I'm sorry even if true that is no excuse, have you seen some of the bile from her?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,158 ✭✭✭✭tom1ie

Dare I ask what her version of the truth of WW2 is?

I know yeah, poor Gemma sure she’s only tormenting the mother of a young man who died suddenly.
And sure 20 attempts by the Gardai to bring her to court is just bullying I say.
Poor Gemma. Sure she’s just misunderstood.

Yes, she's certainly severely lacking in compassion. Well observed.

Firstly I've to say I'm not in her camp.

On the legal end of things it's funny, we didn't scrap legal precedent from when we gained independence. Look at this example: https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-30501156.html #

The Holocaust never happened and is a myth pushed by "The Jews". Also Hitler was misunderstood or something.

Honestly, I'm not sure if she's trolling, actually believes that nonsense or has had some sort of mental breakdown.

Once upon a time she actually was a good journalist. It's been a steady downward trajectory for the past 8 years or so that keeps plumbing new lows. In terms of shock value she's reached the end of the line now though. She's basically run out of road.

as I understand it she just went a bit mad after her husband died suddenly. It’s totally understandable and I absolutely feel so sorry for her that it happened it’s awful for anyone.

But you can’t excuse her treating this mother as she has considering Gemma of all people knows what it’s like to have a loved one suddenly pass away.

I think that’s the most sickening part of this— she’s so lost in her farce someone suffering much like she did means nothing to Gemma and she’s still happy to poke at this poor woman anyway possible.

I mean Gemma is the subject of a high court order demanding her not to come next or near or attempt to contact the mother directly or indirectly. It would make you wonder tbh.

In a way I would agree that she needs a good bloody arm around her shoulder, but at the same time is there no-one in her orbit that would take her to one side. Or maybe it speaks of the people who she appeals to.

Hitler is amazingly brilliant and Holocaust never happened.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

She's an extremist hatemonger lacking any compassion at all for others. Her hatemongering has caused so much harm, chaos, hurt and distress in Ireland.

He is hardly in a "hole", getting bed and board and we're all paying for it.

No chance of jailing people who attack people and they running around with multiple convictions under their belts, no? Just jail easy targets who offend peoples' sensibilities.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,940 ✭✭✭Gregor Samsa

You're obviously not aware of the circumstances surrounding both O'Doherty and Burke's legal woes.

Neither case involves jailing people for "offending people's sensibilities".

Both cases involve contempt of court for refusing to adhere to a Court Order.

Targeting a bereaved mother in her extreme hate filled publication isn't "offending sensibilities" - It's harassment

…so whats wrong with you, the fact you re wishing such a thing on someone?

by god will someone just step up and help this woman, theres clearly some psychological issues going on here!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,724 ✭✭✭growleaves

If you think she is mentally ill (you said she needed a psychiatric evaluation) why would you be gloating at her criminal trial?

It seems strange to me that you're regarding her simultaneously as a hateful figure and a sick woman. Is this coherent or defensible?

She can engage with psychiatric treatment any time she wants to. She doesn't

Psychiatric issues are not a get-out from responsibility.

I want to see her spend time behind bars, be that in Dochas or Portrane is up to a psychiatrist to decide.

Psychiatrist may decide that she's entire insane and just a hateful witch.

    What utter nonsense.

She's a grown woman and fully in control of herself. She's a hateful menace and she deserves everything she gets.

She needs to be in a cell, for her protection and others. Whether that is padded or not is up to the professionals.

Yeah but many Boardsies love the prospect of a good pile on with no consequences, mods and all. So she's there to be taken.

That might be true, or maybe not. She's no spring chick. She lived many years without appearing to be deranged like she does now. Is it likely that somebody changes their personalty like that over a few years?

Conditions like Alzheimer's can cause personalities to change over a short period of time. Now I very much doubt she has Alzheimer's, but I wonder if there are other conditions that can do similar. I don't know and I'd be just as uneasy diagnosing her as I would be assuming she has the faculties to consider her obviously irrational behaviour.

I agree her opinions are rubbish and her behaviour is unacceptable. I feel sorry for anybody who finds themselves on the receiving end of her ranting and raving. But I also feel sorry for her family. I shiver to think what it would be like if a relative of mine become unhinged like that.

Maybe I'm just getting old :)

She's been spouting deranged nonsense for several years now. Age has nothing to do with it.

The "psychological issues" defence is a rather weak one, I'm afraid. Her defenders will have to do better.

Ultimately I feel sorry for her but she should be held accountable for her extremist hatemongering. The abuse a Garda got over her was off the scale. The abuse she has given Muslims, Refugees, Public Workers (library workers, gardai, health care workers, retail workers), LGBT people is off the scale. She has destroyed some peoples lives. There's consequences to all of her extremist hatemongering abusive behaviour.

There's another particularly contemptible things that she did a few years ago, that I don't believe was mentioned in this thread so far.

She found a picture of a bunch of 6 year-olds in Longford taken at their school - just a regular class picture at the end of the year with their teacher, that was presumably up on the school website or facebook page. There happened to be a lot of children of colour in this one particular class and so she plastered it all over her social media using this an example of "The Great Replacement".

It was then picked up by far-right types in America and other countries so that this harmless picture of these innocent little boys was suddenly being weaponised by international hate-mongers in their proaganda.

There's a lot of people hand waving about her actions in this thread. Presumably some of you are parents yourselves. I'm sure you wouldn't be very happy if this was a picture of your son or daughter being used in this callous way.
