Great that the work is interesting - albeit stressful, which I guess is to be expected with DCEDIY and everything happening atm!

How do you find the Department overall? Nice place to work? Do you like the offices?

  • Registered Users Posts: 322 ✭✭pygmaliondreams

not the op there obviously but miesian plaza is a very nice office with great amenities, the only complaint i'd have on the building is the fact that it's not enough space, it's very awkward to have to figure out what days you will be able to get a seat whereas in my last department i had the same desk everyday.

There is somewhat less work than what I'm used to in any job and that's a bit frustrating because I feel like I should be busier!

I have set office days and a set desk for the days I am in the office. Also based in Miesian Plaza.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 APComms123

Oh interesting that they are doing set days and set desks for some people and not for others. Sounds like overall most people are happy with working in the department though which is good to hear.

I love the Dept. Everyone is very nice in every section.

Like others have said, lack of desks is a nuisance, set office days are quite nice but changeable in some situations.

Some sections are quite busy, some are quiet. It all depends on where you're placed.

Great amenities, and induction seems to be better than in other CS departments

  • Registered Users Posts: 703 ✭✭✭PmMeUrDogs

It'll likely pick up for you soon depending on where you're working. I've heard a few newer people say that, and I said it myself but now I'm inundated!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 APComms123

Very interesting! What are the differences in amenities/induction between DCEDIY and other departments? Funny how these things can vary so wildly depending where you end up in CS

Did anybody hear anything in regards to results today??

  • Registered Users Posts: 703 ✭✭✭PmMeUrDogs

During induction, everyone received laptops, backpacks, reusable cups, laptop stands, etc. I'm told by people who transferred into the dept that it's unheard of.

Facilities - on-site gym, canteen with cooked food, coffee shop. Again, told the gym part is unheard of.

The results are just out - Good luck everyone - fingers crossed

Good luck to everyone getting results.

@nooneworker How'd you get on with yours?

hello @PmMeUrDogs & @pygmaliondreams, I received an email that I had passed the interview. I would like to thank you both for all your support on this thread & keeping us informed of each step.I REALLY appreciated it.

I should be happier but my manager is on leave at the moment. They are back tomorrow & I really don’t think they are going to take it very well. At the same time, they know I have to leave for financial reasons. I am barely surviving as a CO but I also feel like I am abandoning them as we have developed a very close working relationship. May I ask you both how long did it take from sending over your documents to Staffline & DCEDIY for the pre employment checks to getting a start date?

I am just wondering would it be an absolutely crazy idea to ask DCEDIY HR if they could delay my start date to the next new entrant group in May so I could train my replacement in? I just really hate leaving people in the lurch.I am under no illusion that I am indispensable-nobody is-but I know my manager is under pressure already & my leaving will really add to it.

Apologies for the long post. I am just really worried about telling them tomorrow.

    Firstly, massive congratulations!

From passing the interview to actually starting in the department was about 6 weeks for me. Knock off a week or so for yourself as you're already garda vetted, so likely about a month - which lines up with them saying around mid march.

I personally think you'd be mad to try to delay til may! I completely understand wanting to be helpful and train your replacement - my own boss wasn't happy I left when I did, for similar reasons - but why would you resign yourself to two months of less money when you're already struggling?

COs generally won't need a massive amount of training, especially if someone comes into your Dept on mobility. But ultimately your manager is paid their wages to be the one to handle those issues, not you.

Sounds like you've made them aware you were on the panel, so they already know. They'll manage!

I’ve seen talk up thread about a new competition, has anyone heard when it’s due to open?

Congratulations to all who passed the recent interviews, I started myself a few weeks ago and wish I’d worried less about the move as it’s a great department and I’m very impressed so far.

Has anyone any information on the international protection division? Its come into my inbox as a secondment offer and seems like something I'd be interested in but would love some more information about the role from someone working in the department. Mainly what the role in the resourcing involves, it mentions travelling etc but not where too..

Can anyone advise as to provision of car parking at Miesian Plaza?

I'd be commuting in and public transport is not an option.

I don't drive to work so maybe someone else using it can give more info but my understanding of it is basically that it isn't a guarantee at all it is done through a booking app each day and you either get a spot or you don't.

You book a space with an app - however you're only allocated 4 bookings per month.

You can book "free" (ie not use your 4 bookings) after 6pm each evening but obviously no guarantee spaces will be free

Would anyone have an email address or contact number for Staffline?

Last email I received from them said interview dates in April should be communicated to candidates a week or two after February 20th. Alas, nada to date and am naturally anxious to know.

    PM'ed you there.

I thought I posted here already but it must have glitched.

I was unsuccessful. A bit disappointed as it looks a smashing place to work. I failed on the Specialist Knowledge etc., competency. Just hit the crossbar on it. So close but I knew the moment I left the interview room I wasn't gonna make it. The follow up questions let me down I reckon. I was expecting them and was prepared but just fluffed it. It was my first in-person interview in a very long time and the lack of eye contact from the interviewers threw me. I'm not using that as an excuse but something I wasn't expecting. Also, not being able to get into the building for a few minutes due to a protest outside made things interesting :-)

This is a great thread, thanks for the updates and best of luck to everyone going forward. I've the EO Open interview in the next couple of months I reckon so I'll use this interview for experience and a learning curve.

  • Registered Users Posts: 96 ✭✭Lemon Davis lll

Sorry to hear that Raheny Red. Interesting (and useful going forward) that you were immediately able to gauge why things went a little awry. As you say, the open competition gives you another shot at it and you'll be ready for whatever the panel throw at you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 703 ✭✭✭PmMeUrDogs

Ah I'm so sorry to hear that.

It's really good though that you recognise exactly where you went wrong and how, so I'm sure you'll have no issues in the open comp interview. Very best of luck for it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 322 ✭✭pygmaliondreams

Best of luck on the open comp, that'll only be an online interview and you can take the feedback from the interview as well as your own experience into account so

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,394 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

    Did you apply for this?

my partner went for the HEO opportunity as she’s desperate to get out of her department and still a bit off mobility but hasn’t heard anything other than confirmation that the application was received.

Hi all, I recently started CO role in a different department, 2 weeks ago to be exact and I just got an invitation for EO role in DCEDIY and not sure how to go about it, is it going to look bad me moving departments so quick while I’m undergoing training or would it be silly for me not to go for it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 322 ✭✭pygmaliondreams

Take the promotion, nobody is going to judge you for it unless they're an arse I was still on probation when I got promoted and I was grand.

It's a decent chunk of change more a year, it might be a different story if you were to immediately move to another department but still be a CO.

You'd be mad not to go for it, it's quite a jump in pay compared to a new CO
