    From his speech yesterday:

"gasoline prices are down by a lot" - they are slightly up

"just hit $1.98 in a lot of states" - The lowest in any state is $2.67

"Since I took office, the cost of eggs is down 87%." - False

If any leader in our country stood up and gave such blatantly false petrol prices there'd be war.

Even Trump's contrarian supporters here have gone deathly silent. This stuff and so much from the past 100 days is un-spinnable even for them.

He's a well known racist and his hatred of Mexicans is common knowledge. It's like when Nigel Farage was talking about deepening Commonwealth ties during the Brexit debates but he only ever mentioned white-majority countries.

Its mental how cheap their fuel is and these fcukers keep moaning about it. They're nearly getting a gallon for what we pay per litre and its still too much for them. The sense of entitlement is palpable. They went ahead an intentionally wrecked an economy in the vain attempt to reduce egg and fuel prices.

Just looked at the BBC and RTE websites' reporting of Trump's 100-day rally. The lack of critical rebuttal of his lies is depressing. I suppose "balance" means they must give as much credit to Trump as they do to his rivals. I really wish the reporting uf such events would come with a robust fact-checking: I am sure it would be easy to construct a list of, say the top 10 lies he utters in a speech

Listing all the lies would take up too much space.

According to economist article I read this morning the chickens are coming home to roost

Or in case of trade the sailings from Asia to US fell off a cliff, the stock markets are in for a surprise once shelves start to go empty USSR style

8.45 is bizarre and the guy gives me such weird vibes.

"I don't think that Americans want to give President Trump a chance because they like the way he looks on TV. Although, I think he's great on TV."

I'm surprised she just let him get away with claiming suppliers pay the tariffs. He even claimed that Amazon doesn't know how tariffs work.

Yes, the likes of RTE and the BBC are complicit by itheir lack of flood defences.

Meanwhile, retribution against FBI agents for taking the knee 5 years ago: real totalitarian stuff:

It's nice that China is so kind it'll foot the bill the US is applying to Chinese imports - another bar of soap in mouth occasion. When Christmas arrives, who'll foot the bill for the seasonal lights?

They won't need to. No toys for the kids so instead of bringing Christmas back, he cancelled it.

Miriam O'Callaghan took it to a new level last night.

She had a Maga spokeswoman on who proudly proclaimed that the tariffs are working and that the government had taken in billions because of the tariffs since April 2nd.

Miriam didn't challange her and make the point that the reason is that it's an import tax and US citizens are being shook down for this money at the ports. And ultimately it will be passed on to their customers.

Miriam rarely asks the probing questions in any interview. She was useless when Brexit was happening too. I really miss Marian Finucane.

Too brown and wrong language. On that note, would they force Quebec into speaking English? That wouldn’t go down too well!

That's the problem, very few reporters challenge them.

Like Trump claiming $2bil a day in tariffs were collected when in fact it was only $200mil. Why can't reporter ask where the missing $1.8bil has disappeared to? That's a massive amount of fraud committed daily under his watch etc… Spin it around.

Or Trump insisting tariffs will mean there will be no income tax but when he rows back on the tariffs and doing deals with countries, why is he doing that? It's basically taking money out of people's pockets because they will have to pay income tax.

The problem with not challenging MAGA pronouncements is that the news outlet that regurgitates them appears to tacitly accepts those assertions as facts.

I've been calling it journalistic malpractice for quite some time.

As the old saying goes... If one person says it’s raining and another says it’s not raining then the journalist should look out the window first and then report the truth

Yeah unfortunately there's far too much "We're only reporting on what was said" without offering any factual rebuttal on when what was said is demonstrably false.

I wonder if they're afraid to push on questions in case they get kicked out of White House briefings?

GDP growth slows to -0.3%, marking the first negative growth since Q1 2022

The press briefings are nothing more than a farce anyway. Most of the reporters have been replaced by right-wing ‘influencers’.

It's a bit disappointing that CNN aren't going harder on him. He already hates them so they should be pushing the facts out in interviews. Get their own Jeremy Paxman.

CNN aren't much better than Fox News or OANN. Trump needs the enemy within for his agenda and CNN fits that part perfectly while they benefit from the current situation.

I think as with what happened to the Associated Press when they denied access for not referring to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, CNN are likely afraid to go too hard and lose access. After all, reporting on Trump is what brings a lot of their viewers in. If they're on the sidelines and only able to report on what others are reporting/asking, viewers may end up going directly to those sources.

Of course, all those who voted for Trump because of how he'd protect free speech are the ones who are most quiet about it.

Now, you see - you got it all wrong...

    1000007392.jpg

So, when the figures were great under Biden's administration, it was because the stock market anticipated great times under Trump.

And when figures are poor under Trump, that's Biden fault.

    Do you see now?? 🤪

MAGA of course will lap it up. Because they really, really are that stupid, and really, really that much of a cult.

Hillary was wrong when she called them deplorables, retarded deplorables would have been more apt. And by retard I mean being so stupid and lacking in intelligence as be classed as retarded.

Not a brain cell between them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,680 ✭✭✭yagan

Again it's worth iterating, the USA is now under the control of a cult.

    Anyone still in doubt?

Only question now is how will it unravel. I won't be surprised if there's civil war.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭Cody montana

What a pathetic excuse for a leader.

Last quarter under Biden was 2.3% I believe.

    Now it’s -0.3%.

    That’s some swing.

There won't be a civil war. Americans are just too sycophantic and pliant. Trump has continually abused the constitution and the system and all Americans do is clap like seals or wail on social media. They live in a corporate oligarchy and they've convinced themselves that it's somehow the greatest democracy to ever have existed.

I agree. So far there has been next to no real resistance to anything Trump has done. The Democrats are asleep at the wheel. Maybe they have some great plan for the midterms or the next election who knows. They would want to do something soon though or there will be not a Democracy or Republic left to take back as Trump will have made it just like Russia.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
