42-15 win for nenagh. Total dominance. Across so much of game. 5 tries to 2.

Armagh impressive against cookies. Who will be frustrated with their performance espec penalty count. Good game. Thought crowd poor enough though.

Lansdowne beat sligo 76-12 in Bateman cup semi last night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭FtD v2

They could have scored 100 tbh. Incredibly one sided game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Not there only reporting score but no surprise even with lansdowne not setting ail alight. They're in 1a while sligo not doing best jn 2b.

    Anyone at a game today?

Corinthians struggling without a lot of their academy talent, Sean Naughton in particular I'd say. Watched a decent bit of the Cashel game and while they played lots of good rugby, they really lacked control from 10.

Wouldn't say struggling without them. Not doing as well but playing Cashel very different to a lot of the teams they'll have played before that

Last round before Christmas. 1st of back to backs

2 games tonight. Corinthians buccs and lansdowne Mary's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,655 ✭✭✭typhoony

Enjoyable games to watch, used to go to AIL games years ago but it was dour stuff. Would be tempted to start going again. In last night's game the 2 Leinster guys playing for Lansdowne were average enough. Lansdowne had the forward power but the St Mary's backs kept taking them apart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,067 ✭✭✭Norrie Rugger Head

After the last near decade of 1b, potentially having to book a final weekend trip to Dublin was not in my plans.

Hope Mary's can keep it up

Popped into Naas on the way back from Kildare Village yesterday for the first half of Naas Belvo. Belvo look great. Caught one of their names earlier in the year aswell, lots of offloads from the whole team and they have a very good back line.

The Bateman final between Instonians and Lansdowne tomorrow is being streamed on the link above

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 rugbynonce

lansdowne should win this comfortably. Instonians have 1 ex professional and no Academy lads versus Lansdownes team of recent professionals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,529 ✭✭✭theVersatile

Instonians have multiple ex pros - Schalk van Der Merwe involved as well as Whitten³.

I'd say Lansdowne to win but nothing comfortable about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

I would guess lansdowne will win this comfortably bit not because of pros involvement more they're a division 1 a side albeit not doing their best and tbf club game is lot more than just the guys who may have had some pro rugby experience.

Lansdowne 14 12 Instonians at half time.

    Lansdowne win 38-26.

Belfast Harlequins beat tullamore 17-16 in their 2C game rescheduled from before christmas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 rugbynonce

Lansdowne had to work for the win. Not ao comfortable. Enjoyed the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭Stainalert

Tough game against Instonians - no real surprise , they have been very competitive against other 1A & 1B teams hence their qualification for the Bateman final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 rugbynonce

any games been called off tomorrow? See Cashel v Barnhall is off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Rainey Clogher Valley and navan ballymena also off

    Anyone at a game.

Mary's lead 1A by 2. Though tarf with game in hand. Con and nure just 1 and 2 further back. Hinch cookies and lansdowne all close together in mid table with big gap of 11 from lansdowne to Armagh in 8th. Armagh 3 ahead of ucd who are 5 clear of garryowen at bottom. Tarf and armagh game won't be played until after round 14. At this stage think top 4 likely to stay same with garryowen to be relegated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

In 1B Belvedere had a big scare in thomond narrowly winning by 2 against struggling Shannon even though up by 14 half time but widened the gap to Nenagh in 2nd who lost in naas. Wesley win in Trinity means gap to nenagh down to 6. Wesley 6 clear ofBlackrock in 4th with things very close for final promotion playoff spot. Ucc in 5th just point behind. At bottom Shannon struggling in a big way. They're on 13 with Highfield on 16 and Trinity on 20.

In 2A instonians lead Corinthians by a point with a game in hand. Stones in 3rd with barnhall in final playoff spot. Cashel 4 off barnhall and will most likely be between those sides for the 3 playoff spots. Buccs still conceding big scores at bottom every week. Ballymena 8 off Crescent for relegation playoff spot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Wanderers looking strong in 2B. 7 clear of Dungannon who have 8 points on Clogher Valley who have game in hand. Tight for final promotion spots with 4 points between 3rd and 7th. Sligo and malahide at bottom 8 adrift of safety

Midleton lost their unbeaten record in clonmel so their lead down to 3. Ballyclare are 2nd and have game in hand.dolphin and clonmel make up remaining playoff positions with enniscorthy just on their tails.omagh in the relegation spot to junior ranks with tullamore in spot for playoff with 2nd in round robin. Bruff 4 clear of tullamore with big gap of 11 to 7th

Belvo losing 2 players to Ireland 20s will be a loss, especially Wisniewski.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭Quitelife

AIL coverage very poor on the papers and tv , all the different stories across the 5 divisions ,there should be a game on tv each week of the AIL and a round up program . There’s sixty teams across the 5 divisions all over the island , the likes of young Munster v Clontarf next round ,Old Belvedre v Old Wesley the following week could be marketed easily with all the interest in rugby.
PS Young Munster may well be the only Limerick team in top division next year , a far cry from 20 years ago when Limerick clubs dominated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Bit of a loss but there'll be a few other sides losing players as well. And some of them losing few more than 2 players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

A game on tv a week is bit of a stretch. But against the head or something similar on another channel should be through the season and longer to show more of AIL. Cookies could be joined by nenagh as they're looking very strong and another north munster side is still a good thing. So much changed in limerick as 20 years ago top players from nenagh, bruff, cashel, clonmel headed to play with Limerick clubs to play senior. They don't need do that any more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭bingobango12

Yep spot on. Think Wesley are losing 5. Was surprised to see that many from a 1B team. Also shocked that there are more players from 1B clubs than 1A but as a Belvo man it's great to see.

Huge slip by Nenagh to close the gap. Naas a tough place to go but you'd have backed them to win it.

Belvo struggling with props and other injuries and availabilities at the moment. Yesterday was a chopped and changed team from what we've seen in the league this year.

    Missing a starting LH, Number 8, 9 and 10.

Queens playing Exeter Uni in a ‘BUCS seeding fixture’ in March with a view to joining the BUCS structure. Does anyone know if this will be Queens exiting AIL or will it be a 2s team playing BUCS?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Were you at the game? I see Jarrad Butler was playing for Wegians. Good to see them turn it around after a poor start to the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Yeah saw some of game. They played like they had for most of season except finished strong unlike most games when they switched off/let opposition taie the win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭bingobango12

Pretty poor game between Belvo and Wesley today, weather was bad for the majority of it but Belvo just about won it 13-10. Bad miss by the Wesley 10 in front of the posts around 35 yards out to make it 13-13 with 10 minutes to play.

Belvo 11 points clear of Nenagh with 4 games to go and they play each other next game week. Any kind of win and it will be fairly certain Belvo are promoted.
