The US is heading in to a world of hurt. They're about to raise the anti American/Israeli sentiment across the entirety of the middle east at the same time as they gut the CIA and FBI. So the very organisations that have the intelligence to prevent attacks within the US are dismantled and the likelihood of receiving advisories from the 5 eyes is extremely low given how aggressive he's been to all it's members.

If you look at how Trump came to power, it was really from outside the Republican party establishment. It wasn't something the latter particularly wanted. What the Republican party did help do was sow the seeds of Trump's rise in the first place, although they got a different result to this than they wanted, but had to go along with it.

I believe a similar process will have to take place with the Democrats in order to produce a candidate who is as electrifying to voters as Trump is to Republicans (and I don't mean Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson). The party will not be able to focus group their way out of this problem, or have a think tank of wet-behind-the-ears poli-sci graduates from Harvard come up with an effective strategy. Maybe some voters will have to settle because they get swept along in whatever movement emerges, but the majority of voters would need to be genuinely excited by the new direction, and that would mean relatively little compromise. The staid, centrist politics of old is not coming back to the USA for a long time, so the Democrats better start playing in line with that reality.

Constitutions are only words on paper unless there's someone willing to enforce them. It's pretty clear the law agencies can't even protect themselves, let alone the Constitution. They've let a bunch of spotty teenagers and a nerd with a penchant for nazis run them out of their offices.

Trump is the one with the hand on the ability to do things there now, not the Dems.

Personally I'd be inclined to ask Trump if its coincidence that, days after Netanyahu left him, for them both to be singing from the same hymn-sheet about walking away from a brokered deal he had no public qualms about just when the Jordanian King was due to make an official visit to the US and Trump at the White House. Couple that with Trumps previous statements suggesting that Jordan and Egypt take in the Palestinian Gaza residents in the knowledge that Trump is not prepared to let them return to Gaza after the reconstruction work there is complete.

He has to have been briefed by Benny on what might be done next by Israel leading to the comments about hell etc landing in Gaza if ALL the Israeli hostages were not handed over this weekend. The deal was for swops over several weeks, not simply on a demand from Trump.

What about? Any one of the the things Trump has done in the last three weeks, including re-introducing plastic straws, would have brought down a government anywhere else.

His comments on the Middke East has led to Israel reneging on the ceasefire.

And today Trump has said America is going to just take Gaza. The UN should be stepping in and calling out this incredibly inflammatory behavior.

Anerica right now might be in the process of losing a World War without any shots being fired. Trump is massively undermining their authority as he alienated his allies and destroys the CIA and FBI. This is all likely to be very impactful even if he reversed every thing he has done right now.

Incredible stuff, and worse than any of us imagined he would be. And to think we had clowns on here saying he's a peacemaker.

I don't know if you've noticed but Don and his motley crew don't give a toss about the UN. After his arrest warrant for ICJ members I won't be surprised if we'll end up seeing the UN having to relocate to a sane jurisdiction.

I’m more referring to the refusing to leave office and run a third term.
It just seems unbelievable to me that it could be possible.

With a bit of luck some of his actions start impacting the average American noticeably soon so that they turn on him.

President Obama was a good President - I think he needs to speak out - he’s probably going through personal issues if the tabloids are to be believed but still - he’s probably one of the few who could gain traction to some degree -

Where I’m coming from is simply Inter-cert , not even Leaving Cert history from many years ago obviously - the signs are there in terms of trouble ahead - I guess it’s about does anyone wish to recognise those signs - but they’re so bloody obvious

wtf is going on in America? It’s like some dystopian nightmare. Trump is uncontrollable.

Has Trump yet directly answered the question “what will you do if Gazans refuse to leave their land?”

Let’s Make California Danish! Lovin the parody! 😃😀😍

“We’ll bring hygge to Hollywood, bike lanes to Beverly Hills and organic smørrebrød to every street corner. Rule of law, universal healthcare and fact-based politics might apply,” the petition continues. The petition aims to crowdfund $1tn (“give or take a few billion”) and receive 500,000 signatures.

It is time for the world to respond - they carefully didn’t “react” - I get that - but the institutions that were build to protect democracy now have to come together - Trump is not bigger than them all and besides, they’ve had quite a while to plan for this

I used to think these dystopian comedies about a crumbling, insane USA were a great laugh. I'm not laughing any more. The film 'Idiocracy' is set 500 years in the future , but a world as crazy as that depicted suddenly seems possible in my lifetime…and I'm no spring chicken. As for 'Canadian Bacon' I can easily imagine some gang of Proud Boys, incited and whipped up by Trump or Alex Jones or Tucker Carlson and spewing anti-canadian fury tearing across the border in their pickup trucks to get stuck into these Socialists/Moslems/drug smugglers/people traffickers/cheaters/whatever the hell the excuse is. It won't end in a laugh, though. People will die.

He doesn’t have to - it will be bloody and he’ll get his way. My questions is when will the world step in? A United front of all good democracies against the US until Trump resigns - it’s come to that - it’s actually that simple - this is about an absolute lunatic in the white house - if you look at it any other way you’re a fool and have been fooled - Trump is trying to hide behind a hell of a lot of presidents who played by the rules in the main as president- he’s giving the allusion this is democracy in action - it’s not, it’s terrorism

As others have said, a constitution is only words. It needs systems in place to enforce it.

As McConnell started back with refusing to allow a scotus pick for Obama. It was completely against the accepted rules but he knew nobody could actually stop him.

With SCOTUS already agreeing that POTUS has immunity as long as it actions as a POTUS there really is nothing to stop him trying.

And as we saw with 2020, Trump has plenty of people around him willing to bend and push the rules. In most cases it seems they take the approach of going ahead until someone stops them.

So lets gameplay it. Trump decides that that article in the Constitution was not fit for purpose and just decides to run again.

The GOP won't stand in his way. They face the same MAGA backlash as they were afraid of previously.

The Dems will moan about it but then claim that it is only right the voters get a say on what is essentially a vote on a constitutional amendment.

The media will point out the sheer unconstitutional nature but then forget it when Trump slags off Ariana Grande, or Taylor Swift or whomever is popular at the time and then starts talking about whether they'll even be a boy born that could swim faster than a shark.

One thing everyone surely has learnt at this stage is that nothing is off limits for Trump. If it isn't him then you can be sure its a handpicked replacement who will follow the exact same path.

Americans decided in 2024 that democracy wasn't all that great and they would trust the guy that doesn't accept democracy and wants to be a dictator to protect their democracy going forward

And Canada has offered to buy Washington, Oregon and California. That would work, I support that for sure.

“Trump is the one with the hand on the ability to do things there now, not the Dems.”

The Dems need to respond -it’s that simple - Trump will keep going until he’s stopped . America needs the Dems - you have to scrap the “opposition” playbook here - it’s worthless - this is going way beyond Democracy- for all their education and money, the Dems are behaving like a bunch of cowards as far as I can see

it’s not worse that I imagined. He said he was going to do it openly or implied he would through proxies. Nothing he’s done so far is surprising, just disappointing.

The absolute goons who thought he’d be better for Palestine should be ashamed of themselves

    they/them/theirs

If Obama speaks out it’ll make Trump even more determined to do what he’s planning. He despises Obama

there’s 4 years of this to come- so we all remain silent? Is that it ?

So it’s appeasement then is that the way we go?

What’s the “red line”? Really America can drown in its own pizz- they created this - but it doesn’t mean Europe and the rest of the world have to get syphilis while America fcks itself -as for Obama, he can help democracy right now if he cared to do so - become a catalyst - Trump will do what Trump will do regardless - there’s no one body of any significance criticising him right now and look what he’s doing ? You honestly think he gives a sh1t about criticism ?

Seemed to be speaking as kind of errand boy for the USs new Tech royalty, delivering threats acc. to below.

    https://www.politico.eu/article/vp-jd-vance-calls-europe-row-back-tech-regulation-ai-action-summit/

They don't seem to be your EU leaders. There's more than the VPN set to Trumpland. I wonder why you are living in this poor country with likes of us at all. 🤷

In America they might let you have just as many plastic straws with your super-duper sized corn syrup cola as you like + can enjoy chucking them out the cartruck window after! It is great!

If there was a president set for Trump to run for 3 terms, I would love it if Obama used that to have a go at him. That would be poetic.

Watching Sky news right now and looking at Elon Musk talking out of his ass in the Oval Office just looks so odd. USA is screwed, finished, done. Only a matter of time
