Managed to get out to the coast today for a few hours, went to three different locations and every time seemed to rain after I got back in the car, managed to stay dry, felt warm in the sun, the rain jacket didn't help! Even managed to cut the grass this evening, a couple of light showers as I was mowing, had to take shelter under the trees but got it done eventually, was lucky as we got a couple of torrential showers around 19.00. Overall a big improvement in Kerry after the last couple of days.

What is the opinion on the Forecast Rain map on the Met Eireann website? Is it fairly accurate? It shows the predicted rain hour by hour.

I haven't used it much but find it hit and miss.

    Quite the year for China

China's highest-ever temperature increases by almost two degrees. As dangerously hot conditions sweep across Asia, China has provisionally recorded its highest temperature in history.

Temperatures reached 52.2C (126F) in Sanbao, Xinjiang province today - which is 1.7C (3F) higher than the previous record.

It's only been six months since China broke its record for the lowest-ever temperature (-53C or -63F).

In January the country's National Meteorological Centre confirmed the previous record of -52.3C, set in 1969, had been beaten in Mohe, northern China.

That creates a swing of more than 100C (212F).

The 5-1? Presumably if you were picking your username now that wouldn't even dawn on you to pick?!

Cork Airport will surpass the total for all of May and June tomorrow. We are already way over average for July.

I'm with you on that one, maybe not 45 degrees, but my god what we'd give for a few weeks of sun and heat to take us out of this depression. As someone already pointed out here, for those who moan when we get a few weeks of hot weather in Ireland, just remember that there are a few certainties in life, death, taxes and that it will rain in Ireland. So cherish those few weeks of sun that we get, and stop banging on about how we need rain, or that it's too hot.

Well this unsettled spell has to end at some point. An increase in Sryan's favourite drivers, AAM, along with a change in the mjo state might facilitate a change to something more settled. Let's see.

The 20C isotherm knocking on Ireland's door this day last year waiting to break records the next day with 33C. Meanwhile, tomorrow could have a scorching 17C under heavy rain.

Malin recorded a scorching high of 17.1c that day. Must be up there with the largest daily max temperature contrast across the country.

I really miss last summer, we had it so good. I wasn't expecting this summer to be as good but I was hoping we'd have a half decent July at least and instead we end up with this.

    Untitled Image

This awful weather pattern looks like it's going to take up alot of the summer if not most of it. It's been here since the final week of June and will last into August, how much of August it controls remains to be seen. This entire July is a gold star write off no getting away from that.

Great picture. Was leaving a restaurant in Greystones around that time and it was fairly biblical. Drove back to Wicklow Town and it was bone dry!

Two years ago, the July 2021 heatwave was also well underway. 17th July was especially a cracker in our parts with minimal sea breeze and unbroken sunshine in mid 20s. Take me back man!

My comment was based off my local river (Corrib) which drains the lake and is fed by Connemara mountains.

It dipped below the 95th percentile at the end of June and has been rising slowly every since. Peaked on 16th July.

    Last 5 weeks (Corrib)

    Realtime waterlevel

Dramatic increase in the Moy can he seen here. Well below median flood though.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Decent enough summer's day today in Greystones. Partly cloudy/sunny. Reached 19.2c a little earlier.

A nice day in Galway. Zero rain and the sun is out at times. Seems to be clouding up now.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Not often my general area is forecast to be the driest area. I’ll take it.

Rainfall amounts have been well above normal over the past week, with prolonged spells of rain and drizzle experienced. Accumulations were generally three to five times the norm for July. The wettest locations were Knock Airport and Mullingar, with 72.7mm recorded at both stations. This week is going to stay rather unsettled but rainfall amounts are not expected to be as high as last week. Amounts will be between two and three times the average in many areas, with forecast accumulations of 30 to 60mm. It will be driest over the northern half of the country, especially in northwest Ulster where rainfall is expected to be below normal.

    For April or October maybe😀😀

it’s actually not to bad in my area today. When I say not to bad we’ve only had a couple of light showers and the sun has come out this afternoon and it feels pleasant. It’s basically an unremarkable day but in this remarkably manky month I’ll take it.

At long last a decent day.I've been out with the kids since 9.30am, just in the door now!

It was like a military operation in the house this morning, the weather wasn't beating me😁.

We had a rain shower in playground around 11am and I thought 'Here we go again at least we have been out for a while' but thankfully that was it, so we also managed a long walk and visit to farm aswell!

I'm wrecked now, hopefully kids will go to bed at 6pm as they are so tired🤣.
