Testing out a restricted firearm

Hey folks, quick question, I see lots of recommendations here to try out a firearm before buying but how does that work with Restricted Firearms? I believe you need to be licenced on the actual firearm before you're allowed shoot it - am I correct or is there some exemption for this situation?

Correct. Section 2(6) prohibits,.or rather excludes, the use of restricted firearms in situations where no license is needed as with unrestricted firearms.

Such as shooting on a range, test firing them, possessing them, etc.

There are very few "liberties" for unrestricted firearms, but none for restricted firearms. Each person in possession of it must be licensed even on a range.

A stupid rule, or a rule designed to prevent people from trying to buy and licence a restricted firearm.... you decide, but I know what I think.

Also designed to stop the club guns being restricted firearms, like before when you could shoot CF club handguns at ranges.

Ironically this same prohibition applies in the US too if you are using a Class Three full auto or Short Barrelled Rifle or Shotgun,either modified or built from the factory unless the person owning the gun is a Class Three dealer.Which has been a problem for people wanting to do reports on different types of firearms and not being US citizens or the like. So there is a way around this too here,but if I say it openly it will be censored here no doubt.So PM me or if there is enough interest,come over to the Firearms United Network Ireland FB page and I'll explain,and its actually simple enough if you think about it too.
