4th October submitted a substitution for my .22, like for like, December no word, contacted station in December, I was informed you cannot apply for a substitution within 90 days of a renewal, which I never heard of before, was told not a legal but technical issue 🤔, received notification letter paid for renewal on 6th Dec for substitution and new licence, new licence arrived today for next 3 years 🙈,

Not even the serial number correct😡, so now the wait again maybe another 3 months if I can get hold of FO 😩

Annoying alright and I had the same with a sub when renewal was due less than 90 days!

On the wrong serial number, again that happened to me. The only thing I can say is, the application was already processed /permission granted for calibre + make / model. The new licence (with correct serial number) took no time at all (like 1 week or something). So, they processed it as an amended licence NOT a new application!

It's not a law or rule even, as you said, but PULSE has a melt down apparently when you try to sub a license if it falls within the renewal period.

So AGS recommend renewing and then subbing.

It was always my understanding that the Gardai wouldn’t process a substitution during the last 3 months on your current license.

Submitting the renewal form, waiting for the new license and then applying for the substitution isn’t an efficient procedure for what is normally a simple process.

Could you not surrender the firearm to the dealer and cancel the current license, and apply for the substitute firearm on a new application, a substitution of sorts?

Yup. The new application then has three months so in essence the same time period as the renewal.
