Yes, was a good episode, more often than not, summing up how I feel about the path of the country, Sarah almost reading my thoughts. The reaction by posters on this site and other left wingers on social media, to his murder has been shocking to be honest.

There's a fair bit of talk on the Kirk thread about the validity of comparisons. If you're going to compare them then it's an omission to mention that one lived a long and apparently happy life, the other was brutally murdered in front of his wife and children.

I was a little bit sad over both, just on a human level, but in Kirk's case there was a lot more sadness about the fact that his murder would inevitably be used to drive a further wedge between the already divided factions in US politics. Boards.ie's days would really be numbered if we all decided to shoot those we vehemently disagree with.

the other was brutally murdered in front of his wife and children.

Mercifully that appears to be a falsehood.

You're missing my point. I'm not hysterically crying over either, a la those two eejits on that Gript podcast. Nobody should be unless they know them. That is all. That was my point. Stop trying to make it into something else.

Thanks for the correction- my statement was based on what I read here which in turn seem to be based on early BBC reports.

Kirk was neither the antichrist nor messiah some folks are trying to make him out to be. On a basic human level it would be a mercy if his wife and kids did not witness the murder.

I wasn't trying to make it into something else. I think I got your point - I fully agree that it would be bizarre to mourn the death of a particular person who I've never met - that would apply to Redford, Kirk, Princess Diana etc. I'm old enough to remember some female relatives wailing for days after Elvis left the building. I still can't get my head around it.

It's the fact that Kirk was murdered, and justifiably so according to some, that is a cause for sadness. For all his many objectionable opinions, I did see a quote attributed to him saying murder is always wrong. I wholeheartedly agree.

    Agreed.

The level to which his wife and her media team are trying to monetise the killing and sow further division, is beyond crass.

Hopefully the kids grow up better than their parents.

Whatever about the media team, I'd be inclined to give the wife a pass for the next while. It wouldn't surprise me at all though if those close to her sought to make a few $ or further some agenda or both. Some Americans seem to view decisions through a "how will this affect me financially" lens at the expense of all other criteria.

She actively supported her husbands hate mongering when he was alive and is now doubling down on it for financial gain.

I'd be inclined to give her nothing but disdain. Much like her husband did in life when tragedies occurred.
