That was a 20 second VAR look, no need t0 be looking for something that wasn't there, as red cards go it was a nailed on red. Lucky the lads foot moved to absorb the high foot. That's a leg breaker

Yes, it didn't take long for VAR to show it, but it was needed. You had said VAR wasn't needed.

We've different definitions of a leg breaker. Mine is when an opponents standing foot is planted on the ground and the tackler comes in over the ball. Neither was the case for me.

Don't think I'm being hyperbolic at all when I say this, without Bruno this season we'd be down there with Wolves, Ipswich and Leicester genuinely fighting to stay up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

Bruno has had a good few months but he was bad at the start of the season he didn't score a goal until after ten hagg was sacked, it's amad that carried us for a while and Bruno has stepped up especially since he has been injured.

It is good to see him improving on things under the new manager, the biggest issue with Bruno is the difference between his performance floor and ceiling is big.

He has too many games where he can play very poorly and then does something great and it's all forgotten about.

Doesn't matter currently but it's not a great trait in your captain and best player if you want to be competing at the top.

Bruno can be great, Bruno can be bad, Bruno can do really stupid things that is where the frustration comes with him, hopefully he continues to improve going forward

Considering the ref didn't even give a yellow initially I would disagree with you about not needing VAR.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Its definitely a leg breaker chance, I think Dorgu does pull out last 2nd where he bends his own knee to soften the impact but the lads knee gets jarred back and his leg does nearly gets caught in the turf. It really could have been a bad injury for the lad and was close to one. I also don't think drogu meant it and as I said he pulled out from it being a full force tackle. But there was still plenty of force behind it.

Has Trafford had a massive up tick in form?

He looked way out of his league a couple of seasons ago with Burnley in the PL.

I wouldn't be convinced he's anything like the answer

Also garnacho (or the people running his account) posted a happy team photo on Instagram this morning some will be happy to hear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

To be honest it was probably the right call purely based on how Garnacho reacted to being taken off. Walking off down the tunnel and then that braindead social media post.

I've been one of Bruno's critics on here and would agree with a lot of this [ Haven't heard Keano's latest take ]

I still wouldn't be getting too carried away with his performances against Everton or last night. His goal / assists were from dead ball's.. he has created sweet fa drom open play in either game and gives the ball away as often as he plays the pass. Couple of dead ball assist's dont change the goal posts for me. BUT with the **** show of a keeper, the uncertainity of Mount & Shaw, Garnacho possibly leaving and nothing related to a striker to get us a goal, we will probably be stuck with him for another couple of seasons

I'd be all for giving Bayindir a shot rather than worrying about buying a new keeper tbh. He's looked solid any time I've seen him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Ninthlife

I'd be all for giving Bayindir a run as its been very hard to judge him based on his playing time for United.

I'd steer clear of Trafford, young English keeper having a good season in the Championship but we all know how he will be hyped by the UK media and this would subsequently inflate his transfer fee too

I cant think of too many goalkeepers I'd be really wanting, Oblak is at the wrong end of his career even for a keeper, Costa is apparently linked with City. At one stage I would've liked Donnarumma or Maigan

Senne Lammens is the Belgian keeper United were linked with previously.. but you can bet that given Onanas howlers we will be linked with any and every goalkeeper by the press

Still injured and no set return date. Unspecified muscular injury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,769 ✭✭✭crusd

People are talking about Donnarumma or similar being the answer, but the simple truth is that we can neither afford that profile of player or would they be likely to choose to come here at the moment with the state the club is in without absolutely crazy wage demands. So we need to shop in the up and coming or stable veteran market at the moment. And 2 years ago Trafford was 20, a baby in goalkeeping terms. Trafford is the profile of keeper we should be looking for. Showing talent, 100 starts under his belt, but still developing.

Dare I say Caoimhin Kelleher would be another one😋

God no, hes made look better by that Liverpool defence.

    I'd take Henderson back anyday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,769 ✭✭✭crusd

Who was the amazing keeper we signed in the summer we sold Henderson again?

Unfortunately I doubt we could even afford Henderson now, but even if we could there isn't a hope he would come here.

What has essentially happened is the the Capital investment in players over 10 years has essentially produced no or little return. When a business invests capital they do so to gain a return, in the case of football, Performance on the field driving increased footballing revenue, commercial revenue and future transfer fees. When most of that capital has been written off with minimal return you are left with a financial hole that I believe is going to take 3 years to get out of - because we are still paying off that capital with no value being returned. Probably in effect knocking at a minimum at least 50% if not 75% of what we can invest in players over the next two years. Ineos also want to finance a new stadium in the coming years so will need the bad investments cleared off the books before then. There is a way to improve marginally over the coming 2-3 years but it will be at least 2028 before there can be a substantial turnround, unless we get lucky with some value investments

Henderson has found his level, I'm pretty confident he wouldn't make it as a Premier League winning keeper for any team.

I don't think Onana would either but a lot of keepers seem to have a few good displays against us and feel that they're the right choice. It's like a sub or injured player being the answer to our problems, Donny Van de Beek or when Maguire missed the Europa League Final under Ole.

We've been a recruiting mess for the past decade as you say, let's hope that INEOS know better.

It was like Yoro was playing in a different team to the rest of them. He was on the front foot constantly, proactive on the ball looking to progress it with intensity and speed, really stood out next to nearly everyone around him.

I imagine that is more what Amorim is coaching and expects, but why are so few doing it and yet continue to be selected when they're not doing it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Because he doesn't want to throw in Heaven and Kukoni and Evans and Lindelof can't do it either.

I don't think slow motion replays should ever be used for tackles, the game happens at real speed, that's all that matters, this nonsense of freeze framing studs on shins.

Also the obsession with whether grazing the ball with a stud matters or not. Reckless or foul play decions should be made at game speed only.

You just know they're going to keep showing the worst angles and freeze frames until he agrees to send the player off. Just let VAR say it's a red card if that is the way they are going to present the evidence.

VAR is still an absolute farce in every way

I wasn't referring specifically to the CBs (although they are a massive issue)

The intensity and ball progression of the WBs and CMs is poor too and even the 10s as well. Are they just afraid to do it at the speed and intensity required?

Is it the coach's job to free them up enough psychologically to do it anyway and not to worry about it not coming off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,441 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Did you watch the Spurs match in the League Cup?

He would be worth a run if fit, but he isn't the answer as our no.1 either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,916 ✭✭✭Robson99

He was very aggressive in the tackle in the Ipswich half..never giving the attacker a chance to turn....Maguire, MDL, Evans, Lindelof...none of these are able or brave enough to do this. Hence IMO why we need a first choice CH...if not 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

The worry is at his age (22) to be 1st choice for a club the size of Utd you have to be an unbelievable talent. Generational.

    Is he that?

Keepers often look better at sides like Burnley etc.. Because they face more shots so more chance to pull of a great save that looks well on MOTD with less scrutiny on your mistakes and to be frank he didn't do that, even if he was just 20.

If a keeper saves 5 and let's in 1or 2 at Burnley then it's no big deal as it's to be expected for the most part in the PL. It's still a good day for the keeper potentially.

At Utd currently, you are gonna face a high volume of shots but also face massive scrutiny on any that you don't save.

Talk Sport aren't doing 10/15min segments on the Burnley keeper letting one in at the near post on a Monday morning. But the Utd keeper will get killed every week for it.

Sky Sports will have graphics up showing all your previous mistakes and comparing your save rate to clubs at the top of the league.

Trafford didn't light up the PL a couple of seasons ago under far far less pressure. I'd just fear he'd get eaten alive stepping up from the championship.

Becoming Man Utd 1st choice keeper is a big enough job normally but it's got extra pressure on it now due to how poor the team is in general. He won't get much protection.

only a single game but didn’t see too much in delap last night

Although 10 goals not a bad return

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

A much better prospect than Hojlund.

It will be fascinating where he'll go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 819 ✭✭✭ngunners

Our last six goals have all come from Bruno set pieces. Just FYI for those who want him taken off set pieces.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

He was poor in their home fixture against us as well. 8 non-penalty goals in 26 games in the league. It’s a decent return for being in a relegation zone team for a lad just turned 22 but Højlund has shown us that we can’t afford to keep relying on potential for the first choice striker. Would swap them in a heartbeat though.

He’s got this kind of arrogance about him. He’ll never be short on confidence anyway.

Yes Bruno being on a hot streak from set pieces and also looking like he has improved a lot at then recently, negates all the years of him being terrible at them.

Not sure what you think the uptick proves it doesn't change history, hopefully it continues and if it does no one will be giving out about him on set pieces.

And tbh it was mostly corners people talked not free kicks
