Did they forget Armored core 6 came out this year? I probably don't see it beat Baldur's Gate 3 in most categories but some of the voice performances were excellent and the score should be up for consideration. Deserves to be there more than Spiderman 2

I'd also struggle to call it an RPG, and probably should have been in Action/Adventure over Jedi:Survivor, or maybe just Action game. I would have liked to see it get more recognition, but as much as I loved it, it was just a tough year for it to get into the GOTY category.

I mean whatever about return to castle terfenstein but it seemed like a typical open world game and it's been a very strong year for games. I mean Armored core 6 and Pikmin 4 aren't even considered and they are far more interesting and better games than Hogwarts.

The only one I’m surprised about being in there is Spider-Man 2. I loved it but it’s short and very similar in structure to the previous games.

BG3 will be the deserved winner anyway.

Regarding Hogwarts, that was a game that people expected to be rubbish that ended up being kind of good, but it was pretty much immediately forgotten about by March. When you look at the games that have come out this year it’s no surprise at all that it’s not there.

I didn't play Hogwarts Legacy, but even looking at it from an outsider, it was a decent hit at launch but then fell sharply off a cliff. It seems like most people enjoyed it but it didn't seem to do anything overly interesting or unique that might put it ahead of what has been a very strong year for games.

The same could possibly be said for Jedi Survivor, but I'd say that as a sequel it at least improved on a pretty solid base and, technical issues aside, was a terrific game with a great combat system and decent story with great performances.

If people enjoyed HL, great. But sales figures a) don't matter and b) were boosted by it being a Harry Potter game. Outside of sales figures and no. of people streaming at launch etc, the game didn't seem to have any legs and it's been overshadowed by an exceptionally strong year for games.

HL was a great game, even more so if you're a fan of the world. But it went on too long, and was stuck between this happy go lucky school sim and a much darker overall story, and couldn't fully commit to either side. Not having Quidditch probably hurt it a bit, as that could have given it more legs. But people wanted a multiplayer HP world, and Portkey were straight up about it only ever being a single player game. I've played and forgotten it as much as I have most single player games. Enjoyed it more than Armored Core 6...

Not even whispered, but my GOTY is Immortals of Aveum. It's the most fun I've had in a game this year, and that makes it the winner in my book. I haven't played Alan Wake 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Mario Wonder, Zelda or RE4 Remake though.

Dozed off for a while there, and woke up to find that the rumours of the Blade game by Arkane Lyon are true. It feels like it would be a great match if it wasn't for the fact that Arkane (granted, a different branch) had literally just made a vampire slaying game that was pretty terrible.

Edit: It's going to be third person. A departure for Arkane, but makes sense I think.

I do grimace a bit when talented developers get caught up developing Marvel projects, but Blade and Arkane seems like a good mix if executed well… even given the other Arkane studio’s recent, less than inspiring vampire game 😅
