Yeah but that result has glossed over a good few things. France are terrible this year. Beat a poor Italy team on the day. Very suspect against a young Wales team and completely humbled against England today. A close scoreboard but that did not reflect the English dominance today.

The galling fact is once again when pressure comes on an Irish team they crumble. It’s a flaw in our national dna and I don’t think it will ever change. That’s the hardest part to take. When you think they are learning and moving on they just completely crumble.

The 6/2 split really wasn't the issue. We've seen it pay dividends in the France game.

England's tactics of fast up defence, an excellent pack performance and quick transition attacks to catch us short in defence, is what won them the game.

How he still hasn't gotten to grips with it after the WC is baffling

Jackman & Ferris complaining about the poor lineout too.

It has been a shambles for a year now yet nothing done about it...

RTE panel waffling on about why we lost. Would be nice to hear even one of them say “ Connor Murray shouldn’t have kicked the fkucn ball away with two minutes left “

Honestly you are either a trolling or an actual bigot, you think the Irish are genetically predisposed to losing?

By any objective measure this team is outperforming their ability. You think rugby in Ireland has the resources or depth of England, france, nz or France? It's not even close.

The funny thing is Ireland probably have the championship wrapped up now, so should be celebrating, but too wary of Scotland.

It's baffling how he got the job in the first place and then when it was plain to see he wasn't up to it he was kept in the job!!!!

Even the best teams lose. England were very good today won by 1 point at the death.

Its sport. Doesn't make Ireland poor or over rated.

Disappointing lack of belief to try and run the clock down. Looked panicked from the off, didn't kick for the corner once. Murray crap as usual.

Piardi was dreadful today as AR. Missed foot in touch and England scored straight after. Lineout in England's 22, Chessum blatantly changes his bind forcing us to go wide and we knocked on. Blatant forward pass in one of England's last attacks.

Don't get me started on POM. Anonymous all game and criminal penalty & YC.

Why not get it to Lowe at the end and bomb it down to their 22. Murray seriously needs to be put out to pasture.

Thought front row was quiet. Doris mediocre. JvdF had a great first half.

Crowley will be disappointed. Earlier try gave him a sighter and he missed in the same way.

But credit to England. They raised their game and made easy yards.

A championship 🏆 is still a worthy achievement especially in an even year.

A bigot would you get a grip! It’s a national hang up and if you can’t see that that’s on you.

Ireland punch above their weight, no issue with that statement. They also have good players in the starting 15 and back up players. However it is fair to say that when the pressure really comes on, 9 times out of 10 they crumble. It is not trolling to talk about this. The worst thing in any situation is to not learn lessons. A very similar performance today as the NZ World Cup defeat. Same tactics performed ie losing the gap at lineout, up fast. They need to be learning from that.

You would on here how many actually played competitive sport of any kind. We were beaten by a better side on the day. Soak it up,get on with it and focus on the next match. Mind you I would question Murray's kick......a Munster man should know how to put it up the jumper.

  • Registered Users Posts: 672 ✭✭✭blackvalley

What cost is the game was Connor Murray handing the ball back to England with two minutes to go.

  • Registered Users Posts: 368 ✭✭MeisterG

but it really was - England went wider earlier, over the top earlier. 6-2 makes sense in a rugby culture where players can play 12s and 7s and 2s with relative ease. We had to switch our pacemaker (JGP into Murray) cos of 6-2.

Don't think there was anyone who was watching who didn't know the game was over as soon as he kicked it out. I was fuming. Poor decision making.

Completely humbled??? By a last second drop goal??? Really???

Can't believe yet that Murray didn't learn the lesson. That box kick of the ball...I was roaring at the telly.

Fair play England, played out of their skins and it was enough to beat a team that just completely lost their way.

We had the winnng of it in the end but Murray unfortunately bottled it. O’Mahony was gone off, Sexton who I always felt was relied on too heavily for too long but a leadership decision needed to be made there. Keep the ball for a few phases until the clock went red. Instead they just gave the ball back to England hoping that they wouldn’t be good enough to use it. Trusted to luck instead of backing ourselves to keep hold of that ball and grind it out.

Well they couldn't crumble 9 times out of 10 when they've won 20 games from 22. This was a million times worse than the NZL performance, with the NZL performance we'd have won today without question.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,652 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

The old adage '' when you have the ball they can't score ''. All on Murray.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,943 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Murray should have kicked better, but I doubt we could have kept the ball for another two minutes. England would eventually have gotten into a position to poach or the referee would have narrowed his focus on sealing off and probably pinged us for that.

Kicking was the right decision, but Murray executed poorly. It's noticeable that JGP got an extra 5 or 10 metres on all his kicks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,495 ✭✭✭Shehal

20 wins from 22 would indicate Ireland are nor "outperforming their ability" and are exactly where they are. At the end of the day Ireland will still win back to back 6N and England/France will win nothing, doesnt say much about their supposed ability does it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭A-Train

I agree with your point about the NZ performance and today.

Just massively disappointed like everyone and venting. Time to put down the phone and open a beer.

They clearly changed things at the start of the 6N when the lineout was flawless. But a basic tactic is only going to work for a limited time.

There aren't many teams winning 100% of their lineouts these days.

On an unrelated note, Smith will get the plaudits for the DG at the end but with an easy penalty advantage they should have been more ambitious and gone for the TBP.
