I clarified the tax in all subsequent posts. Which you seem to be ignoring. We all know what “cheaper for cash” means.

The paper trail I referred to is about liability. When you have work done “off the books” you often lose that warranty. If your engineer, despite the “cash”, provided a contract that stipulated you were cover by day half a million in insurance, great. But it’s not always the case, hence the warning for others.

How close your final build was to the other design is not relevant to copyright. It is not the construction of the house that infringes, but the act of looking up the plans in order to use them as a starting point. You said that’s what you did, right.

Where did I say you copied construction drawings? Planning drawings and construction drawings are not the same thing.

Just trying to highlight its possible to build much cheaper then using contractors and yes you are right, many pitfalls that you have to be aware of but it should be encouraged for people to self mange builds more.

absolutely. I encourage people to do as much as possible. These forum is pretty much a guide for all those issues. Pointing out potential pitfalls is an import part of that. It’s great that you had no issues, others might not be as lucky.

On tax thing, i genuinely don't know if paying cash saved me money, I never got non cash price of some trades. My main saving was pricing 3 people for each job and getting best price I could.

My house insurance covers me for near 500k now.

If it's copyright infringement to simply look up other planning then yes my mistake I did copyright.

I get that you are pointing out pitfalls which is admiral and I'm showing that self managed builds can also work out much cheaper and built to quality standard.
