Two updates to the Pro Tour this year

Prize money for Players Championship events increased by £25k to £125k

Disappointed that there's still nothing for first-round losers, especially now with the move to midweek PC events. I'd have much rather seen a chunk of that £25k increase go to offer even a small £250 stipend to the 64 first-round losers (so £16k total).

European Tour qualifying and seeding adjusted — no more Euro OoM, instead main and ProTour OoM form the bulk

    • Top 16 in the main OoM
    • Top 16 not-already-qualified in the ProTour OoM (used to be just the PT top 16)
    • 10 players from the Tour Card Holder qualifier (down from 24; split 18 UK, 6 EU)
    • 4 players from Host Nation qualifier (same)
    • 1 player from Nordic & Baltic qualifier (same)
    • 1 player from East Europe qualifier (same)

With the seeding based on overall ProTour OoM.

Barring any major changes from the first two PC events, this is looking to be the auto-qualified field for Belgium and the first German Euro Tour event:

    • OoM: Humphries [2], MvG [8], M Smith [11], Aspinall, Price [3], Cross [7], Noppert [10], Wright, Clayton [9], Chisnall [1], Heta [4], Cullen, DvD [5], DvdB, Dobey, Bunting
    • PT: Rock [6], R Smith [12], Ratajski [13], Anderson [14], Searle [15], Pikachu [16], Schindler, Gilding, Gurney, Wade, GvV, Joyce, Clemens, de Sousa, Dolan, Barney

Euro tour changes are awful imo. Makes the pro tour even more significant now, will be interesting to see how the move to mostly midweek pro tour affects numbers

I'm not a fan of the Euro Tour changes and I agree that it would have been better to give money to First Round losers in the pro tour. The PDC want to be a professional organisation so the players should be guaranteed some amount of money, no matter how small it is.

I don't think you deserve money for just turning up to those floor events. Say it was even £500 for 1st round defeat. That's £15k for just turning up at all 30 players championship events and throwing darts with your willie. There has to be an incentive to at least try win to get something.

The Euro Tour changes are cack. Some players have come out and said so. It's bollox to have 32 auto qualifiers. Qualification is on par with the Matchplay and Grand Prix FFS via the OoM.

Snooker instituted a £20k minimum yearly prize money a couple years back. Don't see how doing something similar for all the Tour Card holders is a bad thing (assuming you turn up to the PC's ofc).

Yes they only have 17 tournaments this year, but only one win there gives at least £3000 — darts you have 30 PCs, but one win only nets you £1000.

Would agree some sort of minimum payment would be better, especially given the majority of the Pro Tour events are now moved to midweek, so there is much less scope for a player to hold down a seperate job.

Challenge Tour gets underway today with 2 events. Five events total this weekend, usually the top few (1-3) players on the challenge tour OoM end up getting onto the opening full pro tour events as replacements for full pro tour members

I'd say there will be a lot of opportunities for challenge tour players to play on the Pro Tour considering the switch to mid-week. A lot of the top players might not bother, especially considering they have guaranteed entry to all Euro Tours after the ridiculous change for the coming season.

I've noticed that Fallon Sherrock hasn't entered.

Would you mind updating the thread title to include Euro Tour, Challenge and Development Tour please Kingp?

I was about to ask what happened between himself and Dolan. What's wrong with the venue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Cold. Apparently Humphries was feeling the chill in his hands which is why he was whitewashed by Ian White in L64, averaging only 81.37.
