To understand/guess where this might go, we need to think about what happened in the past

I'm seriously trying to get my head around how the hell we got here from a political perspective.

The 3 coalition parties do not have a mandate from the people to do what they're doing imo - A quick search of their 10 key points in each party's pre 2020 GE manifesto says nothing about immigration in general and nothing about the idea of mass invites to be sent out in multiple langues. Perhaps it's buried at the back of each manifesto - buggered if I'm reading through each one to find it

    FF - https://www.rte.ie/news/election-2020/2020/0124/1110728-key-points-from-the-ff-general-election-manifesto/

    FG -https://www.rte.ie/news/election-2020/2020/0124/1110709-key-points-from-fgs-election-manifesto/

    GP - https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/0125/1110908-greens-manifesto/

The below is just a theory

Following the 2020 GE, there were months of negotiations and this is where I think that scene was set. The Greens were in a strong position as the others panicked to keep power (especially from SF) - Govt formed by June 2020, 'Integration' brief added to O'Gorman's children dept Oct 2020 - Feb 2021 O'Gorman invites the rest of the world to join us for a fantastic time - this was just after our 'meaningful Christmas' and Covid was rampant so feck all opportunities to get here.

When things started to get back to some semblance of normality, Rodders invites are gleefully accepted and the sh!t really starts to hit the fan. This kinda goes under the radar a bit with just a few eyebrows raised. Roll on Feb 2022 and RU invades UA - We rightfully open up to UA refugees and for some unknown reason, offer them the highest welfare rates of any country - The system starts to buckle and panic sets in. Govt start to realise the severity of the omnishambles they have created. Had the war in UA not happened the asylum seeker issue would not be discussed at anywhere near the levels it has been up to recently (where govt seems to have controlled the media)

As this mess unfolded further, more and more people are asking WTF is going on? It all starts to get very messy. Then these highly paid and very intelligent selfless politicians with the help of their many, many highly paid and very intelligent advisers, decide that the best route to take is to gaslight the entire population by telling them that if they are against these policies, then they are most likely a big racist. This gaslighting goes on for months on end aided by a 99% complicit media - The penny has finally dropped now that this approach has not worked (on foot of the 3 recent polls showing the people aren't buying it) and it looks to me like the new angle is to stop talking about it completely. The only time the media will discuss it is when another protest kicks off and another spate of pearl clutching begins

My own opinion is that this policy was driven by the greens. They wanted and got the integration brief. They wanted and were allowed to try to import the rest of the world here - probably on the back of threats of collapsing the Govt if they didn't get their way. FFG were so afraid of losing power they acquiesced to their little partner in the coalition (7.5% of the Dáil) - the absolute spineless sh!ts. They thought they had a great plan where they could watch O'Gorman (in the wheelhouse laughing manically) as he steered the ship towards the iceberg knowing they could blame him, while they drank fine whiskeys and played cards below deck until one bright spark piped up, 'lads, I think there may be a flaw in our cunning plan here...'

The little green tail has been wagging the big govt dog for a good while now, not just wagging the dog but whacking its head off everything in the room in the process

Is there another page ? Referring to the 1/2..

This is a really good read I have to say . I don't agree with all of it but love your description of the government tactics ..hope you don't get offended with me but it's very entertaining and bang on about the way this crowd are working , or not as it happens .

A work of art, GZ 👍

Not bad, I would add in to the mix the insidious creep of taxpayer funded Irish NGOs who have been to the fore in silencing politicians and literally threatening them with accusations of racism and hate speech if they get on the wrong side of their arguably anti-democratic and anti-working class agendas.

    See here:

    https://nascireland.org/news/2020/no-room-hate-speech-ge2020

All the major parties and many independent candidates have endorsed the Irish Anti-Racism Network’s Anti-Racism Election Protocol and should accordingly be held to account for any violation.

It was already difficult enough to broach the subject, so pointing at someone else and saying we are not allowed discuss it for fear of 'inciting hatred' or some other cop out, has been a debate crushing tactic that has justified deeply unpopular policy behind doors.

It's just a discussion. Something more important is bound to come along.

We’re committed to spending 3 billion on looking after Ukrainians but can’t spare 500k on womens soccer according to today’s Indo not to mention health boards not having enough funds for carers

The media as a whole have been utter cowards in questioning the madness that is going on. Able bodied men entering this country with no backround checks free to do what they like while being subsidised by the Irish taxpayer.

It's all going to end in tears.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The media have obviously been briefed and influenced as they are all pushing the same narrative…the media are cowards.

next to no questioning of it.

then again, media rely on advertising, want sales, views, advertising and subscriptions…. So they are mindful too.

O Toole calling other people obnoxious little gits, the little man should look in the mirror to see exactly what an obnoxious git looks like.

When was he anything else but a horrible bitter self hating little pox of a human being?

40 years of (unfortunately) reading his shyet.

What is it in this article that people find bad?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,055 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

It's behind a paywall, be surprised if they've even read it. Just an IT columnist writing about the 'far right' is enough to get these guys foaming...

It's more about the kind of people who jump on the bandwagon of successful far-right movements. Referring to JB Priestley he says

He put his finger on something that remains all too relevant to the THREAT of the FAR RIGHT today: the way it GIVES POWER to the most OBNOXIOUS little gits.

    - People who CHEER the great leader will soon find themselves UNDER the THUMB of the neighbours and workmates they most despise in day-to-day life.

People are drawn into these crusades because they think they will gain some sense of control over their own lives.

    - They end up not taking back control, but being controlled.

    - Controlled by the very people they would ordinarily cross the street to avoid: THE LOUDMOUTHS, the swaggerers, the goons drunk on their own grandiosity.

Iceland introduced the 'Alien Policy' which strips any failed asylum seekers of any privileges, such as healthcare and housing after 30 days of their failed applications. I don't see why this can't be enacted and enforced here.

It should be. If someone receives a deportation order and does not leave the country, they are an illegal immigrant and would not be entitled to any state supports.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sunny Disposition

Legal immigration is a way bigger problem than illegal.

Too much pressure on hospitals, school places, housing. The country is too small and whenever we have a strong economy we get too many immigrants.

No one wants to touch the issue though.

No-one wants to touch the issue, because we don't truly live in a representative democracy anymore.

Our leaders are not making decisions in the best interest of the voting public. That much has become very clear in recent years. They have ulterior motives, and they have powerful paymasters who's opinion and judgement matters a great deal more than that of the average punter on the street.

Of course, it is possible to change this dynamic - and we certainly need to - but it's not going to be very easy to achieve. Certainly the short term outlook isn't particularly good. We almost have to wait for things to hit crisis level, before our elected officials are forced to appease the public to some degree. But there will be no concerted effort to make significant changes, because the motivations and objectives of our leaders are starkly different to those of the public at large. Until that gap starts to close, we're looking at some very uncomfortable years ahead.

We don't do sensible well thought out policy documents like that one because we have a useless Government who don't seem to be able to deal with anything to do with health, housing or immigration.

And the good news is the alternative which is SF will be even worse, in other words the country is fooked.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭lmao10

Calling out the far right scumbags in the country for what they are is great work.

Only the far right scumbags themselves have an issue with it, which is common sense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,028 ✭✭✭Patrick2010

There's an article in today's Sunday Times promoting the idea that Europe will just have to accept the idea that with climate change unlimited numbers will be move from Africa.

He accompanied groups over the alps and described the people smugglers as similar to those who helped the Jews escape the Nazis.

Stats on the page mention that 41% of London population were born outside the Uk

  • Registered Users Posts: 715 ✭✭✭Mac_Lad71

According to the Red C poll published in the SBP last week 75% of us are far right scumbag racists.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭lmao10

Nah it's pretty obvious who is a far right scumbag and who isn't. Great to see them having mental breakdowns crying about immigrants and long may it continue!

O Toole isnt calling out the far right for humanitarian purposes, he is doing so to prop up a system forged by this government that is rooted in bigotry and abuse. The guise of altruism being the driving force in enticing asylum seekers and refugees to Ireland has long been dropped - this is a lucrative industry creating another class in Ireland, one that will ensure a steady supply of dependents. An entire industry has now been created where people leave their families and communities under the false expectations following O Gormans marketing spiel of own door accomodation and streets lined with gold. Everyone supporting the asylum system is propping up one characterised by the bigotry of low expectations, where its deemed humane to charge approx 500 euro a night for several grown men to share rooms indefinitely in spaces the Dept of Justice would deem inhumane were it the prison system. NGOs continue to infantilise refugees, disempowering them to further milk the cash cow. The end direct provision chant has been silenced as we place refugees in refugee like situations . O Toole is no advocate of asylum seekers - he doesn't see the "far right" as a threat to refugees, he sees the "far right" as a threat to the carefully crafted human trafficking industry Ireland has created.
