Of course he could be not guilty, but there seems to be credible charges. What’s hilarious is that people like him spout nonsense about how other people are out to get you and others (not like him) accuse people of being pedos, groomers, out to control/kill you. Then when someone with evidence comes along, shock horror it’s a conspiracy.

Both Schofield and Huw Edwards were exposed by the same mainstream media and the two of them would have been perceived as "woke" and "leftie liberal luvvies", so it's a bit rich of the Brand fanboys to claim this is the establishment being out to get him.

I think it was after the Andrew Sachs incident that was the catalyst from him being off telly.

I seem to remember him showing up on C4 on some end of year quiz every now and then but he has been very prominent on youtube with his Trews (True news) for nearly a decade before he "turned" from being somewhat left to (apparently) a right wing monster a few years ago.

I remember hearing rumours of inappropriate sexual activity since back in the early days of his career.

Don't think I've ever seen a thread as bad as this for posters shoving their own agendas into things where they aren't relevant and dragging everyone/thing that they don't like into a topic that they only have a vague relation to. The actual substance of the thread has taken a back seat a long time ago.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

I do remember very few people supporting Brand/Ross although there were a few comments like “he’s a comedian can he not take a joke”.

There was an absolute ground swell of support for Ross, it's the main reason he kept his job.

    Brand resigned.

Funnily enough as Brand said himself not that long ago, you get away with a hell of a lot when the money keeps rolling in. Ratings and talent trumps morals! As Patrick Kielty said, don't mention barter accounts.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Indeed it's this whole anti-intellectual circus fueled by fringe types on social media. So when Brand went full conspiracy grift, he became a "part" of it, which is why we see a circling of the wagons by it's members.

Back to Brand, of the 3 other people with allegations against him (summarised), I'd say the first one looks the most serious

    "

    • One woman alleges that Brand raped her without a condom against a wall in his Los Angeles home. She says Brand tried to stop her leaving until she told him she was going to the bathroom. She was treated at a rape crisis centre on the same day, which the Times says it has confirmed via medical records
    • A second claims that Brand sexually assaulted her while she worked with him in Los Angeles. She alleges she repeatedly told Brand to get off her, and when he eventually relented he "flipped" and was "super angry". She says he threatened to take legal action if she told anyone else about her allegation
    • The third woman has alleged being sexually assaulted by Brand in the UK and him being physically and emotionally abusive towards her

    "

    Good point.

Harvey Weinstein was a donor to the Democratic Party. He donated the guts of $1.4m in political contributions to them since 1992.

I'm guessing those same commenters are likely leaping to the defence of the likes of Andrew Tate...

Surely in reference to the posters who have declared it a political hit job and randomly bringing up Hunter Biden? Otherwise there are plenty discussing the allegations...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭Become Death

Ah now, I brought up Hunter Biden as an example of how silly references to "right wing" and "racism" were by posters bringing in this kind of bullshit into a thread about sexual assault allegations..

Please don't misrepresent my reasoning for doing it.

    I was very clear.

Next week there is an apparently sold out event (so the organisers claim, so take with a pinch of salt) at the Arklow Bay Hotel by an Australian "wellness guru" named Barbara O'Neill who is anti-chemotherapy and claims cancer is a fungus which can be cured by taking bicarbonate of soda. Tickets are 25 euro.

You'd wonder about some people, you really would. I very much hope that vulnerable and desperate people suffering from cancer are not among those taken in by such a charlatan.

The evolution, diversification, overlap and blurring between all these different conspiracy-credulous "movements" is absolutely dizzying. It nearly reminds me of the evolution of music into different genres, sub-genres and fusions, or cooking. A pinch of Musk, a dollop of "natural medicine", a teaspoon of libertarianism, a tablespoon of YouTube, a pint of anger. Stir a little and you have a cocktail to rot the brain.

Strazdas pointed out that the conspiracy theory that the mainstream is 'out to get' Brand is a weak one - because the mainstream also goes after centre-left and liberal people for their sexual misdeeds.

I agree with that and am reminding people that Harvey Weinstein - the original #metoo baddie - was a major and prominent millionaire donor to the Democratic Party of America.

So it would seem these things are not motivated by partisanism as such.

I'd say the first one looks the most serious

Was there an inference that there was a third party present?

I wonder is that what he meant when he mentioned witnesses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,778 ✭✭✭Hangdogroad

He moved to Hollywood after Sachsgate and was in several movies, Get Him To The Greek, the remake of Arthur and a few more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭Become Death

God you are right. My timeline is skewed. Sure there was the wqhole Katy Perry marriage after too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,970 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

He mentioned witnesses, but hasn't given any details/evidence on it, nor has his lawyer from what I'm reading

Medical records have been provided that this woman was treated at a rape center afterwards.

Not good that Katy Perry hasnt come out to support Brand. Even Johnny Depp who left his Ex for a younger woman supported him against the allegations against him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,970 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

Musk, Tate, Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones now backing Brand. Classy character witnesses there.

The BBC trying to get out of Ross’ six million a year contract might have had a little role to play also - Ross in fairness also apologised

Ok, for the purpose of fairness I’m assuming you are putting the example of the other side of the spectrum on your next post.

    More her claim.

A woman alleges that Brand raped her against a wall at his Los Angeles home in July 2012 after she refused to join him in sexual activity with “a friend” of Brand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,970 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

One of the top posts from Brand's subreddit

I regrettably bought into his 'enlightenment' bullshit circa 2019, however his manipulative grift has become evermore apparent in recent years as he's gravitated deep into the rancid heartlands of pseudo-intellectual conspiracy-pedaling conservative ass-kissing country; truth be told he has always been an attention craving casuist with a maverick complex and a Jim Jones like aura - it's unfortunate that it took such grave allegations to shatter the rose tinted glasses for so many people.

Of course he has appointed himself a martyr of truth, and therefore any derision or allegations made against him are to be dismissed as mere slander and attempts to silence him before he undermines the institutions blah blah blah. Disgusting but unsurprising deflection from a pathological manipulator.

The man is a masterclass on how to speak fluidly and (arguably) eloquently without actually saying anything profound or even coherent. How to sound superficially well-informed without having the first clue what the **** you're saying. Politicians take note.

He's the dumb mans smart man who allows the dumb man to feel legitimized and informed.

Despite his supposed Marxist roots, I'm not convinced that he ever cared for the plight of the proletariat, or anyone but himself for that matter, he was just a lousy limousine liberal harvesting praise and virtue points; he's addicted to the attention, as he was to sex and hard drugs, but at least when he abused drugs he was only damaging himself, now he's spreading nonsense across the world and leading credulous listeners into a jungle of bigoted conspiracy theories and hypocrisy. Sympathies for Putin a heartless warmonger and Trump a draft dodging tax evading pornstar philandering traitor and egomaniacal demagogue, really?

To any who still sympathize with him, do yourselves a favor and cast this pseudo intellectual wannabe cult leader degenerate into the scum bucket and find better figures to follow.

(Its telling that Musk, Andrew Tate and Tucker Carlson are among his vocal defenders: a conscienceless megalomaniac, a sex trafficking disgrace to the human race and a spineless pathologically deceitful bigot)

Edit even if these allegations prove false (remember there are other reasons why they might be retracted - Brand is no stranger to litigation) this should remind us that he’s a womanising slimeball who has even admitted as much in an attempt to downplay it, at the very least there’s audio confirmation he pursued women as young as 16 while he was in his early 30s. He doesn’t operate with the same level of respect and decency he demands in others.

Not good that Katy Perry hasnt come out to support Brand

I doubt there will be any support apparently they hate each other.

Wouldn't be uncommon between divorced couples TBF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

True I guess Depp's Ex was also the mother of his child so probably had more of a motivation to speak out on his behalf. I think he was only briefly married to Katy Perry anyway.

Katy has been quoted as saying that she “locked away” some information that came to her attention about Brand. around the time of the divorce and decided that it may be of use another day- something to that effect- not sure what she was referring to but I do wonder if it’s relevant now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭Become Death

Well if that is true and she had credible information about sexual assault that she has hidden, it reflects very poorly on her.

......but for the purposes of this thread several posters consider Brand himself to have 'turned right-wing'.

Brand is/was a socialist who has drifted into conspiracy stuff which now (though not in the 1960s to 1990s post-JFK assassination) are mostly associated with the right.

There are tons of conservative politicians and televangelists who have been caught up in sex scandals. There was some Republican (US) Senator who tried to solicit sex in a bathroom from a stranger a few years back. There are also (gasp!) liberals and left-wingers who have been caught up in sex scandals (SAY IT ISN'T TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) like the aforementioned Harvey Weinstein.

It doesn't hurt me to admit it. It hurts people who are trying to partisanise these scandals and use them as a demonstration that people with the 'wrong' opinions - either right-wing or just far-from-mainstream views of one kind or another - are uniquely bad. Is that honest-minded? It is transparently opportunistic in my view.

Anyway here is a specific counter-example for balance since you asked:
