Another boring Monaco GP, basically won in quali.

    Delighted for Le Clerc though.

I disagree. I think Monaco should be the very first race of the season. If you think of it the cars only get faster as the season goes on and then they have to slow down for Monaco. Put it as the first race makes sense.

I missed the race but it sounded as boring as usual. At some stage they will have to change either the track or the format of this GP.

Or the time of the season that it is on. Like I said above make Monaco the first race of the season that would be perfect.

Ironic that someone who moans about how boring most races are, wants to keep the most boring race on the calendar.

Makes no odds if it's first or last, it's a crap race. Qualifying is the only interesting part of it generally.

There isn't one race that's an absolute classic Every Single Year. Last year's Silverstone for example was a dull affair. A points scoring time trial makes a change that's welcome every now and then.

    This too shall pass.

Absolute load of bollix. I missed the race due to other commitments. Avoided social media and news sites all day. Stayed up till 22:30 because tv schedule showed the Monaco F1 highlites would be on. But no, Indy 500 on while the programming still shows it should be F1. So now im going to read this thread from the start to at least get some sort of running commentary. Still dont know the results as I type this.

Just watched race on catch up. That was a dull race. Great to see Leclerc win though.

Am I going mad, or did the top 10 finish as they started?

Race was devoid of thrills alright but it was still interesting in terms of the strategies adopted by the different teams.

It remains the most glamorous GP and the one all the drivers want to win so I don’t think it’s going to move from its early summer schedule any time soon.

First race too early in the year for the Cote d'Azur.

Can't move the event to another time because all the infrastructure on the main straight is temporary and needs to be used for 3 separate events. The Formula E race, the Classic Meet and the F1 weekend. So basically it gets built, gets left up for just over a month and then gets broken down again until next year.

    This too shall pass.

    What's the Cote d'Azur?

"Ironic that someone who moans about how boring most races are, wants to keep the most boring race on the calendar."

I never moan about races being boring often. There is other people in here who moan about it a lot more than me.

    I love F1.

Makes no odds if it's first or last, it's a crap race. Qualifying is the only interesting part of it generally

Actually according to another post above it does.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Monaco lap times have pretty much dropped by five seconds per decade since the 70s, with short straights it's at a point where no one car can be proportionally fast enough to outpace the other here.

On the flip side it's nice to see a qualifying that matters. How many times has Charles started ahead of Max when you just knew it to be ceremonial as the RB will stroll home on race pace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,760 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Sergio Perez, while the accident wasn't his fault, the Street Racer specialist qualifying so low he was down with the Haas's to begin with was. He's now dropped to 4th in the standings and Ferrari are only 24 points behind Red Bull after 8 rounds. Riccardo isn't faring much better at V-caRB so maybe it's time to just put Tsnouda in the Red Bull and Checo/ Lawson in the junior team.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,819 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Can't see them putting Tsnouda in senior team as they moving on from honda.

It Pains me to say it but Ricciardo is just a seat blocker at this stage. Not getting the job done. It's very odd but results don't lie.

Put lawson in ricciardo seat now and move him up to redbull for 2025 if he looks good.

I did then. Suppose after the first lap there was not much to show anyways.

    5th

Also, happy for Albon to get Williams' first points of the season, after a bunch of very tough race weekends for the team.

And I missed Gunther's reaction (I know he isnt there anymore, but miss him being there) at Haas when both their cars got taken out. Wouldve been gold. "**** hell".

One again another crap Monaco race. Why on earth this race is on the calender still is beyond me. 1 overtake i think in the whole race. That's right. 1. Purposely recorded it and and stuck it on after it finished to allow me to fast forward pretty much most of the race.

Anyway, delighted for Charles. I fully expect normal service to resume in Canada and Max to stamp is authority. With a bit of luck anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,303 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

There was definitely more than 1. Stroll went past Zhou and Sargent, and Bottas had 1 overtake also. But still rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,189 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Must have missed them. I honestly can't think of a reason this race is still on the calender.

If they insist on having this race then revamp it. Maybe say drivers must use all 3 choice of tyres. Or instead of the race, change it up to a quali type style of race.

Anyway, thankfully that shitshow is done with and we can get back to normal service. I'm not saying their won't be other **** races throughout the year, there will be. But at least we'll get to see some more action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,258 ✭✭✭✭klose

The race layout itself is literally impossible to change or am I wrong? Unless you removed the chicane out of the tunnel and widened the track there maybe you could get overtakes there?

Anyways, it’s never gonna leave, too much money on display there, it’s a showcase worldwide for F1.

1 shot qualifying and mandatory two stops would be good ideas, but that’s them publicly admitting the race itself is a busted flush and needs bells and whistles to make it somewhat interesting.

Or maybe go back to the old school of quali where for an hour, it's all in, all drivers. Not split in to 3 parts like it is.

I don't know. Surely there must be something. The format of the track can't be changed. That is basically all of Moncao they are racing around.

You're right. It'll be on the calender forever because of the wealth on show. It's ridiculous anyway in this day and age. I don't give two flying fcuks for super yachts and gucci bags on show. I watch F1 for the cars, drivers and engineering on show

In the post race interviews Max and George were joking about 5 mandatory pit stops or bringing back refueling, or a nap break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,602 ✭✭✭Harika

After the Perez/Haas torpedo, the only highlight was Mercedes/Hamilton screwing up a pitstop undercut attempt, and throwing Russell in front of the bus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,833 ✭✭✭quokula

There have been many great races at Monaco, even in the last couple of years. Yes, this wasn’t one of them. That’s entirely due to the red flag though.

Between Russell nursing his medium tyres to the end and everyone in front trying to make sure there wasn’t too big a gap to him, they were running up to 10 seconds off the pace which was the biggest problem and why Max and others were complaining. If they were driving close to the limit, even without overtaking Monaco is spectacular, as we saw on Saturday.

But imagine the exact same race without the red flag, all of the top four running incredibly close and all of them requiring mandatory pit stops where the undercut is so powerful but traffic can destroy your race. All of them pushing much harder because they wouldn’t be nursing tyres to the end and they’d be trying to create a gap to Russell (who himself would be going faster to maximise the hard tyre strategy) rather than trying to minimise it. Any of the top cars could have won it and it could have been a fantastic strategic race.

We didn’t get that of course but it’s a knee jerk reaction to call for the track to be scrapped. What we really need is Pirelli to turn up with some properly soft tyres that require two or three pitstops to make it to the end without anything being mandatory.

I enjoy a good tactical race and I’ll often take it over some other circuits where DRS drive bys are so trivial that it doesn’t matter what anyone does the fastest car always finds its way to the front. Monaco, as a one off race on the calendar, fits the bill well when it comes together. It sadly didn’t this year though.

All they need is sprinklers/hoses. Tie them up to a randomised trigger with a ~30% chance of turning on for 10 minutes and watch the entertainment ensue.

Or change the pitstop rules for Monaco, three stops minimum, only the softest tyres are allowed be used. F2 have a specific qualifying format for Monaco so why not allow F1 to have rules specific for Monaco to encourage more opportunity for strategy.

If this showed anything, it is that the current crop of F1 cars, and their sheer size now, just does not fully belong in Monaco.

It will never leave the F1 schedule though, it will always be there.

According to Sky Sports finest tabloid "journalist" Craig Slater.

    This too shall pass.

In favour of who? Doohan or Schumacher?

Saw on Reddit that Icon hit Gasly going up the hill as well, just after the Perez crash. He was really not on the ball.
