standard for indoor venues is doors 7, support 8 and headline act 9 with 11pm curfew.
For summer outdoor shows it’s slightly rearranged with 22:30 curfew for most outdoor shows so it’s 8:30-9pm for headline act with a truncated festival tight 75-90 mins set

Malahide is outdoors so 9:10 would be a bit late based on your info. Then again calculating back 90 minutes from 10:45 it adds up. Or subtracts in this case. Still a bit stupid to say doors open at 4pm and show starts at 5pm. Unless it's a scheme to sell more food and drink because people are in the venue for longer…

I don't remember the exact times Hozier and Snow Patrol started. I can see on my Google timeline that I was out the door at 22:07 after the Hozier concert (December 2023) and 22:43 after the Snow Patrol concert (February 2025). I think both were 2 hours or close enough, so Snow Patrol was a bit later than I would have expected as well.

3Arena is completely different than the likes of Marlay Park and Malahide. I have no idea why people bring young kids to those outdoor gigs. I was at Olivia Rodrigo last week with my teenage daughter. That was grand. She could at least stand up by herself, go to the bathroom, queue for food etc. There were some people around us with kids that were 7 or 8 years old. Parents had to lift them up cause they were tired. Bring them to the bathroom every half hour. In and out getting food. And then many left early cause the kids were tired, with the Dads carrying the kids out who were asleep in their arms. There weren't too many kids who were asleep, but I saw enough to think that if the parents had to re-live the experience, I'd say many would have hesitated in repeating the experience.

In 3Areana, can obviously get seating tickets, if bringing kids. And the luas is about 20 second walk from the venue.

In terms of the times that you initially mentioned, most gigs are at around 9 now. A good value one would be from 9 to 11. Some artists delay in coming on, and could be 9.15, and generally play for 90/100 mins (unless you're Nicky Minaj or CharliXcX - who have their own rules 😀).

Our children loved it! Especially one of them, the other one wanted to leave after a few songs. On the way to the car when we came past a portaloo she said she needed to go to the toilet. And after that she said that's why she wanted to leave. Right, and we had been sitting somewhere the whole time with the toilets right behind us… 🤣

I agree that we're second guessing the decision to bring the children along. Like I said we misjudged the starting time.

3Arena wouldn't have been great either, to say the least, because our children can't sit still for more than 0.3 seconds.

Ok. You have more patience than me. 😀 My wife made me leave before an encore at a U2 gig (2 of my favourite songs were in the encore), because she got a call that one of the kids woke up and felt unwell. That was about 12 years ago, and she hasn't been asked along to a gig by me since. And won't be.
