It's race week! And we're off to Monaco.

Key times (all Irish times):

• FP1: Friday @ 12:30
• FP2: Friday @ 16:00
• FP3: Saturday @ 11:30
• Quali: Saturday @ 15:00
• Race: Sunday @ 14:00

Scrap this stupid race. With the exception of Saturday it is a procession of cars going around for whatever amount of laps in the same order.

And that's before i get on to how proposporous the whole "event" is

I have no problem with street tracks, as long as you have the ability to pass on track. I remember vaguely watching a Monaco race, it must be 10/15 years ago maybe where the leader (can't recall who) literally backed the whole pack up as he was protecting his tyres. Farce

No it was not his tyres Daniel was protecting there his ERS I think had gone and he was under a lot of pressure from behind. That was one of the better Monaco races.

Yeah it was Monaco, because Friday was like some sort of public holiday. Thankfully they got back to normal running on a Friday a few years back now.

It was actually the Thursday that is a holiday (Ascension Day) so running on Thurs-Sat-Sun meant they could hold the GP weekend without closing the roads on a business day. If you visited Monaco on the Friday the roads were open and you could drive a lap of the circuit. The Monaco GP hasn't been held on Ascension for many years now though, so it was just kept as a tradition.

Same. I've only discovered his videos recently. He can be a bit shilly sometimes and fires our rumours without much backing, but the actual behind the scenes stuff is fascinating.

Interesting that the booking are more sceptical wth their odds for the race. Usually Max is long odds on before every weekend to win but only slightly odds on with Lando and Chales both joint second favs.

I have a suspicion for Charles this weekend. FP1 should give some indication about who looks strong.

Regardless, you'll need to qualify in first 2 to have any chance. We know Max will fill 1 of them 2 spots.

Well that’s true but there’s always the possibility that something unusual will happen.

I remember watching the 1982 Monaco GP which was the only one of the season that RTE used to cover. Derek Daly had recently signed for Williams as replacement for Carlos Reuteman and there was genuine belief within the motor racing community that he could be a race winner.

Anyway, race was pretty boring for the most part and it was looking like another win for Prost in his Renault. With about 5 laps to go, the rain came, Prost crashed and chaos ensued. There were at least three race leaders from then on including Daly who led for such a brief time that he wasn’t even picked up by the cameras.

Very entertaining finish and a great lesson in watching a race in full in the (increasingly forlorn, admittedly) hope that something exciting might happen.

BTW, Daly never did win a race. His teammate Keke Rosberg went on to win the championship despite winning only a single Grand Prix. It was a tragic season with the death of Gilles Villeneuve and Ricardo Paletti, while Didier Pironi suffered injuries that ended his career.

Hadjar at full speed nearly hit the left rear of Miyata as he was crawling through the tunnel.

Great handling by Hadjar to miss that.
