    And im in the majority.

How do you get access to MovieBox Pro? It seems to be invite only?

It seems they add on the dodgy box charges to already secure convictions just to make a point.

The other side of it is that Skys marketing dept and advertisers are well aware of the situation so they will quietly support the dodgy market as it means more revenue with zero effort

They needed money to repay debts. And they thought that what they were doing was a victimless crime.

"Cormac McGuckin admitted a series of charges in connection with the racket between 2016 and 2020. It emerged he started the criminal enterprise while still on licence for stealing thousands of pounds from a pensioner to pay off gambling debts. Some of the £17,000 stolen from the elderly man between October 2012 and March 2013 was also used to pay for Maura McGuckin’s wedding dress and bridal accessories."

Does anyone get that problem with live tv on their stick, your watching a channel say, Channel 4 or BBC2 and you see a circle on the screen and the programme your watching re-loops and the same dialogue keeps repeating. Is there a way to fix that.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I stopped paying for Sky 14yrs ago, and went Freesat.

I do subscribe to Netflix and had a Disney+ login for a few years too.

I will never again buy a Sky sub, not a chance.

happens me a lot, more than likely server end, virtually nothing can be done about this unless you move to another server

nice to have such options, walked away from sky a very long time ago, will never go back, its really up to them to bring down their prices, which would simply end iptv, but they wont, so fair enough….

Took paypal, probably advertised his business on socials. The greedy always get caught.

I remember one guy who was caught literally had business cards for his IPTV service!

oh dont worry, im sure all other servers dont operate on the principals of greed, and do so on more ideological belief's…..

Its an illegal service, you don't go around advertising it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,124 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

they all do, in one way or another, its the only way to notify the public of their existence, this can be by simple word of mouth, which is simply a method of advertisement, google reveals a mountain of services, mostly sh1te to be fair, but its how the game works

But equally illegal streaming is not bothering them too much.

That's something that was mentioned in the podcast about the pubs that was posted here a few months ago.

strongly disagree there, broadcasters clearly need a minimum level of subscribers, if they go below such levels, their business models effectively collapse, and at the current rate of cancelations of legals towards illegals, its very likely those threshold's will occur at some stage, and possibly soon. im amazed how resilient broadcasters are though, due to the sheer number of illegal subs now, and theyre still here, but at some stage, the sh1t has to hit the fan for them!

then of course if major broadcasters start going bust, the illegals start flopping to, so….

if you like comedy or sci fi its confusing to keep up with what programs are on sky, netflix, disney ,paramount ,etc of course some people will be tempted to buy an illegal device to watch american tv shows

off topic this weeks snl sketch about oasis is the Worst comedy sketch on tv i have ever seen, the actors english accent sounds like they have a speech defect or never heard a english person speak ever .

theres plenty of sketchs on snl where the cast at least could do a basic english accent

it sounds like it was written by a 12 year old kid who is not very smart.

one brother was played by a young woman.

please do not do a sketch about oasis unless you have two actors who at least can do a generic english accent .

You dont even need a device to watch uk tv ,just use a vpn on a laptop or pc ,some laptops have hdmi out .

make sure and set the resolution to 1080p mode before you connect to the tv.

A 1080p resolution means the image has 1920 pixels horizontally by 1080 vertically (1920x1080). You can find the total pixels in the image by multiplying those two numbers (the height and width) together, meaning a 1080p image has more than 2 million pixels.

Sky Revenues were 598 million in Ireland alone last year. A completely healthy figure. They have remained steady like that for a few years now.

Not sure how anyone could equate that to a collapse.

cause its not, yes its currently extremely healthy, but the reality is, and again with the current rate of increase of illegal subs and cancelations of legals, at some point in the future, this could easily tip into…..

id love to know a breakdown of those figures, is that entirely subs or a combination of all incomes, including advertisement revenue etc?

You are just purely speculating though. I'd be speculating in suggesting that IPTV is of little worry to Sky and other broadcasters. Yes it's a minor thorn in their side but nothing more. People currently paying 80 euro a year just aren't likely to take out a package charging 1200 euro a year. But that's just me speculating.

If Sky were really concerned you be seeing a lot more media coverage directly aimed at end users. Anyone reselling the IPTV subs in Ireland or the Uk deserve everything they get. There are multiple providers based outside the EU who Sky etc can't touch. Also I doubt there is any appetite whatsoever for AGS to go after lads watching it at home. Legally I'd imagine it's something that would be really difficult to prove.

    TV, Broadband, Advertising.

Like any business, revenue figures are irrelevant unless you know what the outgoings are.

Yes I'm the same. Hundreds of ways to get cheap subs to watch any football match you want (even a thread on boards.ie about getting Prem games for a few euro a month)

Anyone paying a sub for sky and bt, has money to burn imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,124 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

yup, the reality is, both of us are speculating, as neither of us truly know the full facts, as thats highly sensitive data, but we are privy to some of it, as presented, but the reality is, the rate of cancelations truly isnt sustainable. theres potentially hundreds of millions global engaging in illegal subs now, theres clearly a crisis in broadcasting, and this isnt sustainable, so at some point….

everyone knows, including broadcasters, chasing end users is just futile, its simply too expensive to pursue, and actually impossible, as the resources required simply dont exist, so…

since this is a global problem, and its in all broadcasters interests, more and more pooling of resources to try stop iptv is gonna continue, hard to know how successful those efforts will be, due to the fact, this is bloody complicated to try stop, both technically and legally

yup, again, we re not privy to the whole story, but major broadcasters must have serious amounts of debt on their books, as creating and maintaining such complex networks is really not cheap, so that must play another part in this game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,347 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

You say that we are not privy to the details but then claim that the rate of cancellations is unsustainable.

I'm of the opinion that right now illegal IPTV is not a massive concern for broadcasters.

If it was then the most recent EPL rights sale would have been a disaster.

The broadcasters would have told the EPL that they were potentially losing x amount to illegal IPTV streaming and that they could no longer bid for rights at prices like they had done before.

That didn't happen, in the end the broadcasters ended up handing over more money in total for the rights.

Now I know that you total figure can be misleading because more games will be broadcast but it's still a larger sum in the EPLs pocket at the end of the day.

For their part the EPL tweaked the packages so they were for a longer period and there was less of them, and all Sunday games could be broadcast.

And from the broadcasters things like Now TV have made access to sports better value.

All the above will keep the illegal IPTV streaming at bay for another while.

The only countries who care about the EPL are England and Ireland. Most other countries it's free.

Commercial premises are the biggest money makers for Sky. Plenty of inspections.
