Neighbour has intrusive cctv cameras

So the next door neighbour last year installed a number of cctv cameras that are very intrusive. 3 of them are at gutter height and cover all my front and year garden. Camera at the end of his garden pointed upwards right into my kitchen and daughter’s bedroom. I don’t think it’s anything sinister but he’s just being a knob.

The guards say it’s a data issue but the data protection commission isn’t willing to get involved.

Trees wouldn’t help because the cameras are so high up.

Any advice?

I can't see any solutions besides installing your own cameras and pointing them right back at his house, I know it's a childish thing to do but you'll be giving him a taste of his own medicine.

I know you've already tried OP but I'd get back on to the Data Protection Commission and push the issue, keep sending emails until you get a specific reason as to why they won't do anything.

Their own website warns people about having CCTV that covers outside of the perimeter of their property. They also say they can take action in cases where this occurs.

So I wouldn't let them fob you off so easily until you have a specific reason/perhaps stated in an email as to why they're not interested.

I would be hounding the data protection commissioner or get a solicitor involved he sounds like a right creep.

The camera at the end of the garden, what height is it fitted? The ones at gutter level I would imagine are pointing to the gardens front and rear fitted to the soffit?

Thanks. I’ve done this. They’ve said they’re satisfied there’s no data breach but they won’t outline the steps they took to confirm this. I suspect they may have just accepted his word that he wasn’t capturing data. I’ve pressed them on this and even sent a solicitor’s letter but they won’t budge. I considered contacting the public sector ombudsman but the DPC is an exempt body.

If, these are pointed right at your property, you might want to consider a very narrow beam spotlight pointed straight into the camera, that would neutralise most of it's imaging abilities.

My guess is they are not connected to anything and he's just enjoying being a bully.

People like that are not worth arguing with.

If you cross paths just ask if he enjoys perving on young girls with his CCTV.

But if you allow it affect you, he wins.

At the very tip of a pitched rear lane garage. I’d say about 12 feet but the angle is part of the problem. It’s pitched upwards for greater coverage.

That is a pain in the arse ok, the ones on the soffits I doubt you can do anything about but as said earlier you could point something at the garage one to inhibit it from seeing into your property.

Yeah but during summer it would be nice to have a drink in the back garden without being under surveillance.

Did both. The Data Protection Commission have been particularly unhelpful.

Two choices, let him know that it appears the camera is pointed at your daughter's bedroom and could he turn it away from the house. If that doesn't work then back to the gardai and reiterate that he has a video camera pointed in your young daughters window. You don't care about the others but it appears that he is trying to film a child. Might be worth heading to the residence committee is there is one to point it out.
