Google account password

I have a password for my Google account. It's been saved on all my devices, and I don't need to type it in when I want to access my Gmail, drive, photos, etc.

Because this password has been stored somewhere on all my devices, and I don't need to type in everytime, I forgot it.

Is there a way to retrieve it? I followed the tips that I found in the internet for Firefox (click the menu item top right, select 'password'), and I have found a list of accounts and passwords, but not the google one.

Any idea? Thanks!

If you use FF to access you g account and it does not ask for pass, then it must be stored within FF

Same apply to any other browser

Or perhaps you use some third party pass manager...

I use FF on the desktop and laptopo PC, and then I have an android phone. None of them asks me for password. They certainly have it stored somewhere. I would like to know what this password is because I forgot it.

It seems that I can only set a new password instead. Thanks!

What phone have you got? Normally the passwords are stored within the phone browser etc.

You may be logged into YouTube with the same username/password, if you can find that one on the list.

No, unfortunately YouTube isn't in the list of my account. I presume that it counted in the same google account.

No, I have no third party password manager. As far as I know, all passwords are managed by firefox (or Chrome on my phone).

Not sure on the redmi but samsung do their own samsung pass for passwords etc so have a look in the settings on your phone and see if there is anything there.

Not necessarily. Google does not log you out if you actively use it. I have Gmail and Google calendar tabs open basically permanently, and I can't remember the last time I had to log in (unless I was accessing something like security options, which requires re-authentication).

@Irish Stones, if you open a private window in Firefox (Ctrl+Shift+P), and go to mail.google.com, does your username/password get prefilled? If not, then the browser does not have your password - it just has a token which allows you to stay logged in. It will keep refreshing that token as long as you have a Google tab open, but if you're away too long, the token will expire and you'll be logged out.

Open a private window again and go to accounts.google.com. Enter your username and try "Forgot password". Depending on your recovery options, you might be able to reset the password that way.

No, I don't. I never have to log in Google world, on any PC, even those I haven't used for some time.

I don't know how long, and I wouldn't recommend pushing it.

Unless one of your devices specifically store the password (e.g. in the Firefox settings you already checked), you can't retrieve your password. Even Google can't retrieve your password - they don't store it, they store what's called a "hash". That's a one-way function: if your password was originally "secret123", they will store it as "5d7845ac6ee7cfffafc5fe5f35cf666d". "secret123" can always be easily converted to that value, but it's not possible to convert that value back to "secret123". "secret123" won't ever be stored anywhere by Google

The hashed password? No, that's stored server-side. The token that I previously mentioned that keeps them logged in (which isn't the same thing) is stored client-side, and yes, that would be in cookies or localStorage, and could be lost if the browser data is cleared, depending on exact settings

That's the reason why certain websites seem to lose your password after deleting the cache, but this is not the case of Google it seems.

Hi, Similar topic but mine is in relation to the 2 factor authentication. I have alot of passwords saved on my google chrome account and when the computer is logged in all I need is the computer password. The 2 factor identifictaion works for everything else but this defaults to the PC password. Is there a way to change this or a better way to save passwords for google chrome?

I use the ProtonPass Chrome extension for managing my passwords. It's a free password manager that I find convenient to use across my devices, including my Android phone.

Yes, I tried that before. A list of websites where I registered with appears, but Google isn't among them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have added this now but not sure how it works. Does it request to sign into Proton Pass once you log into the different website's or does it just have the information there automatically?
