A Petry Dish, it could be said.

If it wasn't for the tattoos mind. Bad move. Bad move.

I was expecting far better to be honest.

I see Ronnie has recovered in time to compete in this week's International Championship in China.

Seems to be only UK based events when he is unwell.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭waynescales1

    Good, hope he wins it.

Big pot, 175 grand to the winner in China this week. Compared to 80 grand at the Home Nation events.

Ronnie has always favoured China over tournaments in the Europe, except for the Worlds, Masters and UK. Money is probably a big factor alright. Can you blame him?

Well he is still World No.1 as of today, and 48 next month.

So he can get away with a pick n mix approach, he knows he is good enough.

We will see how he does in Sheffield, but his 2022 win will come off at the end of the season, so unless he wins another World title he is likely to slide down a bit now. I know he will say he doesn't care but still it depends on how far down he goes, can't see him battling to stay in the 16 in 2/3 years time.

Still has this week, the UK, Scottish, Grand Prix, German, Welsh, Players, World in China again, Tour Champs all in the next 5 months. All ranking.

And whats left of the draw for this week is fairly tame. Trump, Brecel, Robbo, Wilson, Murphy, Williams etc all out. And Higgins just about to go out by the look of it and Selby too.

Theres threads on boards from 15-20 years ago saying Ronnie was finished.

Now watch him lose today at 11.30!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,459 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Ok, but included there are 2 Home Nations events and he decided not to turn up in Belfast until the weekend in the Eurosport studio.

If he continues to pull out of Home Nations events and doesn't win in Sheffield he is likely to slip down the rankings. That is all that I'm saying.

Absolutely yeah. I wonder was it a toys out of the pram thing about China?

Defo a Ronnie thing to do.

Ronnie's well outside the top 16 in the provisional end of season rankings (due to earning very few points last season) but he's still more than good enough to turn up for a few random ranking events and earn enough points to avoid dropping out of the elite. I don't think he cares much whether he's ranked 1 or 16 provided he can rock up to the Crucible, the Masters and any other tournaments that take his fancy.

He’s more than capable of winning a couple of tournaments this year and going deep in the Worlds and UK. It’s just about bothering his arse.

He looks good this week. 6 centuries. Carter next and then likely Ding. Could easily win it.

Even if he doesnt play another tournament for the rest of the season he'll still be in the top 16. Has to decline at some point though!

Jordan Brown going well. Into the semis.

Think Ronnie will win this tournament. Everything is aligned for him - China, taking it seriously, big money win, plus as the other 3 contenders for no.1 were knocked out early, this is a way to keep him no.1 and establish some distance to Trump / Brecel without going deep in low prize competitions.

Ronnies is going to lose 100,000 points in December (Grand Prix 2021), so gaining 175,000 points here likely keeps him on top through to 2024.

Carter "a good player but not a great one "

I used to wonder why Ronnie was always talking up the Chinese players

Probably knew which side his bread was buttered

😁That's an Eamonn Dunphy quote about a soccer player I forget

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,517 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Aha yes. Think it was Platini?

Carter will be kicking himself there. 2 good chances to go 5-4.

Ding on the verge of going out here.

Proper semi finals in this tournament. First to 9 over two sessions.

Shame they can't bring these longer matches back for the UK to elevate it back to its former status. And give more players the experience of multi session matches outside of Sheffield in April.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,517 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Yeah. Players are losing these first to 5 matches missing 2 or 3 shots with 1 ok ish break off across the whole match.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 20,886 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

Completely agree. The UK needs to go back to the old format. Its funny, the Grand Prix used to be the short format tournament, now it’s one of the longer ones.

I want a longer UK back.

I know the arguements for best of 11 in York. It is some sort of compromise.

Basically BBC and Eurosport need to know they have a session of snooker to show prime time on a Friday or Saturday evening. And there is some risk a semi will be one sided and 9-0 or 9-1.

Bazza Hearn also says the punter wants a conclusion to a match each session....

For one tournament they could run this risk and maybe make the first session best of 7, so that you should get at least 2 or three frames in the evening in the unlikely event a UK semi turns into a complete rout.

They were clearly happy to run that risk in China tommorow and Saturday.

So Ronnie falls from 6-6 over the two session match and it is a big chance for Ford or Anda to get a big trophy and pay packet now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,459 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

A 147 for Anda in the 10-6 victory, and both finalists are into the top 16. Anda knocks Ding out of the Champions of Champions.

    Which starts on itv4 tommorow

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 20,886 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

That’s rough on Anda that he has to fly from China and get ready for it

They made sure that any finalist on Sunday doesn't have to play in England until Wednesday.

He gets a rematch with Ronnie, first up in the group.
