It is becoming increasingly likely that Tubridy will be networked across Wireless radio stations in Ireland. There are rumours of redundancies as once presenter networking is implemented it reduces the need for such at local level.

If what I am hearing is true, I sincerely hope that Wireless know what they are doing. Six months in with Tubridy and two JNLR's later, Q102's market share still trending negative.

it would make sense financially but unlikely. Certainly not in cork where PJ Coogan is around the 67,000 mark. Tubs in his current format wouldn’t maintain that. Also it almost guarantees people hopping over to Red to Neil. And 96 simply couldn’t let that happen.

(Unless Tubs was moved to Midday of course.)

To my knowledge Wireless plan to network Tubridy across breakfast. It would have to mean his exit from weekday programming at VRUK and of course that will be spun to look as a positive for Tubridy/Wireless. Presenters on the breakfast timeslots across Wireless in Ireland will be affected. Some will be moved to alternative slots to accommodate this, also causing a cascading effect for presenters at different timeslots which is highly likely to result in redundancies. Other cutbacks starting as early as this weekend.

If this were to happen I assume it would have to be approved by C na M who will probably buckle and allow it to happen. I would imagine that particularly listeners outside of Dublin would be very unimpressed with their local breakfast show being axed.

Wireless don't care about the listener, neither do Bauer. It's about cost effectiveness and branding. For example, in Dublin Q102 along with 98FM have listenership ratings that are embarrassing to say the least. There are savings to be made by getting what they perceive to be a 'brand' and simultaneously broadcast it across their network. They will package it as a response to poor market share results courtesy of the JNLR's and If they had their way Reynolds and Co at Wireless would network every slot. CnaM will permit this as their responsibility is not to the listener but to the sustainability and profitability of those stakeholders.

As far as Tubridy is concerned, it is a win win for him as he gets to return to Dublin permanently and breakfast radio by it's nature will permit his twenty thoughts per link type presentation uninterrupted by music.

If he returns to Dublin, will he still be a senior hurler?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,906 ✭✭✭yagan

One thing is for certain he won't expose himself to live callers, too risky.

It will be one way broadcasting all the way, only fawning messages will be read out.

    Tubridy returning!!!!!!
do I get the impression that RT is trying to weasel his way- THROUGH THE BACK DOOR/ TAKING THE TOURIST ROUTE - back onto the Irish radio/TV stage. I hope not and through keeping alive who/what he is through BOARDS and other ways What exactly went on and what might happen if he returns eg :-

    (1) When we consider the VERY salary he was on for years, his PROMISE that he would pay back the €150,000 for work not done and will not be done and , as yet, it has not been paid back and no comment from him about the status of the position

    (2) getting an increase in his salary while everybody else had to accept a significant decrease in theirs during the national economic downturn. All of us , through 2the economy ALSO had to accept salary decreases

    (3) I would assume that it would be significantly upsetting for staff to Wouk with him and the effect that this would have re the comraderie, level of cooperation , etc, required to produce programmes and especially if the company is publicially funded with TAXPAYERS MONEY

He is to Irish broadcasting what Bertie ahern is to Irish politics, festering toxicity.

What would you do without your fortnightly bath in it?

You're probably now the number 1 poster on this thread.

I myself love to have a good chuckle reading your contributions; whether they’re based in the real world or by your own admission, made up.

looking at your posting history you spend an awful lot of time in this thread, it’s bordering on the obsessive. Do you work? If so does all this time spent on boards.ie interfere with your working day?

I think bobson's interest in threads about tubbers is a sort of solidarity with shysters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,906 ✭✭✭yagan

I said a sort of, plenty of latitude there considering you yourself said you're not a fan of his.

I don't like Trump but I do agree with his view that the USA is not great.

Yes, no need. And no need for trolling.

But look what we have here.

    Tubridy Breakfast across LmFm, Q102, Fm104, Live 95, 96FM and C103?

I can see the massive cost savings.

I can see the massive social media backlash too.

Just look at Facebook when stations promote his one weekly Sunday morning show.

    Mod Note

Locking thread for now, too many ignoring last on thread warning, bans to follow. Don't start following each other around other radio threads to continue this or same will have to be done until new Mods in place. If you have an issue report it.

Just out of Easons on O’Connell street. Selection (travel) very poor. No sight/sound of the Toy/Book man from a promotional perspective which is a plus at least!

Nice to see things back to normal and thread reopened. Saw this mentioned on another thread.

Ryan Tubridy: 'Is America afraid of electing a woman?'

I know Tubs aint great at presenting, but I thought he was an intellectual and has a good knowledge of American politics. If anybody is bothered to read the article Tubs seems to think Biden is in a second term as president. Quote from Tubirdy [ Maybe Biden should’ve stepped down after his first term or earlier in his second?] Could someone please explain am I reading it wrong or is Tubs that stupid ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,922 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

I think it's the pretend game again with our Ryan.

He pretends to be a scholar of US politics. Just like he pretends to be an avid reader.

I would bet he is neither. He tries to gain enough knowledge of subjects to pass himself off as an expert, but doesn't do a very good job.

How can a person be so stupid as to write an article about the result of the American election and get it published. He thinks Biden should have stepped away earlier in his second term. Biden took office on the 20 Jan 2021 and will finish the one and only term on 20 Jan 2025.

I don't want to give that link a click but that's a pretty bad proof reading error for any outlet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

It always has been a pretend game. He’s a manufactured persona/brand; The Toyman was manufactured, The Bookman is manufactured, the whole kindness shtick is manufactured.

I posted the Biden gaffe on another thread last Sunday. It’s bad enough that he said it or thought it, but how some editor didn’t spot it before publication is equally unforgivable. The whole diary thing smacks of previous little effort on all sides at the best of times, this one was unforgivably lazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,958 ✭✭✭GSF

He needs a lot of support and editing. Where that isn’t available- newspapers don’t have sub’s anymore and commercial radio has little support bar minimum wage kids, he’s always going to get found out

Rte for all it’s faults have a lot of people who’ve been around the block a bit

Sorry Peter credit to you. Did say I saw it somewhere else, couldnt remember where. Better suited in this thread.
