Ugly Supermarkets Destroying Our Landscape

I see Tesco has got permission for 50 new stores our landscape is being destroyed Lidl another example and so on. Personally I much rather Dunnes and Super Value they may be more expensive but worth it. These stores are ugly and are basically warehouses inside and out they are popping up all over the place. I went to Rome on holidays years ago lovely cathedrals and so on such a contrast. Such a shame we allow them in to this country.

This is from 2013, and another source says it is 4%. Either way there is over 95% of the land with nothing built on it, not even a road. Plenty of space to go round.

Regardless just because there is space to go around doesnt mean we should fill some of it with these ugly buildings because they bring in a few minimum wage jobs.

So because you prefer Dunnes or SuperValu, nobody else should have a choice? I guess architecture and design is very much an individual taste, I don’t see any major difference in the design of the various supermarkets around me anyway.

Supermarkets tend to be built in or on the edge of urban areas, and drive consumer choice and cost savings. Dunne/ Tesco and SuperValu/Centra were pretty expensive before the arrival of Aldi and Lidl to shake up the market.

In another thread you told lies, and then backed down when this was pointed out. I think you are being "economical with the truth" here as well.

Are you comparing the well-maintained tourist areas of Rome/Italy with the suburban areas of Dublin?

Because comparing the tourist areas of Dublin and Rome, there are mini stores around the city centre of both.

If you go outside that tourist area to where the majority of people actually live, you’ll find they have supermarkets the same as we do.

I think the newer Lidl stores are very pleasant to shop in.

High ceilings, timber beams and big windows letting in plenty of light.

Also they have more generous parking spaces which is handy.

I will say however that many Irish town and village centres are quite ugly with choice of developments that don't blend in with what's already there and carbuncles that people stick on their houses. Heaps of corporate plastic and vinyl over small shops, chemists etc.

It's rare to find a pretty town or village here, in Italy they are quite normal.
