EMAA recognised in Ireland??

Hi Guys,

I’m currently living in the Netherlands and I want to change career so, I’m thinking of becoming a personal trainer. My wife and I might be moving back to Ireland next year but not a certainty. So, can anyone out there tell me if the Dutch PT certification is valid in Ireland?

Ireland Active are the governing body for the Irish leisure industry so you could ask them.

Probably worth looking at Fitcert.eu as this is where trainers across Europe are listed so the Dutch qualifications ae probably on there, so hopefully not an issue

Interesting. I'm not really au fait with commercial gyms but I'm surprised I've never heard of Ireland Active. Have they been going long? Was there much buy-in from the industry as a whole?

Ireland Active used to be called ILAM and have been the governing body for over 20 years I'd say. Their main thing is the National Quality Standards (used to be white flag)

Thankfully, as the certs they deem necessary are typically of a terrible standard.

REPS are another group like this. Middlemen who want to make people think they're the gatekeepers to working in the industry. They told me I needed one of their recognised PT certs, despite having a bachelors and masters degree in the area.

Luckily, insurers don't care much about these wannabe regulating bodies, and that's all that really matters for working as a PT.
