Some time ago I posted a thread – link below - concerning issues around free legal aid and the spiralling crime problem in this country. The thread generated a robust debate about free legal aid and it’s place in the criminal justice system.

As the thread progressed, my comments about the law and order situation in this country were ridiculed and dismissed by a small number of posters. In the usual fashion of the wokerati they attempted to discredit my observations by trying to portray me as a right wing crank, anti-welfare, angry old man, Trumpalike etc.

One of my observations – that I am a frequent visitor to London and Paris and that open air drug dealing and anti – social behaviour is not tolerated in either of those cities - got special attention from one poster, who claimed that Paris is awash with toerags doing what toerags do, and that I must be blind not to have seen this.

Imagine my surprise, then, to see the below article, published yesterday in that well known hotbed of right wing, racist, anti-welfare and homophobic views, the Irish Times. In which the people who should know about these things - An Garda Siochana – express their concerns about violent crime in Dublin. And lo and behold! Doesn’t one of them even make a comparison with a certain well known European tourist destination.

I love the smell of vindication in the morning.

One place that you will generally always see dealing and unsavoury behavior just off O'Connell Bridge going into Westmoreland St. I've been offered every drug under the sun while walking past there and seen a few punch ups, including some disturbing footage of a gang attack in which one lad was busted up pretty badly.

I'm not sure what you think you've been vindicated about.

A rise in violent crime doesn't have a whole lot to do with FLA, or not, it has do with a whole host of societal issues, not the least of which are; Garda resources, liklihood of detection, liklihood of amassing a file sufficient for a prosecution, the instincts of Judges, the protection of suspects and convicts to the disadvantage of the victim, the lack of robust sentencing and the lack of prison places for minors and adults alike.

There is an undercurrent of hyperliberlism when it comes to incarceration, prisons and penal reform.

Where SJWs might say, 'well prison doesn't actually reform these people', I would say 'well they will spend far longer in prison for each offence and ultimately remain in prison indefinitely if they cannot comply with the law and societal norms'.

Crime is an issue, sure, but it's not a big problem in Ireland. I've travelled extensively across 5 continents and Ireland is one of the safest countries in the world.

Could it be better, sure, but then you could say that about anywhere as nowhere has zero crime

Maybe I'm lucky every day I go into the city centre and haven't been murdered. I'd advise purchasing a cloak of invisibility from Moore street...if you can make it that far.

The point the Garda makes about the concentration of hostels and clinics in the city center is a good one imo. They should be spread out much more other the problems are centralised in the city center.
