COP28, "King" Charles, Greta, The Pope etc.

So COP28 kicks off in Dubai this week.

King Charles is giving the opening address.

Remember him? He's the lad that recently presided over possibly the most environmentally unfriendly funeral in the history of mankind. He won't be flying economy and staying in a holiday Inn either.

The pope is going, Bill Gates will be there, keeping himself on the telly.

70000 people are going. Yes, all flying over to tell each other what to do.

Greta will surely be there, no doubt to tell everybody "ye have stolen our childhood" as all of her Irish's leaving cert peers are busy booking flights to Greece next summer and saving to put even more cars on the roads.

Complete waste of time.

Charles was to be accompanied by his brother. That is until Andrew was informed Greta is now infact over 18 so he lost interest in the whole endeavour.

Climate change is a serious issue but yeah, these gatherings are pretty absurd, a whole bunch of well meaning speeches and very little action.

I wonder if Greta will bring her Palestinian flag with her to wave on stage

Not funny. If she was from a rich upper class family OK it might have been funny but she is not. She is from an ordinary family just like most of the rest of us.

She has done lots to raise awareness of Climate Change and yes more could have been done to avoid what is happening now decades ago but no one cared and now we are paying for it. It's real not fake. It will only get worse if we do not take action against it.

By the way I agree this year's COP28 is a disgrace. Channel 4 news had a piece yesterday on how the Saudis are going to poor countries in Africa and Asia saying we will sell you lots of lovely oil for a fair price. Anything to keep themselves rich as well as in there supercars and posh cars while they are pretending to be green to the rest of the World. They do not care.

(P.S. the video doesn't make fun of her btw. It is a technique called satire which is instead making fun of people relying on others like her to solve the issue...... It just happened to go over your head)

Greta is your typical novelty kid that has some new angle, gets lots of attention but when they grow a bit older it gets boring rather quickly.

It's a complete farce, you know the Saudis will be there, telling everyone how fossil fuel demand is vital to reduce climate change, in opposite world. Channel 4 did a great piece on them a couple of days ago, pushing for supersonic aviation as it uses 3x the jet fuel and promoting cheap ICE cars in Africa to increase fuel demand. They have been very frustrated with the price of oil lately, blaming short sellers and cutting quotas. Those C4 journalists better watch out, or they'll be chopped up in a foreign embassy.

They have partitioned their genuine and sincere concern for the environment into a small area of their brain. They leave it there - to be pulled out whenever required - and get on with the rest of their their lives. When they book their Ryanair flight to the sun, they tick the box that enables them, for a small extra charge, to offset their carbon footprint by planting a couple of trees in somewhere like Zimbabwe.

So they can sleep easy at night knowing that the likes of Nessa Hourigan and Hazel Chu are looking after their interests.

I don't think anyone is expecting much from this years COP for a number of reasons

The CEO of one of the worlds largest fossil fuel companies is the head of it
Over 1,000 lobbyists from the fossil fuel industry will be attending, the largest delegation by far
OPEC have an entire section dedicated to them
The UAE and Saudi's are using it as a forum to sign deals for fossil fuels

I look forward to more about this sh1tshow coming out over the next few weeks
