It is amazing that in almost every post you have to make a dig at the democrats.

This is all on Trump. Nothing at all to do with the Democrats. Trump said he would be a dictator and his supporters will only to happy to make that happen. Not only did the voters give him POTUS, they gave the GOP the House and Senate. Already they were in charge of SCOTUS. There is nothing the DNC can do.

You honestly cannot place a value judgment on a person coming out with an ethnic cleansing proposal. On the basis that the people's lives are so awful anyway sure wouldn't they be better off somewhere else?

Yet at the same time, you claim the Democrats should be outraged and are leaderless in not doing so!

What, exactly, is the point of this, given the stupidity of the average MAGA surely it would benefit to keep them from dying at work of their own idiocy

The democrats and their supporters are not entirely blameless, half of the time on run up to election was spent by one wing of the Democratic Party fighting the rest publicly and loudly over Gaza

Their supporters (especially the Jewish and Muslim vote, and the far left) openly stated that they will either stay at home and not vote or vote Trump because “he will bring peace to Gaza”

I must have listened to every Americast bbc episode before election and this was repeated time and time again but democratic leaning voters

I remember at the time going “wtf have you all forgotten what a shitshow of a circus Trump is?”

The election was on a knife edge and few thousand votes here and there could have made all the difference

And the worst part, is that Biden the poor old fecker is still being blamed

Show me where I have “defended” what Trump has said? You do realise that running around shouting outrage is exactly what Trump wants people to do - my lack of response of outrage is a far more measured response - I focus on what the impact will be of what Trump says -not on what he actually says. I’m awaiting the response from the EU, from the Arab world and how this plays out - that’s all that matters right now.

Thread needs to take a chill pill. Trumps been on the political scene for over a decade now, people should be familiar with how these things go.

President Trump announces his final solution to the Palestinian problem.

Today President Trump announced Operation Living Space. “Palestine is a hellhole…a ghetto” he said. As from next week trains will leave Palestine for Camp Auskibbutz, where a sign saying “العمل يحررك” will greet arrivals. Young men and women without children to the left, the young the elderly and the infirm to the right, where a nice hot shower awaits them…

I’m not really in either camp when it comes to Israel/Palestine but Trumps great plan strikes me as not thought out at all.

America literally designed the modern, postwar world. The established the IMF, the UN, the WTO, etc. They designed the postwar states of Japan and Germany. The world has always been bent to suit the US' interests. To be fair, they were smart enough about it to make sure there was some ancillary benefit to local powers like France and the UK.

Now that the model is struggling, they're pretending to be the victims of the international rules-based order that they themselves created. It's beyond pathetic and really speaks to how poorly educated vast swathes of the country are that they buy into this grievance narrative. It's like McDonalds complaining about the cost of paper straws.

The US was designed in opposition to the British monarchy to allow slaveowners to continue their territorial expansion and human exploitation. "Rights" there have always been luxuries for the rich packaged as universal principles.

And will also likely remove liability when such accidents occur because you won't be able to say the corporation was uncompliant with regulations.

I'd classify comments like this as defending and downplaying . You basically made it sound like a humanitarian mission rather than ethnic cleansing. You've basically got in a huff because posters are discussing the fact the US president has just called for the ethnic cleansing of a region…

I agree - there’s no way a Trump Tower will appear on the Gaza beachfront any time soon. Well, not without a very bloody war- what he’s proposing is unworkable - it will never come to pass .

Ironically, the wouldn't have to given the cost of getting justice over there but Americans are astonishingly servile towards corporations and billionaires.

A mate of mine, Navy vet, sent me a message the other day. He was on the way to a pro immigration march in Arizona.

“This is not the country I swore to defend”

he voted GOP right up to Trump.

It’s insanity what’s happening, I’m glad some good people finally being shocked awake by Trump living up to his promises. He told us he was going to do it, people didn’t believe him.

One way of estimating if the Gaza Strip situation heats up [after Trumps suggestions to let the reconstruction of the strip turn it into a tourist hotel venue] is to see if UG Solutions, a US private security company staffing the Netzarim Gaza strip crossing point stays put and its staff figures move up or down. The Co moved in over the past week after seeking former special ops veterans to fill its staff requirements there. The reported presence of the US Co was in The Time Of Israel.

Trump putting an end to US aid abroad and UNWRA would make the Co's presence useless, more so if there were no Palestinians in the strip, unless it were needed to protect US interests or act as a [US] proxy force for Israel & the US.

maybe it’s best to play MUTE where Trump and his team are involved. Trumps likes a response so maybe it’s best not to give it to him and play according to his rules. When you are walking along a road and a dog is inside the gate of a house barking viciously at you- while staying inside the gate - you will just walk on as if nothing is going on. But if you get involved withthe dog you are potentially asking for trouble

Mmmmm…stupid people supporting stupid nonsense, because they think some imaginary foe that they've never met will get hurt in some way, and then they wonder how their own lives became worse somehow.

If there's anything that I've learned in the last ten years of watching politics, especially in the US and the UK, is that there is an abundance of people that are wholeheartedly committed to voting against their own best interests if someone else can get disenfranchised or damaged to some degree. Their childish politics revolves around getting digs in and being against something, rather than before for anything. Anything worthwhile anyway.

They are the reasons why you have the likes of Trump and his cronies in power in the US and why Britain is in the doldrums now. The rest of Europe would do well to take note.

So let me get this straight. You don't care what he says, but you will certainly be outraged when it does happen?

Have I got that right? The fact that he held a joint press conference with Netanyahu would suggest that he is serious, but your current position is that this is all just kite flying. Deep down, hidden away, are the real plans, and in the end, he will go back on his deal with Natenyhu and secure a future for Palestinians within Gaza and the wider area.

We also have the fact that he moved the embassy last term and said during the election campaign that the only issue he had with Isreal was they should get it over with quicker. But you are ignoring all of that on the basis that Trump is too stupid/lazy to actually get it done.

If you wish for the Palestinian people to remain in Gaza whilst any amount of toxic chemicals are disposed of safely, great- you’ve just sentenced even more to death. That’s just daft.

As to where all of this waste will be dumped, I shudder to think whose doorstep it will land.

The solution of rebuilding Gaza will have to incorporate the temporary housing of Palestinians elsewhere - that’s just a fact. The mechanism as to how they return to their lands gradually as new buildings are constructed - that’s the big question - because whoever is building this new city will have a lot of control - you’ve heard Trumps “solution” - what’s yours?

People need to realise that this Gaza policy is just one of many that will emerge over the next four years. This is only the beginning. By 2029, the world will be transformed. And not in a good way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,583 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Trump has made it clear that he wants Palestinians to permanently leave. That's ethnic cleansing. The fact you're trying to sanitize his remarks is bizarre.

Monsters no - incompetent yes. External grand standing with no outcome is not something that is going to address the domestic issues of which there are many.

I’m not sanitising anything - I’m being a lot more realistic than most on this thread. Trumps “solution” is unworkable and it will simply lead to more war and death - it’s not worth giving it any consideration - but at some point decisions will have to be made if agreement is to be reached on the rebuilding of Gaza - where do displaced Palestinians go temporarily? How do they return? What guarantees are there ? What will be built? How will it be funded? What control will Israel, US, Middle East etc have in this process? How will peace be maintained? I’d much prefer discussing those issues than a half baked idea that will just lead to more war

All of your words- I haven’t said any of that rubbish. Show me a bulldozer on Gaza tomorrow morning clearing rubble to lay foundations for a skyscraper and I’ll show you the bombs and the guns directed at the driver in the cab- Trump will not lay one brick in Gaza without a war happening if trying to implement his current proposal

But therein lies the issue Oscar; the mechanism as to how they return to their lands gradually, will never be allowed to happen. Trump's "solution" isn't a solution for that at all, and so long as Israel have the backing of the US, which they clearly do under Trump, the displaced Palestinian people will never, ever be allowed to return to the region.

There won't be any negotiations or plans by other nations as to how Palestinians can return to the region when it's rebuilt or otherwise. Other nations couldn't even get Israel to stop bombing the region and knowingly killing Palestinian civilians/refugees in the first place, there's no way they're going to be able to negotiate any kind of proposed reintegration for displaced Palestinians back to the region.

It's why others are pointing out that such discussions are entirely moot; what has happened is an ethnic cleansing of the region by Israel with the backing of the US (both under Biden and under Trump). Trump may have a "solution" to control or otherwise redevelop the region, but in no way, shape or form will that include provisions for establishing repopulation (or part thereof) by Palestinian people. Wherever Trump et al force Palestinians to relocate to, is where they'll be expected to stay.
