Go back further in history and the jews were pushed off of this land by the Arabs. Pro Arabs think history only goes back as far as 1948.

They should of have the Jews a great big piece of Germany.

This article should offer some background to the conflict.

IMO: To my mind, seeing this as good guys versus bad guys is much too simplistic.

It's a power and resource struggle. A situation set up for conflict from the start and exploited by bigger players.

Individuals may be good or bad but everyone is manipulated/constrained/shaped by where they were born.

While neither side can achieve an overall victory, this conflict will continue and continue.

The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress. Joseph Joubert

The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It's to promote critical thinking.

From what point in history should borders be drawn? Is the 1300 years of more recent Muslim settlement less important than Jewish settlements before that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,699 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

This conflict realistically could draw in the neighbouring Muslim countries. Tens of thousands took to the streets in Jordan alone to show support for Palestine. There is a YouTuber that goes round the world to different countries and he asks the people he meets, what country do they hate the most. Most say they hate no one, but in all the Muslim countries they say they hate Israel.

You'd like to think long-term that Palestine could break away into a separate state, but a quick look at the geography tells it own story. Gaza is tiny and just 55Km of border with Israel. It's also a long way from the West Bank, about 35Km at nearest. Even if the people of Gaza moved to the West Bank, Israel would never withdraw from there as part of a long-term peaceful solution. Too many religious sites to dispute.

By the way, great to see people on here take a somewhat informed and unbiased view. Frightening how the western politicians fall into line like obedient puppies.

Think Israel made a decision in 01 to withdraw from all talks with all Palestinians, also it was reported that they were going to reduce the size of the West bank, since then it could be called the Salami Bank.

New settlements carved into it all the time. There is never going to be a two state solution, most Palestinians can't be acclimated into Israel because they believe it should not exist in any form.

Me thinks climate change might be the ruler there yet again, as has in the past.

It's alright. As long as FFG don't offer the hole lot free one way trips too knock airport. I'm not joking

Well if you took all your neighbours land and left him and his family trapped inside a fenced-in half acre plot for 75 years, you probably shouldn't be too surprised if there is some sort of retaliation coming back through a hole in the fence.

There are inter-generational feuds in this country over who owns half a ditch or not.

I'm not racist but I may be culturist.

We offered a home to Ukrainian refugees and rightly so. We did our part. Could have offered military support. But that's another story.

What the liberals from the river to the sea will have us offering to take the entire population of Gaza as refugees.

Not one Arab Muslim country has offered to take the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip as refugees. Not one. Egypt next door says no. For all the talk of the religion of peace and goodwill and protests on the streets about Israel when the discussion is about taking refugees. It's a big no.

Guess where the Arab countries will be looking to take them in as refugees.

And further back Putin's government was using as a weapon against Europe.

For the landmases of the Arab countries and add on Russia too there's plenty of room for accommodation.

What's your view on the West Bank. Should they moved as well. Or do you think everyone is living together happily there in a fair and just society.

    In a word yes!

A crash course on history of PALESTINIAN STATE:

    1. Before Israel, there was a British mandate, not a Palestinian state

    2. Before the British Mandate, there was the Ottoman Empire, not a Palestinian state.

    3. Before the Ottoman Empire, there was the Islamic state of the Mamluks of Egypt, not a Palestinian state.

    4. Before the Islamic state of the Mamluks of Egypt, there was the Ayubid Arab-Kurdish Empire, not a Palestinian state.

    5. Before the Ayubid Empire, there was the Frankish and Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem, not a Palestinian state.

    6. Before the Kingdom of Jerusalem, there was the Umayyad and Fatimid empires, not a Palestinian state.

    7. Before the Umayyad and Fatimid empires, there was the Byzantine empire, not a Palestinian state.

    8. Before the Byzantine Empire, there were the Sassanids, not a Palestinian state.

    9. Before the Sassanid Empire, there was the Byzantine Empire, not a Palestinian state.

    10. Before the Byzantine Empire, there was the Roman Empire, not a Palestinian state.

    11. Before the Roman Empire, there was the Hasmonean state, not a Palestinian state.

    12. Before the Hasmonean state, there was the Seleucid, not a Palestinian state.

    13. Before the Seleucid empire, there was the empire of Alexander the Great, not a Palestinian state.

    14. Before the empire of Alexander the Great, there was the Persian empire, not a Palestinian state.

    15. Before the Persian Empire, there was the Babylonian Empire, not a Palestinian state.

    16. Before the Babylonian Empire, there were the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, not a Palestinian state.

    17. Before the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, there was the Kingdom of Israel, not a Palestinian state.

    18. Before the kingdom of Israel, there was the theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel, not a Palestinian state.

    19. Before the theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel, there was an agglomeration of independent Canaanite city-kingdoms, not a Palestinian state.

    20. Actually, in this piece of land there has been everything, EXCEPT A PALESTINIAN STATE !!!!!!

If they don't cross the border and start murdering every being they come across then fine.

Israel should also leave them be as long as they don't threaten Israeli lives.

Palestinians in the west bank would say the Palestinians in the gaza strip were a different breed in their hostility and viciousness.

Why it is US hand in all conflicts? Why UK breaking countries to leave them to fight amongst themselves.

Why when US OR UK face recession a new war takes place somewhere?

Hard to believe that Israel could not detect vehicles entering their territory at such large scale.

Game is much bigger and dirty. WMD never found in Iraq, but a country was destroyed. Imagine if China or India invades other countries on pretext of WMD.

Dirty mess created by greed for oil, minerals at the expense of countries who should own it. Africa is poor not because they are uneducated. They are poor because they are provided weapons to fight amongst themselves. They are exploited fot cheap mineral.

How could west starved of key minerals and Oil is advanced while others are poor. Something must be not right.

Most born here, enjoying pubs and EU holidays and watching BBC/CNN won't appreciate.

Eventually it is innocent who suffer either side. Rich control the governments and agendas.

Didn't Putin make that exact argument about Ukraine. It was dismissed as rubbish.

Israelis have no right to take over land illegally just because people of the same religion were living there hundreds of years ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,563 ✭✭✭White Clover

Russia when in the Soviet Union has done the same all over the south Caucuses. Look at what has just happened between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was done to keep these countries fighting and to prevent them from becoming prosperous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭Tonynewholland

You don't seem to be aware of what's going on in the West Bank even in recent months. Israel could easily have a border between them and Gaza or the West Bank like the Korean peninsula but it wouldn't suit their agenda.

Families leaving Gaza city today on routes approved by Israel were blown to pieces how is this any worse or better than what Hamas has done. It's all murder. Having a peace festival within view of the Gaza border and leaving that border unmanned is all hard to believe in that environment of hate on both sides.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,120 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

What do you think is going to happen in the Gaza Strip in the coming months?

There's been a switch flicked. But what do you believe will be the outcome?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭Tonynewholland

Israel will go in and shoot and bomb everything that moves. Rip up services and level buildings just for fun. Until there is enough pressure from around the world to stop them. They call it cutting the lawn,a chore that they have to do every couple of years. To put Gaza back to the dark ages and give them no hope for a future.

They know that the chance of their hostages getting out alive after this are almost non existent. They have started to harass journalists now to keep them away but knew when to use them only a few days earlier.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,391 ✭✭✭Rosahane

The Muslims that were living there before the 1920's were mainly Arab Bedouin. They are still living in Israel and are members of the police, defence forces, judiciary and politicians. The majority of those in Gaza and the West Bank are settlers from Egypt and Jordan brought in by the Mufti of Jerusalem (he that was a strong supporter of Hitler and the Holocaust) to counteract the impact of jews buying land which they did in numbers especially after WW1.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,107 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

Arab Bedouins? Why were they, as influential members of the police, defence forces, judicatory and politicians: firstly in need of humanitarian aid from Ireland, and secondly, destroying that aid on themselves?

Your ramblings have no relevance to your support of the presently ongoing genocide by Israel.

Official Israeli doctrine allows their soldiers to deliberately kill their people being held as hostages by others. i.e. if they think that a hostage is being held in a specific building, they can just immediately flatten it so that they don't have to deal with it any more. They claim that this doctrine has been replaced, but do not say what the new one is.

Israel will go in, kill tens of thousands of civilians, hope to push the rest out as refugees into other countries. If they don't get a complete clearance, they will establish a "buffer zone", wait a few years and settle that "buffer zone". Rinse and repeat.

One of the issues in the Lebanese civil war was the influx of Palestinians escaping from Israel in 1948 & 1967 (according to Wikipedia) or fled from Israeli actions. It unsettled a delicate balance between Christians and Muslims...hence civil war and essential destruction of that country. Think it caused huge problems in Jordan also.

I strangely agree with Mehole...2 wrongs don't make a right.

The Palestinians have been kicked around by the Israelis since the foundation of the Israeli state, so I hope they make a stand and stay, and resist being fxxxed out now, otherwise they shall have nowhere to run to , or shall be running forever. Just look at the amount of their original land which they are left with - all because they have never been capable of resisting.

Interesting that some posters whom I would agree with on Ukraine, but don't agree with on this.

The Israelis dishonour their own history as an oppressed race in their treatment of the Palestinians.

After world war 2. The allies put a plan together so Jews in Europe and anywhere around the world could have one country they could call home.

In every European country and Russia, Jews were pogromed against. It happened in Ireland here in Limerick. In the European countries and Russia they were murdered for being Jewish. Entire families were murdered for being Jewish. This was a genocide many times in history against Jewish people.

They got this one country that was in their history as the birthplace of David. Where they settled after escaping from the Egyptians where they were slaves. It's not a very big country mind but it was theirs. How many Muslim countries and how many Christian countries but this was theirs. This was their place to practise their religion without persecution from Christian or Muslim. Except the problem was there was Christian and Muslim in this land and they resented these new settlers who were told this is now a Jewish country for Jewish people.

What happened? Civil war. And this is still a civil war. The Muslim is told it's fine to kill the Jew. The jew wants them out of their country.

I'd have complete sympathy for Israelis. The problem is what never happened like at the formation of Pakistan and India. The separation of the religions in separate countries.

Israelis are using their military hardware and the Muslim are using their military training in the Russian mercenary groups and Iran with weapons from such.

If any western country was required to go into Gaza after militants. You can be sure they'd go with artillery first and infantry second.

Would they behave as forcibly as Israel maybe not.

But you'd know in the back of your mind they want the Muslims in the Gaza Strip out of there and in their eyes a repeat of the breakout on Vladimir Putin's birthday where 1000 men women children babies of Israel were deliberately murdered.

  • Registered Users Posts: 850 ✭✭✭gk5000

Not exactly. Rightly or wrongly they were given a certain amount of what is nor Israel, but they have took much more - contrary to many UN resolutions.

Israel have never looks to resolve this without anything other than extreme force - bolstered by their military ability.

You can't tell the population of Dublin to f off to Wicklow, much as your would like. It's not right.

An Israeli life is not worth more than a Palestinian life - much as they believe otherwise, and maybe some here do also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭Tonynewholland

Millions of people around the world would disagree with you and came out today to protest. More will come out tomorrow after seeing the way people following Israeli advice were blown up.

Latest videos of evacuation routes been bombed and mass casualties leave a lot to be desired in all fairness maybe its Hamas doing it, to make the isrealis look bad our it's actually the isrealis, f**k knows

I always think though if the people protesting, were at the concert in Israel on Oct 7 that Hamas would have killed them too.

It's around and around the wheel goes round.

And it could be too eyes in the sky identifying militants in the traffic or routes and clicking the mouse to take them out.

To Palestinian sources it's randomly attacking evacuation routes.

    Who knows either way.
