In principal I don't have a problem with someone being deported for being illegal , but the outright racist approach taken by Trump is just awful.

The whole "shock and awe" bollocks with Noem playing dress up as "SWAT Barbie" is just pathetic.

Likewise using C130's etc. to fly them out instead of commercial aircraft is just Hate-porn for his base. Many time more expensive and infinitely less efficient but hey - It "looks" cool.

When the big Agri companies can't get workers to pick the crops later this year you'll suddenly see ICE looking elsewhere.

No chance that they'll do what the immigrants themselves have been asking for , which a simpler "temporary migrant worker visa" scheme allowing them to cross the border for harvest/planting season legally and then go back home.

Which is what most of them do today anyway , just illegally.

Well exactly - Because it's a media creation for the most part.

It isn't actually an issue , almost NO ONE is impacted by this , but the right wing media spun and spun and spun and riled up the MAGA base and had all of them screaming about something that they had no actual exposure to and likely never will.

Keep them angry and afraid about imaginary Trans-people in their bathrooms and imaginary groups of murderous immigrants roaming the streets raping and murdering at will.

It's a distraction technique so that the blue-collar MAGAs don't notice the largest and fastest transfer of wealth in history is happening right under their noses , that their rights as workers are being wiped out , that the safety nets like Medicaid/Medicare etc. are being torn apart.

They know if they give them a moment without that fear , they'll see the reality..

The number 1 issue for voters was the economy, the cost of living crisis, inflation etc…
Now that Trump has dismissed any notion that he cares about that or has any intention to help lower prices, his supporters, rather than calling him out decide the Trans or Woke issue was really the main thing.

Otherwise they have to accept they got grifted by a well known grifter and all the people telling them that Trump doesn't give a **** about the cost of living would have been proved right.

He's not a grifter in a sense. Most MAGA voters just want everyone but them to suffer and Trump is delivering that for them. It's like that old joke where a man wishes to be beaten half to death because his wife will get double.

I think some people are spending far too much time online honestly. They seem to think trans people are hiding under their beds or something. Every exit poll I looked at covered things like democracy, rule of law, immigration, the economy, etc. No mention of the trans people MAGA posters here are shrieking about.

Temporary visa for harvesting while certainly sounds practical likely to be abused in some way over time - perhaps that’s why previous governments didn’t go that route.

Must be a complete exploit-fest of a job too - promised X, deduct a massive Y for “accommodation” and “expenses” and pay Z- if you’re lucky- no less the danger of the border crossing back/forth

Yeah they took the moral high ground and spent an enormous amount of time there especially toward the end of the election which might be fine in the past but you need to know what rocks the boat of your electorate - while they were doing that, Trump was promising the sun moon and stars in terms of price cuts and money in your pocket.. very hard to roll back on that - and given they were in power for 4 years, very hard to then convince the electorate that the economy will improve under them.

But what gets me is, now Trump is in power, where’s the market intervention and price cuts and what not ? It’s as if he’s going after his “pet” projects of gender and inclusivity etc - and actually forgetting what got him there which was mainly his speeches on the economy and the utopia he’d create
