Was so mild in Dublin today

Should have had shorts and t-shirt on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,154 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Yeah it was very mild in Wicklow too but the humidity is insane, had to put the heating on to take the damp out of the air despite the warmth!

Lovely morning here in Naas, blue skies, breezy 14 degrees, looks like it's going to be a smacker.

Third big aurora this month last night viewing from Skerries, sky exploded just before midnight and again around 3 am. Lots more to come with solar maximum expected in 2025.

Alot of warm air going up north into the acrtic through september usually when this happens cold air comes down from the north weeks later...so probably cold enough at times through october..still very warm air around too from ex hurricanes...so a bit of everything in october

Not sure if a smacker is a good thing but I can tell you it's not too good in Trim. Sunny spells but a cool very very breezy wind that smacks you in the face so I guess it could be described as a smacker!

    Good drying out though :-)

I'm so jelious you always capture the best views , was that visible from the naked eye as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,954 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Indeed, very brief though. 5-7 minutes that lasted at most at peak. Faint greens and purples, mainly picked up by the camera, were visible for a few hours. Did pick up again with another spike around 3am which I missed. Unbelievable how bright those pillars were to the naked eye.

Is it safe to say that outside of the glorious week at the start of the month that September has been another shitshow of a month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭acequion

Yes, that basically sums it up KSE. You were lucky to get away from a while. And having escaped a good bit of the shitshow summer I suppose I can't complain. But living in this climate is really becoming an endurance.

At the start of the month there was a bit of speculation as to whether the mean September temp would beat 2021.

It was 15.6c for Oak Park that year. It's now 15.5c up to 26th September at that station. Will drop back to 15.2c or so. 2021 still ahead there. Still 2c above normal.

I know Storm Agnes is taking the main weather stage at the moment, however it appears that continental Europe (possibly with the exception of Greece) is having a heatwave with pressure and wall-to-wall sunshine.

How depressing to read. Today another horrible day. Couldn’t get out of the car this morning with the rain. Windy and raining most of the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,954 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Provisional estimate to 26th Sep for the Irish mean temp using the ROI* stations the Met uses is 15.225C (*I don't have access to Armagh which they also use).

    September 2021 was 15.0C.

It'll be a very close run based on this. 2023 is still currently ahead but probably not for very long.

That front has dropped some amount of rain here in Castlebar and squally to. Often a yellow warning for less. Clearing from the west now
