Final grand slam of the year.

The men's side is looking like a three-way shootout between the top three ranked players.

Djokovic is coming in on the high of finally winning the Olympic gold medal. Alcaraz has to rebound from the disappointment of 'only' winning silver, whilst Sinner is coming to New York with a cloud hanging over his name.

On the women's side, Pegula is the one coming to New York with the best form, but still rather difficult to see her getting over the line. Gauff seems to have fallen apart somewhat since the Olympics, real work to do if she wants to defend her title. Swiatek is world #1 but has proven to be beatable outside of RG. Sabalenka, meanwhile, looks to have rounded into form at the best time. Osaka is a possible wildcard to win, but will have to get past a very tough opener against Ostapenko.

Let's see how it all plays out!

Alcaraz is my pick for the men's side. Sabalenka is the hot favourite for the women's side, but don't discount Osaka if she can get past Ostapenko.

Ostapenko vs Osaka tomorrow is a potential blockbuster, but it could just as easily turn out to be a complete anti-climax.

The speeding up of the courts should favour the likes of Sabalenka. Have the volume control at the ready …

Yeah you're right, Osaka-Ostapenko will either be a classic or a hot mess with no in between. Hopefully the former though!

Osaka - Ostapenko will follow Collins - Dolehide (who must both have some Irish blood), which has gone to a third set. There was a 17-minute game in the second set.

Need help to watch the US Open. My friend has special needs and is a tennis fanatic. Her tv has broken and she's having a meltdown because she can't watch it. I've tried to log into Sky Sports with her details but it doesn't recognise them either on laptop or mobile. How can I salvage this for her? Is my option a subscription for Now TV for the month for €17 which gives me:

Unlimited TNT Sports & Premier Sports

Can she watch the tennis with this package? I only need a one month sub. Will this work?

The sky sports + for the tennis is very handy. If there was an ability to watch on demand that would help given it’s the US open and that matches will be overnight.

Thanks but can't go down the VPN route in case it stops working on her. She's no good with technology so need a simple solution. I won't be with her when she's watching it and don't need 20 phone calls a day when it doesn't work!

I pity some of the players on the adjoining courts. Fernandez and Potapova are deep in the 3rd set of their match (excellent contest BTW), but the sounds from next door were deafening.

That was some comeback by Evans, fair play to him, he has always been a fighter on the court. Had to laugh at the commentator saying how Evans had to rebuild his career from the ground up a few years and never mentioning why?

I see Raducanu lost to Kenin in 3 sets, I wonder if Raducanu is interested in playing on the tour? She didn't play in any of events leading up to this because she would have to play qualifiers for them which seems a bit arrogant, especially after she missed a year with injury. Just wondering if she would prefer to be at university rather than having to slog it out on the WTA tour.

Going to university for 99% of people not the wonderful life changing experience movies and tv portray it as, its just a glorified version of secondary school.
