know that while I clearly have rage issues, I at least manage to be somewhat funny about them. Or used to , anyway...

Here since 2001, always under my own name. I have a principle that I don't post anything that I wouldn't want to be associated with in the real world, so I didn't have to use an alias.

I also joined to take part in the Phantom FM thread. I was on the station at the time and for a long time I mainly posted in that thread and some associated radio and general media threads/topics. As I got older, I diversified into political comments/rants and I also now enjoy the various nostalgia threads (another factor of getting older). Another aspect of growing older is realising that things change, people change, habits change …. and sometimes that is hard to accept.

Boards is much quieter these days and it saddens me to see how quiet the radio thread is, in particular. It was as aspect that was very important to me at one time and it was an interest that was shared by many others. We were early adopters of internet tech at Phantom and we used boards to communicate directly with our radio audience, particularly at times when the station was off air, for various reasons.

I lurk more than I post these days, but boards is still a regular aspect of my online activity and it is still useful for advice on specific topics …. once you ignore the messers and trolls. It may be a case of rose coloured glasses, but I think there was a stronger community spirit online in the golden olden days.

Its one of the reasons I was reluctant to re reg but attracting odd ball comments was putting me off more and my more.

Social medial isn't helpful for some.

Feline Groovy, though, not so much.

When the mind works well I try to remember passwords and account numbers, I thought I had forgotten my boards password but then I had a good day and here I am.

I do remember some very good posters from way back, I think the 'community' has gone from boards with years, it's just a messaging service now, just my opinion though.

Joined in 2010 when I came across the site by chance.

I think some people take this place way too seriously, for me it's just somewhere to pass an hour or so with strangers who more often than not disagree with everything i say when there is nothing on the tele.

Remembering posters from years ago is impressive, some of you seem to have a memory like Jimmy McGee

I got to know quite a few in real life. Not in contact with most of them now, but still a small few.

joined in ‘06. In the job I was in I had been landed on nights, which had a third of the work of the day lads which meant a level of downtime, id go back after break and there be about 3 hours work and 1 hour of nothing to do.

Was just me & a lad who was eccentric 50ish & unsociable. I like sports, gaming, traveling, him..online strategy games / geek stuff..retreated to my own world online, boards was part of.

In doing a bit of traveling for the job it was good to dip into boards at airports, hotels etc, a distraction, only so much news & sports…boards was a boredom killer as it’s interactive. been handy on a lengthy hospital stay, recovery at home & during bouts of insomnia 😵‍💫

My hobbies, fitness 🏃, travelling ❤️🧳, sports ⚽️ (soccer, cricket, snooker, Gaelic football…), music 🎸 ( playing, listening, discovering and going to gigs ) eating out… Never had another boards account…

Some great posters you mentioned there Feline Groovy, at least one who is still around but he doesnt post as much.

I've had a few different handles here, was ******* for a while never fully banned but attracted too much mod attention so i recycled every so often to keep it fresh. Still get mod attention but am clearly a very slow but steady learner.

I always thought you were a very cool poster in the Dudess days, - not afraid to take the unpopular side of something or call out bullsh1t - long before that was over-popular.

Funny one, I actually thought recently that Leg End Reject sic* might be a reincarnation of Dudess..

Did you stay on or visit as a guest through the years or just come back recently?

I too made real life friends here, mostly through those awesome boards beers in Dublin around 2007 to 2011 when I lurked around that place.

And believe it or not a few 'roides' too. :-)

Ah - the good old days.

I hope no former conquest sees this - better delete the previous handles.... there - that's better.

    Anyway, welcome back.

Had one previous, short-lived, account. It was purely to find some info on a guitar I was thinking about buying. Probably around 2006/7/8-ish. One poster was of great help and even took the time to send me a few PMs with info I was after. To my shame, I cannot remember his username.

Just this account since, which was opened whenever it says under my avatar.

As someone who had similar past identities the boards beers in the late '00s were a great spot. Additionally the motors forums meets in the early to mid '10s. The forum has lost pretty much all of that now.

Joined in 2009, Feline Groovy (Dudess) did you use to work in a sweet shop, I'm sure I remember your rants in R&R in Those Little Things thread about dealing with customers.
