Scrap eating meat and pay taxes to fix the environment, job done.

There's many reasons, mostly unreasonable or just plain idiotic, why people don't believe the the issues facing us due to pollution and environmental damage.

But one valid reason why they wouldn't believe it to be true is this type of hypocritical, corrupt and spit-in-your-face crap that are these summits.

COP is an annual eNGO trade fair. Virtue signalling politicians egos milk taxpayers sweat and labour, wealthy people use their money to acquire a patina of virtue using their tax efficient foundations to join the club, all the while keeping eNGOs funds topped up, they continue their high carbon lifestyle. COP started out as an attempt by people in the United Nations (UNFCC) to emulate the success of the Montreal protocol, (this was so successful, the ozone hole is still there, big as ever), like changing the worlds energy system is as simple as changing refrigerants, of course nobody is buying it. There are 3 countries that matter based on eNGOs science: China, USA and India. eNGOs get little funding from China & India, in fact greenpeas were banned in India. Greenpeas are a ~$400 million multinational eNGO. Friends of the Earth are another multinational eNGO, and have a local franchise operating in Ireland.

COP is where eNGOs translate their "end of the world is nigh" alarmism into "donate money". Greta has become too radical for the eNGOs of late, eNGOs had funding campaigns running off the back of her publicity in 2019, in fact she has a tax efficient foundation.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

Leo giving 25 million from Irish tax payers, what a generous fella, to other countries to tackle climate change

Could we have a more moronic media hungry government leader

This is hilarious, the "Green" Minister for the Environment is making a return trip from Dubai for the McEntee no confidence vote. That will help with the aul emissions alright. 😄

That's about 3km of the Limerick to Cork motorway.

It won't even cover the operating costs of the quango setup to administer the money.

And we had a lad on here the other day struggling to understand how these people at COP could lead by example.

Hillary Clinton said climate action must come from the 'bottom up', as she spoke at an Atlantic Council event at the Cop28 climate conference in Dubai. The former US secretary of state said she is "determined" to find "practical actions" to deal with the lethal impacts of a warming climate. "Extreme heat has to be viewed as one of the most dangerous results of the changing climate," she said, noting the impact could be especially severe on women in countries where they must work outdoors in "unbearable" conditions.

She's starting to come across as being a lobbyist for big business. I would have thought that more men work outdoors, so am unsure why she's saying that it's a big problem for women.

The moves means the Green Party leader's carbon footprint from travelling to the summit will be doubled.

However, Mr Varadkar said "of course he will offset the emissions, we have a mechanism for doing that".

More trying to pull the wool over people's eyes, offset emissions, absolute nonsense.

IF she was from a rich upper class family??

Her mother was a world renowned Opera singer and her father was an actor/producer before becoming her manager.

I remember growing up on my council estate and you couldn’t move for Opera Singers and Actors. Struggling to sleep as Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Motezuma were belted out around the estate, and then once that stopped the Shakespeare soliloquies would start up. Nightmare.

The government give 25m towards a climate fund. Last week they gave 90m to the greyhound and horse industry. Some green government.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

The children growing up today really should jail all these clowns in 20/30 years when they realise the mess they made and the opportunity they had.

Bottom line is the world only wants economic growth. To fix climate change would require serious negative growth for a decade or more. I know some green folks will argue against that but it's true.

    It ain't gonna happen

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

The Earths climate has been changing since the Earth existed. Humans cannot change it.

I've tuned out of this stuff now. It's beyond a joke when an elderly person is being priced out of heating their drafty old house in Ireland while these parasites swan around on private jets and not only do absolutely nothing to positively impact the issue but actually work towards hastening a bad outcome.

As hard as it is to believe, we're still living in "the good old days". Be glad you were lucky enough to be around to see groaning supermarket shelves, foreign holidays and relatively high social cohesion. I wouldn't want to be around in 50 years time.

Indeed I think we are coming to the end of the best days to be alive. The exploding population of the planet means a constant influx of people out of difficult situations and our kids will be losing bing at home forever and eventually grandkids will be living at home routinely as well.

Getting anything built, roads, houses, hospitals, railways etc. will just become more difficult.

Mr Varadkar pledged €25 million to a new Loss and Damage Fund for 2024 and 2025 to help poor and vulnerable countries affected by climate disasters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,542 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

What is a "climate disaster"? You mean plain old weather presumably.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,847 ✭✭✭Jizique

That won't go far and will be totally unaudited, if it is anything like the charities in Ireland around 80% of it will end in the pockets of the rulers of these countries

The Saudis UAE and Jordan for that matter their wealth is mind boggling, I've watched videos on you tube where they flaunt their wealth. Their money they can do what they like. Forget cash from an ATM it's solid 24 carat gold ingots, total truth. They hire private airline carriers to transport their falcons, and as for cars how many Zonda's+ Ferraris does one need?

Having any climate change conference in oil rich Arab countries is hypocritical, having Charles Windsor attend is an insult. Climate change leads to crops being damaged through drought/fabricated conflict/ poverty mass migration which leads to inequality while Charles owns an entire English county. He practically owns Cornwall and is an errant landlord not giving a crap about his own people. He sure as hell doesn't care about Kent or Dover.

If climate change is down to humans then there is only one solution and that's mass sterilization, the more people breed in benefit rich western countries it's sensible to plug the hole. Offer asylum seekers and illegals sterilization or they can go back to where they came from.

How cynical of you. Sure look at how all the aid we’ve sent since the 80’s has transformed Africa.
