for those that seem to live and breathe this thread, was there any rebuttal to Vance? anyone call him out on his scaremongering?

some of the youtube replies to his speech were full of praise, best speech ever stuff, although it depends which news organisation had released the youtube clip.

europe seems to be as fractured as the US… russia and china loving this.

You're just repeating the same silly baseless claims. You say that the far right and the centre right are the same but that only the far right is bad.

Repeating the same silly nonsense doesn't make it true. I'm not sure what this has to do with Trump so I'm not going to continue with this.

This is real 20th century thinking, imo. Whether or not the views of these people are radical or just plain wrong, the fact is that they're not going to simply go away by being ignored. That might have worked in the 90s when TV, radio and the papers controlled much of the public mood. It is no longer true in the age of social media.

Weeds get worse if you ignore them. Cancer generally grows if left untreated. Bullying doesn't stop by turning the other cheek. We understand on a nearly instinctual level that a problem unchecked doesn't solve itself, yet ignorance is the prescribed course of action for incumbent governments throughout the west in the face of rising far right movements. It's all going to go into the Neville Chamberlain category when history is written.

State? Some of the knuckledragger MAGAs in Vance land have probably never left their county. (apologies to Cletus who seems to have been an affable fellow)

Some of the praise of this and other Trumpist ravings seems to be coming from the Reform gang, many of whom seem to have swallowed the whole MAGA/Vatnik koolaid bottle. I would have thought that a certain amount of Commonwealth solidarity would prevail in light of Trump's bullying of Canada. It appears not for many of them. MAGA with better spelling and punctuation.

He used Greta as an example of what he had to deal with compared to Musk…

I’m sure you can see the ludicrousness of that alone, let alone a Republican trying to lecture the EU about free speech when his administration is actively trying to restrict that right now. It’s free speech in America if you’re white and Christian, that’s all.

Europe is nowhere near as fractured as the US, not even close. His speech was all about culture stuff, which is what his administration is targeting right now. Vance was trying to poke for an argument from the EU. He brought up the case of a bloke in Scotland being jailed because he broke the law by praying in the safe zones around abortion clinics. To him, that’s impinging on Free Speech, but it’s just breaking the law. It has nothing to do with stopping people praying.

Vance is trying to paint the EU as fractured and parts of it under some sort of iron rule. He is just doing what he is told from the string pullers in America.

For him to even question democracy in Europe when his president never conceded the 2020 election and encouraged January 6th…he must have a neck like a jockeys bollox.

All of his predecessors? Including the five (three acting and two actual) during Trump's last term.

What are the US population being poisoned by? Is it something new since the last time Trump was President?

Have health outcomes really got worse decade after decade? I think any cursory glance at the statistics would say otherwise.

Did Obama not try to tackle it but all the Republican voters said they didn't want the Affordable Healthcare Act and that they'd rather pay through the nose for private healthcare and still die earlier than their European equivalent?

Its amazing to think that that clown came from someone like Robert Kennedy.

Jesus H Christ, he did a Hannity interview with Musk along with him.

Nothing says alpha more than bringing the guy who you sat listening to in the oval office along to your first prime time interview since you were elected? Right? This is borderline comical until you remember the impact these clowns have.

I am just super curious what leverage Musk has over Trump

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,079 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Money. Elon spent 270 getting Trump elected, Trump knows he'll bankroll anything he needs with respect to legal, campaigning etc outside of the Presidential office.

    That's my guess.

Or it might be that he knows the MAGA'ts are buying the "He's a genius" line so he can use him to get stuff done and tell people who complain they're too stupid to understand what Musk understands.

"Trump has signed an executive order halting federal funds for schools that require students to be vaccinated against COVID before they can attend classes in person."

To anyone who sees trump as great, for sticking it to the libs, know this.

All of those things that you thought wouldn't affect you, will.

Unless you're fully delusional, you will get buyer's remorse.

You've probably had a moment or two in his first few weeks where privately you felt a little uncomfortable. And that was just a few weeks!

You might visit this forum, or discuss him less.

That's because you're finally understanding that this isn't a ****ing joke.

He is very serious about being a dictator, and doesn't care who dies.

You're better off listening to that inner voice who is telling you something is really wrong.

He won't "settle down". There won't be anyone else there to make sure he won't do anything too reckless. That's delusional. That's something you will hope/imagine is true, just to make you feel better. Don't downplay it.

He "isn't the same as the previous presidents".

    That's false equivalence.

    This is unprecedented.

    This is inexcusable behaviour.

    Be honest with yourself.

    Be honest with others.

    Call him what his is.

A dangerous fascist who will tear absolutely everything down. On a global scale.

Plus he can cover things like his Jean E Carroll payout whenever he eventually has to make it. Trump's got lots of debts.

Sounds like a rerun of Musk's twitter fiasco. Most of those people told him to get fcuked. Hopefully that happens here too.

I am sure "RFK" will get right on it, bringing those EU style regulations to put manners on US big food, big agri etc. He looks a bit queasy below…

He also knows the power of social media and specifically twitter. He doesn't want a disgruntled Musk shutting on his parade from the sidelines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,077 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

But it has to be more than that. Having Musk take the lead in the Oval office while he sits in his chair. Letting Musk bring his son to work, and be rude to Trump. We've seen Trump publicly bash reporters who he feels aren't being respectful but this kid is allowed do whatever he wants?

Now doing joint interviews? Trump has never treated anyone the way he is treating Musk. Serious questions need to be asked.

This guy wasn't on the ticket, nobody voted for him and yet here he is acting as the Co-POTUS.

Trump was supposed to Drain the Swamp but instead has allowed the US be taken over by the world's richest man.

Sadly that is probably true. When Biden said this I immediately thought that this was permission.

The sheer state of that picture. An unelected billionaire who's been given the keys to the White House, a life-long conman and convicted felon who is somehow President again, and an anti-vaxxer who's just been made health secretary - about to chow down on quite possibly the unhealthiest food available

A TV show couldn't come up with this script

RFreaKjr has made 'processed foods bad' part of whatever is percolating past the worm in his brain as part of his 'Make America Healthy Again' "program". Whilst chowing down on the ultimate in processed foods, at the feet of the guy that lives on Diet Coke, Adderall and Big Macs.

The health of Americans has gotten worse in the last few decades. Trump did nothing about it last time. Obama affordable healthcare act would do nothing to solve the problems, that is just transferring tax payers money to Pharma companies and ignoring the issues.

RFK says he will solve the issues. Time will tell, it is highly unlikely he will succeed.

Are there any schools in Ireland that require kids to have the covid vaccine before attending? From what I gather from my family it's not a thing anymore in general, especially for kids, but could be wrong. None of my young nieces and nephews in ireland got the covid vaccine because its not recommended for that age group. Is it really that unprecedented? Maybe calm down a bit there?

"transferring tax payers money to Pharma companies and ignoring the issues."

Yeah, sure, people should drink urine and eat a spoon of cinnamon every day instead of relying on Big Pharma and their toxic chemicals to treat their diabetes, depression, cancer and whatever else.

You should rethink this "Big Bad Pharma" idea in your head. People used to live "all natural" in the middle ages. And they called themselves lucky if half their children survived and the mother survived giving birth to them in the first place. They could then look forward to a long and healthy life for almost 40 years. A splinter, a cut, an infected tooth, rotten food could all kill you.

We have "Big Evil Pharma" for a reason.

Also, the so-called alternative is now an industry as well, don't think for one second that they have any other goal in mind but profit when they sell you their sugar pills, tarot cards and incense sticks. I've known people in that industry and over the past 20 years a lot of them went completely loola and off the deep end of delusions and conspiracy theories.

Proof by blatant assertion (esp. wrt to Obamacare.) Also ignores any confounding data, like people are living a lot longer in the US due to advances in medical care.

RFreaK jr says vaccines cause autism and talked Samoa out of measles vaccines so a lot of their children died. You believe him? I've a bridge to sell you. Plus, have you ever actually listened to him talk? As bad as Trump when it comes to gobbledygook and nonsense.

This misrepresents what Biden said. This from CNN: “It’s one thing if it’s a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about what to do and not do,” Biden told reporters at an East Room news conference. “But if they actually do what they’re capable of doing with the forces amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine.”

Clearly one didn't want to risk a war with Russia over a border incident (of which there were many during 2014-2922). But Biden's main message was quite clear. Stop the "senile old Biden" nonsense, so typical of MAGA, who base vitrually all political argument on personal abuse, because they have nothing sensible or proper to bolster theri case.

They don't care. It'll always be the fault of the establishment, the elites, or whatever trope MAGA feeds them. It's the country where children are regularly gunned down, healthcare is an unaffordable luxury and the number one cause of bankruptcy, and one where the president is essentially a dictator now.

    It should have died here:

    image.png

But of course it didn't. Rural Americans, American Christians, the NRA types, and so on decided that this was their man in 2015 and they're not going to stop now. Their response to the rape allegations was to double down on supporting him and pretend that they care about women's safety.

The penny will not drop. It didn't drop in the UK with Brexit. We literally have to wait for the older generations who voted for it to die off for common sense to prevail and rejoin the EU.

I'm inclined to say an anti vaxxer who claims autism is caused by vaccines will cause damage and only damage. Let's say they ban anti depressants etc. That's a country going into withdrawal which is a pretty terrible thing for anyone who has dealt with it. It would result in success.

That's ignoring people with various conditions that rely on medications where normality of any kind would cease that's the people with schizophrenia, psychosis or even something as simple as ADHD.

Meanwhile RFK promises to send them to work on farms...
