I'm not sure this is the right place to ask but it seemed like the people here would have the most experience.

I use a fair number of blanks with my hilti DX2 for my job and I was considering just stocking up on blanks in bulk, you can get a box of 10k of them for around 200 euro plus shipping from China which is a pretty massive saving over buying them here. Normally I just buy them in town but they ran out like a month ago and still haven't gotten a new shipment plus they always price gouge, over 50 euro for a box of a 100!

Would I run into many issues getting them shipped here or should I just find another store somewhere else that doesn't rip me off?

It's not the same as blanks for a blank firing replica. Those use a cartridge based blank designed in the chambering of the caliber of the blank firing gun and the firearm act says any component part of a round (bullet to Joe public) is the same as the whole round.

Also blank firing replicas require authorisation to possess and own not to mention to buy said blanks. I highly doubt every chippy or tradesman with a nail gun has this authorisation nor do they need it.

As such the issue would not be a firearm related query and so odd or tentative is the link to blank firing guns that you may not get a clear and definitive answer.

To that end I cannot see a route to apply for these blanks as it would pertain to firearms hence, and this is opinion only and should NOT be misconstrued as legal advice, no import should be needed.

Finally, and as a caveat, you are importing an "explosive" so I'd thread lightly, carefully and legally at every step.

Your first port of call in my opinion would be the local shop where you buy them. Try and nail down (get it, nail down 😁) how they get their stock and what is required and then proceed based on what information you get.

That's fair enough, never in my life have I met a fellow worker who needed authorization, I did need to go through a training course for safe handling to use it on site though. I figured since you can just buy them in the store OTC it shouldn't be an issue with importing them.

I'll give them a call and see what they say.

I've always wondered about nail gun cartridges/blanks legally. Completely agree that there is no intention in the law to capture them in firearms legislation. But also wonder in the loose and general language in firearms law (and law in general) accidently fails to distinguish. Nail gun wildcats further muddying waters.

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

Importing could run into trouble with restrictions on the transport or courier side such as Dangerous Goods Regulations. This is already a nuisance with Lithium Ion batteries, which be bought otc here.

It was quite a tacky scene that.As usual in the US esp California[where else?] a congressman wanted to introduce a ban on" high capacity nail guns."More likely wanted to get some publicity on the back of the film I remember this so well as I was living in CA at the time when that film came out .

Would you think blank-firing nail guns are becoming a specialised tool these days,as compressed air nail guns are more the norm?
