A little bit earlier than last year but the Temporary Clerical Officer competition for 2024 has just been advertised on https://www.publicjobs.ie/en/index.php?option=com_jobsearch&view=jobdetails&Itemid=263&cid=180072&campaignId=23439603 with a closing date of 19th October 2023

Strange but it doesn’t as the question if one is available for a position at anytime during the year or April - September only

Edit: It wasn’t on 2023 application at this stage either

I would say yes, your currently a civil servant irrelevant of being Temporary or Permanent.

Got the assessment links as well. Looking at the thread for CO 2023, seems same principles were applied.

This thread doesn't seem to be overly active, is the interest that low?

With it being temporary panel, does anyone know are there any chances of the extension of contract or is it a case where a person should apply again for CO roles when they get advertised and their contract is about to expire?

First time applying, not sure how it works.

Apply for all competitions until you secure a permanent position

Is there a set contract length with these temporary positions? As in, could one position be 3 months and another 6 months?

I was offered a temporary contract about 6 years ago in Dept of Education. It was a maternity cover but the initial contract was for only 8 weeks but I would definitely have got 6 months minimum, I think the 8 weeks was more of a probation type thing. I had initially been rang by Dept of Social Protection with a job offer in Mullingar and turned it down as it was too much of a commute for me. I thought I would be taken off the panel but you are allowed decline if the commuting distance is over a certain limit. I ended up re-negotiating my hours with the job I was in at the time (in private sector) and turned down the Dept of Education job. I would say definitely accept a contract as anyone I know that has gone in as a temp to civil service has always ended up permanent. They will extend your contract if you are any way decent worker and then apply for perm when the perm CO campaign comes up.

May I inquire about a matter regarding my application for the TCO programme for the year 2024? Having completed the initial assessment phase, I am currently awaiting the scheduling of my interview. Regrettably, my mobile phone screen has been damaged, rendering me unable to answer calls. I observed that I had received two calls from an unrecognised number. Could these calls possibly be related to a telephonic interview? Or is it customary for the interview details to be communicated via email or SMS?

For the Temporary Clerical Officer I got into the 60s in the OOM for Clare. Score in the assessment seems decent but I assume that in the 60s means I'd be waiting a long, long time to hear back? Just missed out on Category A by a few points which is frustrating.

From what I've read it's hard to tell.

Looking at last years forum they were in the 60's for Meath by January when calling for interviews so hopefully it won't be too long!

Got my result just an hour ago - 89 OOM for Cork.

Assume the waiting times will be on the longer side, is there anyone who could offer some ideas for the approx wait times for the interview?

I doubt it. I got 70 on Westmeath panel on 2017 and got called for interview within about 8 weeks.

I got 115 on Westmeath panel in 2019 and was still called for interview but took about 4 months, either way you definitely will be called quick enough.

I applied for this ages ago and got told today I was no 116 for Galway in order of merit. Guess that’s me out of the running then for the interview stage

It is literally taking into account your answers to the assessments (A&B) and that's it. When you are called for interview you are asked to bring a completed application form and that will have your work experience on it. The interview for the TCO is only about 10/15 minutes max and very stragitforward.

I was 87 in 2020 , not 100% about when I got my interview but I was placed in July, and that was during covid times so I think it was slower. The competition ran around the same time that year too.

Hi , yeah no bother at all.

They asked me to give examples of a time I went above and beyond for a customer,

A time where I worked well as part of a team,

And examples of a time I helped improve performance, or how competent I was using the Microsoft packages day to day.

How I handle being moved around a lot in previous roles.

Honestly though they are so nice and really not wanting to catch people out.
