Could I fail an NCT with a broken windscreen water pump

As above, dealer having difficulty in getting a replacement pump. They have already tried an after market one which would not fit. I will Im sure get one but is it a fail item ?

Yes, it's a fail.

I'd expect it to be a visual retest though (open to correction though, lest there be some field of view test in lane required), so even if you don't have it sorted, but expect that you will within a month of the test, I'd go ahead anyway and bring it back once sorted. Visual retest doesn't require booking nor a fee.

I am seeing a lot more smokey diesels now then I have for a long time.

So they might be using the same NCT centre as Wanderer .......or

Perhaps they are the special category who do not waste time on frivolous things like tax etc .😉

I wasn't sure if they checked this at the NCT. I don't ever remember

seeing my car or screen wet after the test but I just checked the NCT

website and it is a fail if it isn't working.

If your car has Xenon bulbs also non-functioning headlamp washers are a fail. My old Alfa GT tended to empty the tank when they were activated so fuse was taken out until NCT day.
