Has anyone done the VEC bus course, just wondering is it any good. How is it run, are the driving lessons on going during the 10 weeks. Will I be able to get a job when I’m finished

I did the course in Baldoyle ETB a few years ago.

When I did it, I had already completed my CPC case study, so I didn't need to do any of the classroom aspects - just the driving lessons and the walkaround prep.

All in, the instructors were fantastic. If you show them that you want to do well and get a job at the end of it, they'll put the effort into you. Unfortunately, many of the groups are dole-scroungers who are doing the training course because they're told to, they'll fail the test at the end of it and say "Well, I didn't pass, so I have to either do it again, or not get a job".

IIRC, my course was 3 days a week, for 10 weeks. Start at 8.30, finish around 14.30/15.00 depending on traffic coming back to the college, lunch break in the middle. I had a total of 4 people in my group on the bus.

After I received all my documents (license, CPC card and Tacho) - I immediately got a job with Aircoach, driving bendy buses in the airport. Great for building up some experience before going either onto their coaches, or to another operator.
Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus will take a little longer to get you in the door as they have a longer interview process, medical and aptitude tests.
