Comfortable result in spite of VAR getting involved yet again to have a Utd player sent off.

3 points in the bag and 1 less game to watch this season. Job done.

I hope we start challenging again for the sole reason that we'd never have to hear those two clowns commentate on one of our matches ever again.

No chance. You'd get longer odds on than that bet than the 3-3 draw that @nachouser had.

Currently 16 points clear of the relegation zone with 33 left to play for (36 for Leicester).

The second that gap drops to less than 16 points the self flagellators will be back with a bang.

Big 3 points, surely that ends any chance of relegation.

    I couldn't agree more.

He works like a dog and is one of our very few players who can actually unlock a defense, deliver a quality pass and get a goal.

Anyone who can perform to a fairly consistently high standard at Manchester United over the last few years while seeing others around floundering and shrinking is to be commended.

Yeah Yoro looks like a quality player. Personally I would've kept Garnacho on ahead of Hojlund.

still have the europa league and fa cup.

the league is done, but winning 1 of those (however unlikely people think that is) is so vital to our ability to spend in the summer.

that summer transfer window is looking worse by the day.

Garnacho is just not disciplined enough. When down to 10 you need players who are going to know when to press and hold position. I think it was the right call.

Rasmus needs to be taken out of the team though, for his own sake and I'd imagine if Mount was fit he'd be getting some time on the bench.

Watching this United side is like walking into the same room every week knowing you're getting punched in the stomach.

At least we actually got the job done for a change.

A decent a keeper would have us a few places higher up the table, makes you appreciate how much De Gea was doing for us for so many years.

I cashed out for 98. 2-2 or 3-3 is very available for this team.

I just think Garnacho would've been a better outlet than Hojlund. Hojlund is struggling at the moment not to lose the ball with 11 v 11, never mind being a man down.

i think savage might be a wee bit spiteful ever since his kid left.

i remember he was co-commentator when the kid made his debut in fa cup/league cup a few years back. commentator handed the reins over to him and he was near enough in tears.

Heard a stat that we haven't been winning at half time for 21 games, is that true?

    Crazy if so.

Been struggling since he joined the club…

Ya I thought Yoro was excellent..pressed well and excellent on the ball. Brunos best game for a while. Zirkzee also done very well when put up top

Jaysus that’s painful to look at. What would you realistically get for them now given their form, wages & injuries (Mount)

Mount - Free transfer (any fee to cover his contract)

    Onana - €10m?

    Hojlund €15m?

€160m loss on €180m spend inside 2 years. Even by United standards that’s pretty shocking. Had some bad ones but surely takes the cake as worst transfer window ever?

The more I see this, the more certain I am that it's never a red card. His foot is always point down, never loses control, wins the ball cleanly, and Hutchinson kicks the bottom of his foot with his shin. Unlucky one but not a sending off.

I don't think there was any intent, and he was unlucky that the other player's leg went from a standing position to very close to the ground in a split second... But it was studs up and he endangered the player, a red card I think. Any time a ref sees studs into a shin in slow motion on the monitor, it's always going to be a red.

Amorim didn't seem to challenge it in the press conference.

    Definite red.

First non shhit appearance by Casemiro in I don't know how long.

Bruno, Yoro, Maguire, Dorgu and De Ligt were United best performers for me.

More like walking into a ring and a guy in your own corner punches you in the stomach.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭IrishOwl...

It was definitely a red, not even borderline that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Interesting question and answer from the post match press conference. Journalist asked if he is playing the type of football he wants. Amorim said something like... no, but with players like De Ligt and Maguire, they want to play a low block.

We all know both don't really suit a high line, it'll be interesting to see how that develops because he's hardly getting 2 new CBs this summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,936 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Its the problem with playing both of them together.

If we get another cb and go yoro, mdl and another I think we can play more aggressively.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭IrishOwl...

I've said it here a few times, but centre half needs to be addressed before anything else. 352 is doomed to fail if you can only defend in a low block and have no ball playing centre half who can get on the ball in the opposition half when required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

I should have added that he was also asked about corners and he was quite honest in saying that he has had to adjust to the difference (more physical) and it's been a learning curve. I got the impression that he may be caught between a rock and a hard place in thinking he needs both DeLigt and Maguire for them but also sees the drawback of playing both.

Like, he could have went Yoro, De Ligt and Mazraoui if he wanted to play a higher line tonight.

He also mentioned that keeping Hojlund on over Garnacho was with corners in mind (More from a defensive corner presumably).

amorim seems to a data heavy coach.

i'm pretty certain rasmus has never gotten a headed goal for us. i cant remember him even getting a headed chance.

how does amorim think he will fare with defensive headers? i actually thought he might get a 2nd yellow tonight given his recent propensity for wrestling.

with the high line, it was highlighted before we ever signed de ligt that he was (i cant remember exactly but down near maguire in terms of pace) as fast as maguire. play them, but they have no interest in pushing up the pitch.

he is ceding control of the game for defensive stability at potential set pieces. a very defeatist attitude i think.

Lot being made online about Garnacho going straight down the tunnel after being subbed, then posting this:

    20250227_003954.jpg

Is that meant to mean the decision to take him off stinks? Who knows. Amorim said he'd talk to him about going down the tunnel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,300 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

a man down and he gets subbed for a defender in a game we win.

    he should be celebrating that.

that strikes me as not a team player.

maybe go cry a river someplace else.

as for walking down the tunnel - like his play, just greedy and self serving.

did that happen someone else recently and they were ostracised?

and the next question, have the players lost respect for the manager?

Was at the game. Only get over every few years and it’s generally a good experience. I enjoy the stadium itself and sure it may not have all the best facilities but it does have character. Maybe I would feel different if I went more often but there’s bigger things to fix. I’m sure the novelty plays a factor but I find the Aviva souless in comparison.

Lucky to get to see a win considering this seasons home form. Entertaining game with a bit of everything. Crowd turned a bit after the double-whammy of the red and soft second goal with some boos at the half time whistle but backed the team in the second half. Odd to see so much success off set pieces. Would have hoped for more chances from open play against a weak side but the result matters more.

Always entertaining to read back on the posts after a result. Mark Goldbridge has nothing on some lads. Maybe it’s just a bit of a high from the win but I’m not writing the season off completely until all the cups are done. A lot would have to fall into place but better than being out. Big couple of weeks coming up.
