Like my accountant described a share of his oap clients ,still holding onto the land, drawing the oap, shares in kerry co op worth millions in the drawer,a super ser in the corner warming the house and expecting everything for nothing!!!

That's the reality behind a share of the moaners about parting with a lousy fiver a month for an excellent service.

I think you are on a different topic here. You might be correct the OAP in Ireland have a lot of wealth, indeed there has been a large shift in wealth from the young to the old over this generation, but it's not connected to paying for a streaming service which should be free when you consider you can stream live content on platforms like youtube or twitch for free.

The other thing to remember is the O in OAP. These are Old people, I know I rather youth to wealth, and you can't bring the money to the grave.

You are now comparing you tube channel to live internet bidding stream which needs engineers on call to service any breakdown or would you prefer cattle left standing bawling waiting for auction ,it is a A1 top drawer service by LSL and it would be a big loss over ole lads bickering about parting with less then the price of a pint every month.

It's live streamed in the some of the nursing homes, as it stimulates conversation and get the brain going, old people aren't just flowers to be watered and put in the window. Most marts were built by people's hard earned cash.

Lsl's problem was probably got too popular for revenue stream, they were originally only getting paid on animals bought through the app, then moving to a mart subscription.

Getting suitably qualified AI lads probably expensive now and glitchs probably showing up with more traffic.

Bear in mind I haven't been at a mart in years and years but In my mind this is a cost of doing business that shoild be bourne by the Mart same as any other overhead. Ultimately it's the business that is benefiting having more eyes on the stock. Whether they are auld lads in a home or active farmers. If I owned a shop I would not be saying only real shoppers can come in and browsers can feck off. They don't charge lads to go into the Mart just to look, so why agree to a charge for just viewing online.

If they want to sell online they should incorporate into their fees. What could it be, a euro per animal on the sellers fee. Most auctions these days have a buyers fee aswell so split the cost between buyers and seller for the convenience. Or maybe an additional buyers fee if the animal is bought online.

Let the software provider, LSL in this case do it's deal with the Mart and let the Mart do its deal with LSL.

lsl just saw all these hits watching and see and opportunity to cash in I don’t believe for 1 minute that they need more money to run there business they managed just fine with a few marts and now they are trying hard in the property space

marts are a cash cow at the moment if running a tight ship just go to shareholders meeting and see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,191 ✭✭✭kk.man

Shareholders don't get any dividends. The only people who benefit from the marts are the management and the dealer's with their allocated times to enter their cattle. This is going to be a hornets nest.

I find that a post full of misery and spite. Who knows what financial position a company or maybe the individual is in? These platforms put on an incredible service immediately when required and saved our livestock asses when covid could have destroyed us and reformed our trade. Why the spite towards success?

They made a really bad call with this tactic and they could pay the ultimate price for such bad judgement, but maybe they took the view that the time was **** ir bust for them.

to me they sound like a clueless bunch . what company would introduce such a sub without firstly consulting with their clients (mainly the marts) they then back tracked and changed proposed subs 3 times in 48 hours when met with opposition they are now grasping at straws and the ship is sinking fast.

I don't know what payment system is in place but to lose the likes of clare marts coming up the busiest time of the year, with 3 or 4 sales a week in ennis alone with 3 rings going some days, and then their couple of branches with weekly or fortnightly sales is unforgivable.

your a/c and yourself seem well matched, btw I really don't think your username is appropriate to your postings, imo

I reckon he's involved with lsl, as they are wonderful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,434 ✭✭✭cute geoge

Spit it out man ,I taught marteye was poor compared to lsl anytime I tried logging infact I just gave up on them ,it is when 3 sales ring on the go together and it goes down that will be the test of marteye. I have lsl sort out technacial issues fairly promptly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,230 ✭✭✭Who2

Theres a few marts I go to and follow that use mart eye and I have seen no issues or problems with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,434 ✭✭✭cute geoge

I could not even turn on a computer up to a few months ago ,I just don't see the big deal about having to pay a small subscription to use a service ,if ole codgers wont pay they can watch home and away instead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,585 ✭✭✭J.O. Farmer

The main purpose of the app is to allow online bidding. Much like the mart doesn't charge an entry fee to view the sale they shouldn't charge to view the stream of the sale or would you suggest an entry fee to view a sale live.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,434 ✭✭✭cute geoge

At least if the ole codgers go to the mart they might leave some few small Bob in the canteen ,what benefit is it lsl or the mart having codgers watching online only putting strain on the live stream

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭grass10

I agree fully lsl has been a total game changer excellent service I don't like marteye either and I don't get the logic of marts leaving lsl as when you have real online bidders a fiver a month makes no difference

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭grass10

IFa man stated last week that he had contacted lsl several times representing farmers in opposition to lsl charges and seemed to be taking credit for lsl backtracking on charges I wonder what would happen Monday morning if lsl shut down would the other 2 systems cope I doubt it then we would have the scenario with no online mart system in many marts what would the whingers say then it would be more in farmers benefit to pay lsl and pay ifa nothing as I never see that organisation achieving anything for farmers only issuing popular press releases after the horse has bolted usually looking for the govt to throw farmers a few euro to keep the farmers happy and quiet but actually achieving nothing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,585 ✭✭✭J.O. Farmer

You'll be an old codger yourself someday or die younger.

There was a simple solution, charge the marts more and let them pass it on to the buyers and sellers or not in their fees. It's in the marts interest to have online bidding.

Sellers definitely benefit from a potentially larger market for their livestock. Buyers could buy online if they want to. I'm sure most of the larger buyers do use it for bidding.

You think any of the 3 couldn't be replaced or expand if one left?

Ah LSL are way ahead of Martbids & Marteye. They seriously messed up. All they had to do was introduce a small charge initially, say €20 per annum and then increase it slowly every year. Bad management on their part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭QA1

go to the agm if your a shareholder most marts are in very sound financial footing and increase cash in bank every year how many dealers are selling cattle in marts now very few I’d say

I think online is great too for both buyers and sellers but lsl just seen more money for them and didn’t weigh up the negatives enough

They still have some msg on the screen for money ball bust game over re the charge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭grass10

Their is only 3 in total you lose 1 and the other 2 must do half the marts each I would not like to rely on the other 2 and its fairly obvious they would then introduce charges anyway I cannot understand why their is so much opposition to lsl proposed charges

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

We were talking about this the other nite and working on the commission for the last week and average half of that at 50 weeks of the year they would be taking almost 2 million a year in commission from it.. some twine...

the great advantage of LSL is you can go in check different lots and see how things are going or look at your own again after selling.marteye is a disaster you have no idea how the trade is going

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭grass10

Agree marteye is very unworkable and just very poorly set up I am wondering is anyone here connected to any of the marts that have left lsl to join marteye and explain why they have changed because clearly for buyers and sellers you are going to a very poor system

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 jambon0104

Are you confusing martbids and marteye, all my local marts are on marteye. I find it easy to work. They have the clips thingy on the app that I can go in and look at clips of lots sold around the country. I find it reliable to buy on aswell. I tried buy springers in kilkenny last year on martbids and it froze right on the lot I tried to buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭grass10

Not confused at all if I look right now at marteye can I see a replay of lots sold yesterday can I see yesterday's catalogue from mart x to see how trade was at that mart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,191 ✭✭✭kk.man

The figures for salary and wages is astonishing, I'm here searching for the annual report so I don't want to get it wrong.

Go to kilkenny mart on any given week they are about 10 dealers as a friend of mine say 'you could set your watch by them'. The ordinary farmers have to accept the lot numbers by a draw to be submitted the night before.

That's the true benefactors of the co op marts.

Do you have to pay on LSL to go back on sales. Most of the marts in the east are on marteye except carnew so it works and suits me perfect. I love watching some of the big sales in the UK on it. Carsile was on today selling sheep and they were flying through lots. I often watch LSL in Carnew but the new fees will probably stop me now.
