As in my original post to Flaneur

. did you read it ?

But in general, not THAT post .

It seems like a couple of users might have a small grievance but the thread has just been overrun with others just looking to “put the boot in” to the mods, and admins, and take “potshots” at, more, normal users.

I don’t know how much more the link dump “issue” can be explained. Put a couple of lines in, either saying what’s in it. You can say what you, the link provider, think of it as well, if you’d like.

If I’m mistaken, then I’m open to correction from the powers that be.

I would have replied to such a post with aplomb in the past- sadly considering boards.ie has lost its sense of humour, I dare not for fear of the wrath of the mods 🤪

It makes sense to me ..then I read about your post and as I said 'harsh ' .

I don't think this is going to get any clearer without a mod saying " This is precisely what is allowed / not allowed" which is what some of us asked for specifically in the following up thread after the new CA rules.

Not much point having unappealable bans if people are unsure what gets them banned/ or is within the rules.

It appears that if you skate close the edge on some threads you may be in trouble , on others not so .

This is where the lack of dispute resolution bites .

I suggested “examples” a few pages back, on what’s acceptable and what’s not - I even gave one - post was ignored / what more can one do!

Emmet, what's your opinion on this then?

No one's putting the boot in. We're pointing out that there's issues with administration and moderation and while one admin says, "you should do X to not get a warning" another is saying, "if you did X you would still get a warning"

    That's patently nonsense, isn't it?

While I have your attention, you should look at your use of language. It does come across as rather antagonistic. "What are you blathering on about", "normal users" etc. Don't take this as backseat modding, (I don't really care for this thread anymore,) but it's for your own benefit. There's far more diplomatic ways to talk to those you don't agree with.

Considering posters use these threads to take pot shots at other posters, I'm not surprised. I don't know why personal abuse is allowed

I think the "powers that be" have you on ignore emmet.

You have to deal with a poster's specific post ..no generalisation allowed ! Your mistake was to believe the rules apply to everyone 😝

No. It's modding on the run .

I don't think it's personal or biased cause it's happening all over .

More mods or rejig threads in CA . Clear up rules or bring back some dispute resolution at an earlier warning .

@Big Bag of Chips @Beasty @ancapailldorcha a question if I may (and please feel free to tell me to go away if I'm overstepping):

Is Odhran (as owner) in contact with any of yous - either directly or through Mike? Does he have any insights on how the site should be run or what direction they would like?

As entertaining as I find these "feedback" threads, I can't help feeling nothing really meaningful comes out of it for all involved. And him coming in once a year to say "points taken" and then closing down the discussion... well I would hardly call that engagement.

Not sure what he achieved by obtaining the site, but right now it feels that he leaves unpaid volunteers hang out to dry and deal with issues - which in turn causes frustration to end users (sometimes understandably, others not so much). If he doesn't care about the site or doesn't make any profit out of it, I would seriously question the existence of it - or at least some parts of it.

Dispute resolution was mostly populated by people who should have been there IMHO- ie they did wrong - I was “successful” in dispute resolution I think twice over the years - I’ve also been in boards prison - it’s paradise you’d love it 😀but in all seriousness I did and probably do like the idea of increasing ban lengths with no appeal - it takes out the bull that goes on -

BUT- if it’s to work, the mods need to get in there first and warn/ban the trouble makers, before the likes of me gets pizzed off with no intervention and hits the nuclear button - I’d say 80-90% of my bans or warnings or zero point errors would be eradicated had mods been around in the first place.

Maybe I need to get olde boards out of my head and concentrate on “new” boards- but it’s not easy- it’s a constantly changing landscape- you report report report and nothing happens - then you lash out and you’re banned and lectured to - feic that!

Like I said, some users have a grievance but you can’t say there’s not a number of users in here just using the thread as a way to “have a go” at the mods.

I appreciate your concern, Flan, I do. I consider you to be one of the better posters on the site. A mod once warned me, when I’d racked up a number of warnings over a short period of time, to adjust my posting style so I did. Since then I’ve still gotten warnings but not nearly as many.

It’s obvious you don’t like that you’ve been warned for something, you feel, is unwarranted but the new rules of CA don’t allow for any “dispute resolution”. Not at that stage anyway. If it were me I’d have made my protests and left it once the mod “wasn’t for turning”.

The mods, and admins, have done everything in their power, bar leaving CA unmoderated, to appease the type of user who frequents that forum and attracts, excessive, attention from the moderators. As a result there’s going to be some “collateral damage”.

@Flaneur OBrien I haven’t seen the post that you are defending but is it not obvious what the mods are saying to you?
You can’t just post a link without adding some context.
You yourself used to give out on the US Election thread when posters left links with no context added. You made a point of refusing to watch a video because the poster didn’t add any context.

Totally agree Oscar . Has happened to a lot of posters

Am in awe of those who say they have never had a ban warning etc! Can't imagine such a luxurious happy state 😶‍🌫️

I suggest you read the thread, and find my posts in it. I'm not getting into it further.

I am in this happy state Goldengirl... by not going in CA at all 🙃🤣😂

I'm sick of reading feedback threads where posters snipe at each other. How is that any sort of relevant feedback? I suggest you all look at your posts and see if you fall foul of "don't be a dick" and "attack the post not the poster".

I'll be going back through this thread in the next few minutes and applying 2 point warnings to any post that breaches the site rules and the feedback charter. If a poster picks up multiple warnings as a result then a siteban is likely.

He did add a comment and the link was clearly in the context of the ongoing discussion. It wasn't just a random post dropped in with a link.

Beasty mods the site purely to get a response like this thread. He feeds off threads like these.

That is toxic modding at its finest.
