    Not sure 'a smack of a baton on the knife' is a reasonable expectation though (generally speaking, because it appears you're not speaking specifically about the situation with the elderly woman here). It reminds me of the argument that police in the US should just shoot a person in the leg to immobilize them.

    And batons absolutely can be lethal.
