Achill is a beautiful place. Cleared up after 2pm in Sligo sunny n windy since. Ya certainly wouldn't go near the beach here in this as like Dugort North wind wrecks day at Rosses Point and as has been the case most days this Summer it's a NW to N strong breeze.

The West is really getting the best of any weather this summer.

Raining all day in Dublin, finally stopped now but still slate grey skies.

I've 3 washes of clothes drying inside, thank god I've a very good dehumidifier.

Only a few at that spot but a nice early blue sauce bottle, maybe 1920's or so and the Californian fig syrup maybe 20's to 40's and the early Cantrell & Cochrane round bottom mineral water ( C&C ) which were made from 1869 to early 1900's ( neck broken unfortunately, but I can cut it and use it for something , needs a bleaching ).

Awful in Dublin today...but in fairness has been decent recently...have had a few bbqs so can't complain

30 year time period which is updated every 10 years. Current average is from 1991-2020. More here from https://www.met.ie/climate/30-year-averages

Thanks very much Donegal. 30 years is a long span. I'm sure you can see that Malin Head has much lower windspeeds the past decade compared to the 90's. You'd imagine 20years for averages and updated every five years.

Anyone in Dublin it's worth having a look at the moon. Haven't seem it this bright in a long time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 386 ✭✭Thunder87

100% overcast for the whole day in Dublin, then literally 5 minutes after sunset the whole sky just clears completely🙄

We're having some awful luck here this summer, from reports on here it seems like the west is doing far better for brightness and sunshine

Yes I can 2nd that we had rain till 1pm and sun was out from 3pm onwards , for once I'm glad Dublin had all the rain today ,no offence but we tend to get an extra 30 days a year of rain than the east

If I'm not mistaken Sryan posted a stat recently that Dublin is currently having it's least sunny year on record.

And that's after 2023 was the wettest year on record, so it's been an awful run for a prolonged period now. Even the brief respite most of the country got in May/early June last year was often Baltic here, everyone wrapped in winter jackets while there was talk of heatwaves further west

Dull morning in Celbridge, it started to rain just as the sun came out at lunchtime - very light rain that you'd miss looking out the window. Various apps predicting a dry bright week overall in Dublin, but the Indo saying ME forecasting "a wet week". I hope not.

You can be sure that summer will probably remain like that, and then winter will be 100% above average days!

Is this one of the worst summers on record? Temperature hasn’t gone above 23 degrees in Dublin. 8th of July was the only summers day that had no clouds for 12 hours.

Yeah it's still overcast in Dublin but it's mild enough.

Odd shower and forecasting rain about 7pm here.

If we don't get above 23 degrees would that be one of the lowest high temperature for July?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭compsys

    I doubt it.

Irish expectations of summer are always ridiculously high. We all seem to suffer from collective amnesia each year when another summer rolls round…

You'd love to be able to say that this is one of the worst summers on record (meaning the vast majority of our summers are significantly better). But that's not the case.

Don't get me wrong - it hasn't been a good summer. And July in particular has been quite poor everywhere even by Irish standards. But it's been relatively dry and in the East June was fairly close to average temp wise. I'd imagine there have been far worse summers.

The latest forecasts show next weekend looking much better. August could end up being a good month.

Our summers are often front loaded (better weather in May and June). This year it could be the opposite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 850 ✭✭✭Rugbyf565

we haven’t even had a ‘heat wave’ this summer though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 386 ✭✭Thunder87

I think what's making this summer particularly miserable is that as you say, normally we'd have a decent spell of weather at some point by now but after coming out of the wettest year on record and one of the cloudiest springs on record having a whole summer of grey skies and temperatures in the teens is hard to take

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭compsys

True. It's definitely been very dull this year. All the stats back that up. And we're deprived of sun in Ireland as it is!

But it will be interesting to see how bad this summer ends up compared to the others.

Glad it stayed dry in Dublin for the epic hurling final. Well done to Clare!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Horrendous rain. Driving down from Ballinamore to Ardagh and back wasn't great.
