If you believe that no one is reading this thread. Why then did you place so many restrictions on it? Or was that the purpose, to restrict its scope to the very point that no one is going to read it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭Paterson Jerins

    True that.

But attacking posters and going way off topic seems to be necessary.

    Who polices the police?

I responded to the poster's post. I'm not exactly sure how that's attacking or offtopic - a lot of the responses afterwards however are completely offtopic.

So if everyone would like to get back to talking about the show....?

I do find it vague amusing that previously when anyone criticised Virgin Radio’s management, Peter would immediately jump in and said he would trust them as industry experts over anyone on a radio forum and yet here is questioning what station management are doing!

  • Administrators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 15,716 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Big Bag of Chips

The thread had become an incessant bitchfest. Largely nothing to do with radio.

The rules were not put in place because we thought anybody particular was reading!! 😂

So again - If you'd like to return to discussing the show...?

You are quite entitled to do so but seemingly as you hate the thread so much why are you here commenting on it? Or are you attempting to hone in and attack a particular poster? Because honestly that is what it looks like to me and I am sure others who have also read your post over the past 24 hours.

Ok as you seem to becoming agitated I will go back to discussing the show.

  • Administrators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 15,716 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Big Bag of Chips

I will go back to discussing the show.

    That'd be nice.

Sorry, that’s a completely disingenuous misrepresentation of what I said. I said I would trust their opinion in relation to judging the show on audience figures - it is not a universal endorsement of every decision they make.

But I’m quite confident you knew that.

Are you not going to reply in full and address all of my concerns re. your posts - even out of courtesy - or just be selective in your reply?

I took a not inconsiderable amount of time to reply to your points. I messaged you privately too. Do I not deserve a right of reply?

A number of posters have commented on the tone of your posts to me - are you going to dismiss all of these criticisms too?

I’ve asked for this to be moved to a separate Forum to discuss the tone of your posts if you won’t do it here and now you’re refusing that too? This hardly seems fair. The fact that a poster raised a “who polices the police” question and that another suggested this looks rather personal should be quite concerning for you.

So I’ll ask again - can you please reply in full to my post, or can we move this to a Dispute Resolution?

It shouldn't be much of an imposition, as you already know of sources who have questioned his ability. Just put a link to a few of those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭nonetheless

    Response to @dxhound2005

I am very sorry to disappoint you but it would be highly inappropriate for me and potentially very dangerous to their professional careers and opportunities if I were to identify sources within the industry that may question or have a critical view regarding Ryan Tubridy's genuine radio presentation abilities: To firstly warrant the securing of a position on a popular music radio station and then secondly to be able to at least maintain their audience.

I am sure you are quite aware that the radio scene in the UK and Ireland is very tightly knit, so it would be most disingenuous and completely inappropriate on my part to list off people within the industry who still maintain that view just to satisfy your curiosity. Very sorry.

No Ryan today sadly. Martin King instead. Not my cup of tea so I’m out.

The subject of the thread was before it changed all to do with Radio and the "exiting" the best paid RTÉ presenter on the Radio, it was mods that had the issue. No one thinks anyone is reading boards.ie, we post because we enjoy doing so.

Back to the subject of live/recorded content. The 8.35 sports news on Morning Ireland had previews of the hurling and football. Introduced as follows:

We've the first instalment of the year of Dónal Óg Cusack's Hurling Nation.

From the small ball to the big ball. Paul Flynn casts his eye over the weekend's championship games.

Nothing to indicate whether they were live or recorded. I think they were both recorded, based on my ears hearing a very small difference in the sound from that in the studio. Only when I listen to the clip with headphones. But they could have been phoned in live. Stuff like this is so common, that something slipped in by Tubridy is totally unremarkable.

It's a pity that there's no place to discuss his bookclub and that we can't discuss anything outside the radio programme. If the moderators are going to be more laissez-faire, then it would be good for the thread. His podcast is getting very big numbers across a range of platforms. Turned off Martin King too. There's only one King of Q102, and it ain't Martin.

Tubs and the gang really doing well on boards for threads there !

Overall the thread was about a Radio presenter moving on from RTÉ following a scandal, that was what the thread was about, it happened in the Radio fourm as Tubs is a Radio presenter.

Thanks I didn't know how to start a discussion, I just feel at this stage if one hasn't cropped up it might due, as you would put it, boards not being all that relevant anymore or… alternatively ???

One of the moderators on there said that he's going to immediately close any new Tubridy thread on there. I can't find the quote now, but he said it about two months, when the feedback thread was running. Wasn't on the feedback thread on the radio but was on a separate thread.

    Now you know.

If you want to start another thread on Tubridy and all his antics please do so in the appropriate forum. This forum, and this thread is to discuss his radio show

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,593 ✭✭✭hawley

The moderators on there have said that they're going to immediately close any new Tubridy thread. I can't find the quotes but it was said on a thread a few months ago.

    7:35 one I found

The go to a press conference "You need to win … "

Goes to live table results (horrible sound, phoned in)

URC - yeah I'd agree its a recording but just introduced as "here's so and so" but clearly recorded might be record he says thanks

    Mentions 8:35 bulletin about w6n

Horribly fast bulletin and very rushed, hate sports radio.

But yes on that I would agree, very hard to tell if both were live or pre-records, first sounded live and second one not so much.

With all that was said he should have been able to fit something to signify recording

Personally, I couldn't care less about recordings of interviews. I know and can tell if they have inserted a pre-recorded link or interview into their format clock schedule. As I have pointed out before, they format the hour so most if not all of those interviews are 'aired' across the bottom of the hour. Could they engineer the broadcasting of the interview segments better? Definitely!

For folks who are especially tuning in or listening to the dialogue aspect of the show, that segment should be presented without any interruptions considering those interviews rarely amount to anything over 10 minutes in duration. That very listener will lose interest and attention very quickly if the segment is suffering from added clutter.

They are presenting and impressioning the overall show to the listener as a live event, if they wish to insert pre-recorded interviews into the show at predetermined times, well in my view that is their call but the listener may or may not respect that if and when they become aware of it

What is a no- no is the presenter phoning in their links during a primetime slot, purposely not indicating or being upfront to the listener about them not being physically in the studio and pretending to be there by making pretend gestures to someone in or outside of the confines of the studio walls to make it all sound genuine and real. You need to have respect for the listener and their cognitive abilities, you lose that you're done.

Won't lose anyone who never even notices what is going on. Or doesn't care, as long as the radio keeps speaking and playing music. There is no malicious pretence involved, it's just the way radio works.

Simple question ok? Which way have VRUK's listenership figures been trending since last year?
